The Allett is speaking to you (in a whispered low voice), “…Matt your garden must be Herbaceous borders only, you know how I feel about my front box.” It’s really a little dictator but we love them all the same! Great video!

I’ve a cylindrical mower which is now ready for a ride in a wheelbarrow! While I’m fit for my age, 70 this year, I’m probably going for a rotary this time which is lighter to handle, but I like stripes!, plus rotary mowers are a lot cheaper! I like my lawns, front and back, so I’ve a treatment company come in 4/annum to apply various treatments. Thanks for your videos, I’m now a subscriber.

Well thanks to following your advice and buying stuff through your links everything has come together, the scarifying, treatments and over seeding and top dressing have produced a great lush green lawn. And to top it off I bought a nice Atco cylinder mower which yesterday painted some nice stripes on the lawns. Cheers Matt I couldn't have done it without you mate.

Hi there, I live in Perth, Western Australia and a year ago bought the Allett Liberty 43. Used a rotary mower for 50 years, but decided to make a change to a cylinder mower. Fantastic mower and it has made a big difference to my lawn, which the rotary mower didn’t do. The only thing I’m disappointed in is that we do not have a service agent in Perth. There is only one agent in Melbourne.
@GardenLawncareGuy2 жыл бұрын
I really enjoying using my cylinder mower too when I changed from the rotary!

I wanted a new cordless lawnmower with a roller as my current one doesn't have one. Watching your videos while you were using your bosch made my mind up for me until I saw the Allett liberty 35 but it was just a bit too pricey so I got the bosch and after watching this video I'm glad I did. All my reasons for concern about the allett and all the positives of the bosch are in the video. So thanks very much for helping me with my decision and by the way the bosch cuts great and gives some pretty decent stripes 👍

Yeah its a great mower. Some people don't like it, but I personally love the portability and performance of it
@Stuvonful4 жыл бұрын
Great video. Most of the time I’m in a hurry so use a Petrol rotary, but sometimes I get out an antique Qualcast Punch EP electric cylinder. The cylinder handles the bumps better and is less likely to scalp at lower heights, but it takes at least twice as long.
@GardenLawncareGuy4 жыл бұрын
I have found the cylinder to go smoothly over my lawn too even on the bumpy bits with dips
@johnb89564 жыл бұрын
I keep saying this at the moment, but it’s really pleasing to see cylinder mowers make a come back (both here and abroad). I don’t know anyone (personally) who uses them, I think everyone associates them with the old things they had to drag around as a kid, which definitely doesn’t help. The UK is a great place for it too, great growing condition mean even if you don’t do a great job of it, the lawn can still look great. In regards to moving them, they are a bit of a pain in the ****. I’d recommend moving it on the front roller, can’t really do any damage and it saves from the cringe of rolling the perfect cylinder over concrete 😂

I've always wanted a cylinder mower. I go over the lawn twice with a rotary and it always fills half a grass box on the 2nd cut. Even at the same height setting as the first.

This video came at the right moment. I'm just sowing a new lawn in Sussex and deliberating which type of mower to get. Primarily good striping and non petrol are my focal points so maybe I'll look at the Lyberty model. Thanks.

Some good insights there. The transportation from storage could be an issue for some. I have recently purchased the smaller brother of the bosch 43li, namely the 37li when homebase where I live were selling them tool only for fifty quid! It's very similar as would be expected. Stripes the lawn up well on higher settings so overall very happy. But alas the cylinder bug has bitten and are now eyeing up the best of the British built push cylinder mowers from yesteryear.......... The ransomes ajax mk5 or ransomes certes!

Is it wrong that I think I prefer your stripes when your grass was a little longer with the Bosch ? I thought your garden looked dark and amazing.
@GardenLawncareGuy4 жыл бұрын
I did really used to like my longer grass too but I also started to really enjoy the stripes and cleaner cut from the allett. Should also bear in mind the grass needs a fert because I've been hold off till after the renno. I'm going to keep the front lawn longer and the back short I think for now

How you finding the maintenance with reel, you having to cut the grass more frequently etc to stay within the 1/3 rule compared with the higher cut of the rotary.
@GardenLawncareGuy4 жыл бұрын
No i found it find to cut at 25mm or 32mm. I was mowing weekly and in peak twice a week anyway so its been fine really. The growth has slowed right off now though so we will see. Shouldn't change too much in terms of growth though whichever one I pick

Hi, as Matt mentioned Webb do three manual mowers. I’ve got the h18 which is great and leaves nice stripes, or you have a smaller one with a front and rear roller too for smaller lawns.
@stevearchibald56274 жыл бұрын
Just a thought, but could you not remove the box, lift the bar and then do an edging pass which would allow you to get closer to the sleepers, before putting it back on and then carrying on?
@GardenLawncareGuy4 жыл бұрын
Its actually the side the machine that hits aswell Steve, that side has the drive mechanism in it which pushes the blade over a few cm from the edge profile of the machine. Nice idea though
@rn20204 жыл бұрын
The Bosch has served you well and has cut your lawn brilliantly but the Allett is something else. The difference is chalk and cheese. But of course, as in most things, you get what you pay for. The Allett is considerably more expensive compared to the Bosch.
@GardenLawncareGuy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah im not going to retire it. It will be interesting to see how we get on in the wetter months, yes the lawn won't need doing as much but also its not forgiving due to the weight after heavy rain
@vjary81423 жыл бұрын
Do you do the initial cut with the Bosch and then finish off with the Allett, from the demo you seemed to be collecting very few cuttings in the Alletts grass box. Perhaps it is also worth doing a price comparison between these two machines so people can see the range in cost between the two.
@GardenLawncareGuy3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestions, sometimes I cut with the rotary if too wet or seed heads but rarely finish off after with allet. One or the othet

The cyclinder mower gives a far better finish but then its far more expensive and so is the maintenance, including blade sharpening and engine servicing, maybe when doing the comparison,running costs could have been included. I have the corded version of the Bosch and the Windsor cylinder mower which I love but my lawn isn't really big enough for the cylinder so it hardly gets used, which is a waste

The Allett would be to much hassle for me as it's petrol I just don't like them, the finish is second to none but is it really worth it they cost a small fortune too, mine is just the basic flymo 300 so no stripes but gives a nice looking green lawn with a good finish I keep the blades sharp and have a spare swapping them every half a dozen cuts, I don't put all those chemicals or feeds on it either I just water it regular aerate it and scarify it I do keep some grass seed at home as I have a dog and her urine kills the lawn I must be doing something right as I have had several comments from people about how good my lawn looks and asking me to do there's, I initially have premier lawns to thank for that and several others like yourself for giving tips on you tube of what to do and when, for the average joe like myself a basic mower is good enough for the lawn care Pro,s who landscape for a living I fully understand the Allett is probably a must.
