Wonderful. Without your tutorials, we would have failed in our propagation of thick bougainvillea cuttings! I have been successful with 1and half inch diameter cuttings also. I use Rooting Harmon No.3. and cover it with plastic as the weather is dry here. Next time, eyeing for propagating a hunted branch with almost more than 2 inch diameter.

I covered my cutting with plastic cover as I live in desert climate. Within a week, I could see tiny leaves been produced but the top of som cutting had fungus frm the water dripping frm the cover. Then removed the cover. Now I doubt the tiny leafs are not growing or drying out? Shld I keep the cutting in ac room?
@GardeningUpbeat2 жыл бұрын
@Najla Munawer, Please don't keep in AC Room. The thing happened as cuttings got a completely new environment (once you removed the plastic). It would be better if you cover them again with a new plastic bag and expose them to natural environment once you see they are starting to grow well. Eventually, they would adopt the new environment..but at initial stage, we need to be more careful. In the meantime, you can use some fungicide (both on leaves and on soil) to prevent the fungal attack Hope that helps and wish you all the best!

Excellent ! I hv also tried many times but soon as the leaves spring out they turn out black slowly. Even if i repot, they all die. Sir, what is the reason? Please explain.
@GardeningUpbeat2 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for your feedback! >> They turn out black slowly Usually this happens because they are yet to produce better root system so that they can survive. This is why they died after repotting. Please wait for some more days and let the new growths (mainly leaves) to turn green. At the same time, wait until and unless the cuttings don't have 2-3 or more branches or at least they are around 6-8 inches longer. Direct sunlight is not recommended until and unless you don't see any active growth. Watering usually doesn't have a great impact and I have already shared this on this new video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYvZlalsm5iGacU If you like, you can check it out once [all cuttings were successful]. Hope that helps, thank you!

I hv tried so many times to grow it from roots but failed. Bcz i plant it in soil. Then i decided to plant it in sand. So i took 2 parts sand and 1 part of soil, put it in plastic bag then plant 3 or 4 stem, the stem should not be too old or too young, and in just 8 days they started growing. Everyone can grow it, just follow what i did, dont worry it is very easy.

@priyabalachandran46882 жыл бұрын
Also can you plz tell what is the difference in rooting hormone numbers 2 and 3 etc..
@GardeningUpbeat2 жыл бұрын
@Priya Balachandran, I actually haven't tried online as they are available in my place in 2 Km distance (fertilizer store). But, I have seen many with good reviews..such as, Fast Roots on Amazon (please read the reviews before buying). I buy from local fertilizer store as it's cheaper and it's only Rs. 80. Now, coming to the Numbers - No 1 is mostly used for Softwood cuttings (like the cuttings I have shown here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaeYfmmXeL56lZo) No - 2 is used for Semi-hard wood cuttings (again shown in the same video) No 3 - Used for Hardwood cuttings (again shown in the same video). But, good things is, No -2 is okay to use either for Softwood cuttings and for Hardwood cuttings. That's why, I use the No 2 in most of the times. But, if you do lots of propagation via cuttings, then you can buy Rooting Hormone powder with specific numbers. Please note - Not all brands provides the numbers. Safe to say that, almost all work the same way. The numbers are mainly targeted for Nurseries who produce lots of cuttings..Hope, that helps! Thank you :-)

Great video - thanks! I just bought a braided Bougainvillea tree and looking for another. Do you have any videos/advice how to keep it growing upward? I removed a giant bougainvillea from my property when I first bought it - it was 7' tall and wide and dangerous for my pets. I love the clean tree and if I can keep it going, it will be a great alternative for my landscaping. Have you braided any from cuttings? I also have a snow queen hibiscus that I just shaped, unfortunately I did not keep any of the larger branches I cut - so I'll watch your other video and get a few of those started!

I propagate bounganville in the month of july. After producing roots in all the cuttings. In which month I can repot it?
@GardeningUpbeat2 ай бұрын
Congrats! Once they have good root system, you can repot at any time. For example, if they have already good root system, now also you can repot. How to know - let them have at least 2 or more branches. When the branches are around 6-8 inches longer, they are safe to repot. But still, before transplanting you can try to pull out the cuttings from the sand very gently. If they are resisting means, they have already produced stronger roots. Please note that, the growths get declined from August end onewards to Feb. It happens as this is the heavy blooming period.
