This seems like the perfect tag team trio. All three are extremely mobile. You've got 2 spellcasters with a combined 3 different elements of ranged attacks (magic, fire and lightning). You've got your tank with anti-spell capabilities, and your DPS.

@@RelativelyBest They kinda are. They are all based on the "Tree Sentinel" mob, they were made to interact with other Tree sentinels and play off of eachother's attacks. I presume it was because of the "Sentinel Duo" boss. A similar weirdness can be observed with Aubinaurics, you can summon an Aubinauric Woman near a wolf and she will ride it, even if it is an enemy one. Totally unnintentional, it is only present in the game because Wolfs are programmed to let Aubinaurics ride them when they are near. Programming logic can do some weird shit when you don't account for every possibility.

I feel like the biggest problem most of the bosses had with this trio was the absurd amount of poise damage all of their attacks at once are able to inflict. The majority just got stunlocked to death.

Phase 1 vs malenia is some INSANELY good coordination from some AI they fought like it was choreographed. 9:27 Loretta draws Agro allowing the first sentinel to sneak attacks in on malenia as he rides past her, putting himself in a position where they can surround her. Loretta realizing the agro is on her steps back with a magic attack to create distance. Malenia chases her but draconic sentinel uses this an opportunity to land an EXTREMELY well timed stun, which allows Loretta to jump behind him while the the first sentinel who has been patient RUSHES in almost as if he was waiting for the stun. He lands an attack that staggers while also knocking malenia into the center of the 3 sentinels, which sets up a safe team attack 9:42 malenia smartly uses waterfowl to do aoe damage and recover health. Realizing this, the 2 least tanky sentinels jump out of the move, leaving their tank to eat the damage while also allowing malenia to only recover from ONE health pool instead of THREE, effectively cutting the amount of health she could have recovered from that move. First sentinel waits out a good portion of the move then comes back in for dps support 9:55 the 2 sentinels attack while circling which pays off as melania responds with an attack the only hits dragon sentinel and Loretta as the first sentinel is now behind her. The next attack malenia does hits the other 2 sentinels and misses Loretta because of how they circled her prior, and malenia can’t hit all 3 of them at once until that last hit. 10:04 draconic sentinel steps back to use magic, loretta then understand the assignment and after a few hits jumps back next to draconic sentinel where they combine for a team attack that was so well timed that they actually connected at the same time as the weaker sentinel does does dps 10:14 seems almost like draconic sentinel stood in the way as a decoy so loretta could ready her magic to finish the fight. Once ready draconic sentinel jumps out of the way almost to give a more clear shot. Loretta lands the first part and misses the second, which leaves her open with malenia rushing her. Draconic sentinel then comes from the side with the beautiful finisher as if they were just baiting Melania

I heavily underestimated these guys. The way they easily beat Fire Giant surprised me the most. Tehy definitely had Malenia too until she did the Scarlet Explosion in phase 2.

I doubt they would have won even without her explosion. The ability does a lot of dmg but it also makes her immobile and unable to heal for about 8 seconds while they are attacking her. Once the tree sentinel was dead, she would have started outhealing the majority of their dmg because she attacks much more aggressively in her second phase. If she had used another waterfowl dance after the phase change, she could have gotten her hp right back to full while also killing off at least 1 of them.

Man those guys were vicious. They worked very well together. Notice how they didn't remain clustered like many other multiple forces risking immediate vicinity damage. The golden one with the wing on his helmet always stayed back on entry attacking from a distance and preserving health while the other two attacked from closer. And when he wasn't doing that another one did same so they weren't all taking damage at the same time. They also kept pressure attacking relentlessly staggering the bosses in the process and kept good spread and formation. Excellent strategy by these boys.

Damn. Even Radahn didn't get a chance to use his meteor attack and Placidusax laser beam. Also when they battle Mohg and Godfrey, Draconic Tree Sentinel walk like a boss while the other 2 rush in to attack. Only Malenia defeated all of them. Mohg, Placidusax and Elden beast each killed 1 of them. The other bosses cannot kill any of the trio.

I feel like Radahn, Placidusax, and the Fire Giant didn't really get a fair demo. Their boss fights all start off with them at a significant distance, but the trio doesn't get spawned in until they're directly on top of them. That removes a pretty important part of how those three fights are supposed to open. It's especially unfortunate since the trio has got SUCH a huge edge by being mounted. Their speed for rushing down & staggering bosses is already huge, so bosses being at a distance and hitting them before they close is the only advantage most of them have, and it's a key stage of fighting against mounted cavalry. Giving Radahn a chance to attack them with his hail of spears or snipe them with his lion bow means there's a better chance that they wouldn't all have reached him at once. That makes a huge difference for him being able to maneuver and attack, rather than get instantly stunlocked. If he hit phase 2 and actually used his meteor attack, there's a good chance that fight could play out completely differently. Same for Placidusax not getting to use his opening Primal Lightning attack that damages a wide area of the field. That makes it difficult to just blindly rush in and attack him, and makes space for that fight to spread out the attackers. That gives him a different pace in when he uses his attacks and whether or not he'd have been able to land at a distance and actually fire off Placidusax's Ruin to wipe out the group. Even Alexander's summoning sign for the Fire Giant is right near the entrance to the arena, so you still have to close a significant distance to reach him at all. This is giving him more time to take advantage of his sweeping attacks and repositioning around the field to damage them before his phase 2 kicks in and he's less mobile. Hopefully this feedback just serves as some food for thought in setting up for even better future battles. There's a reason that all the boss fields start at a certain location, and while I'm sure there has to be some level of manipulation for the AI to aggro properly, there are downsides to being too aggressive with it. The rest of the fights were a super fun showcase, and it was satisfying seeing Malenia shred through them because her advantage is against overly big hitbox, clustered opponents.

You need to remember a few things: 1, these are overworld enemies fighting bosses so balancing the fight is also important, 2, Garden used to show both states (distance then close up) but hasn't done so in a while, likely because people prefer the close-up more balanced fight

Loretta was the strongest of the Carian knights, who held off the attacks of the golden host, and that was before she went to the Haligtree and created new spells and got better equipment. The Draconic Tree Sentinel and regular Tree Sentinel obviously aren't on the level of Loretta lore-wise, but given that one is the guard of Leyndell and the other is the personal guard of Maliketh, they clearly aren't pushovers.

Just ONE of the features of her fight would make for a bad boss, like her ridiculous lifesteal mechanic that, for some insane reason, lets her heal even when attacking a shield, Waterfowl being the worst attack in the game, and a second boss phase with a passive effect. For the people that defend Malenia, imagine if From took an immaculately designed boss like Orphan of Kos, gave him a second full health bar for his second phase, gave him lifesteal just like the player, and added an attack that gives you Frenzy in the second phase. Would that still be fun or enjoyable? Bosses already have unlimited stamina and MP to make up for the fact that they can't heal (and their flasks are baked into their huge health bars), why would adding a heal mechanic for the boss feel balanced? Has a passive effect like frenzy, toxic, scarlet rot, poison, deathblight, etc. EVER been enjoyable as a boss fight feature?

This is what it all boils down to. People have even removed Malenia's healing, and she was still stronger than literally every boss besides Maliketh (and often even stronger than him still). She never even needed the healing. She has 33k hp and solid resistances. That makes her a top 3 boss health wise. Only Rykard and the Fire Giant have more, one of which is a gimmick fight, the other is the biggest boss in the game. By comparison, Godfrey has no healing and 21k hp. Maliketh has no healing and 10k hp. Where the fuck did From pull the idea that she needed lifesteal on top of it all? Yet the irony is that it still isn't her most broken aspect by any means. Removing lifesteal barely nerfs her. Yet if you were to remove scarlet aeonia, waterfowl, and the clone attack, she'd get curbed by almost everyone. This basically shows that Malenia isn't a boss at all. She is 3 attacks dressed up with a lot of fodder slashes and thrusts that make it appear as though she's a boss while those 3 attacks are on cooldown. That's why they gave her that absurd healthbar and lifesteal on top of it. To keep her alive long enough to pull out those moves. I really don't understand why they overtuned her like this. Maliketh is the epilogue boss and can literally be true combo stunlocked to death in under 50 seconds on a RL1 character, no crazy build needed. I despise what From has done with balancing between their endgame bosses. All the more a shame considering Maliketh is their best designed boss along with Godfrey, Morgott, Radahn, and a few from DS3 and Bloodborne so far.

I really appreciate how well the Sentinels do against the fire giant and dragon lord. It really helps sell that the Erdtree and its followers absolutely were able to overwhelm and kill these deific monster races. The average battalion of soldiers wouldn't stand a chance against dragons and giants so it kind of feels like the demigods had to do all the heavy lifting to beat their entire race, but with sentinels and crucible knights backing them up it feels a bit more reasonable.

Seems way off, at 5:25 the Tree Sentinel takes 2400 damage and it only brings it down to half HP, when that boss is supposed to have 2800 health total.
