Very interested in your method as I have French doors too. Did you put the new hinges where the old ones were and if so how did you keep the door in position when the hinge was removed? Any problems with holes for the new hinges conflicting with where the old holes were? Anything else to watch out for?

Very good product - very helpful video. Some things might be emphasised more in video and on the helpful written instructions: 1) 90s Anglian doors generally only came with two hinges (plus a centre guide and compression fitting). Our 800mm doors have just about survived with two hinges for 20 years+. However, the 900mm door's top hinge has failed under the extra weight. As upvcspares kit comes with 3 hinges, have replaced 2 old hinges with 3 new ones. 2) 'TOP' markings are faint and were missed first time. 3) Come with 2 'packers'. Again, written instructions don't mention them. Had to find out about the fatter ones by trial and error. Otherwise, very friendly for an amateur DIY person. Thanks.

Brilliant videos, you've got a new subscriber I've not done alot of plastic and pvc work before as I'm a joiner but was stuck today when doing a pvc door changing similar hinges to in this video, will bare in mind for next time :) easy, simple and informative videos you seem to have and shall certainly be watching more :D thanks

Hi Sean, wow, very clear and informative video, however, I got confused which one is top or bottom hinge. Ideally would have liked to be shown on actual door. Also, does not mention whether you need to remove the door or can hinges be fixed, one by one without removing the UPVC door. Also, about the packers, is the thin one for Anglian? The manufacturer should place sticker on each to identify which one. I asked a locksmith whether he can place 3 hinges on an 1999 Anglian door which has two hinges to make it hold stronger as it is outward facing door and hinges got damaged due to heavy wind and he said no you can not put three hinges. One of the door repair company just quoted me £400 plus vat to replace the hinges, hinges cost £65 including kit and over £335 for labour, may be no more than 90 minutes job and no guarantee! I am better of replacing the 30 years old door for £650 plus Vat. The locksmith thinks home owners are stupid to pay such high labour charges and yes he said he will have to spend time searching for the replacement hinges which I found in few minutes on internet on your website with clear instruction video. Well done for educating the home owners and DIY guys. Keep up with good work.

you drill new holes into fresh uPVC and position the templates to do so you would not be able to elongate the holes as it would keep going into the old hole and would then strip

The Allen key at the bottom is for lifting / lowering the hinge/s however you would always need to repeat the same adjustment on all the hinges adjusted I:E if you raise the bottom hinge by 3 revolutions you need to do the same to the rest of the hinges otherwise the one/s not adjusted will still hold the door sash in the same place. As an aside this is the adjustment most used so it is quite common that someone has already jacked the door up as high as it will possibly go as these doors are well over 20 plus years old so you may find you cant raise them any higher

I couldn't get the tamper proof screws out for love nor money,burnt 2 drill bits out as they are hardened,wonder if there is a special screwdriver bit out there.

What did you do to the old screw holes??? You drilled new holes using the template but the old holes would have overlapped......confused.

Hi Sean sorry but this is going to be a labour of love to do as the fabricator has sourced and fitted those screws separately I suspect to protect the hinges from been removed from the outside ? Never thinking how do you get them off in years to come.

Do the new holes on the new hinges fit in the existing holes or do they get drilled into fresh positions, the template overlays the old hinge positions but it wasn't clear in the video if any of the holes align or if they are too close and cause an elongated hole that the screw will not fit?

just found this video... my question is would this create a gap on the door frame (lock side) as my door as got one at the moment of about 10mm??? are is it a new door that is required???

I have Anglian doors and windows fitted about the year 2000, the hinges on my doors are identical to the one in this video, does anybody know what the large Allen bolt that can be seen at the bottom of the old type hinge at 3min42s onwards is for and does? I know these old Anglian hinges have a left to right adjustment, but is that all? Or is that Allen bolt I mention at the bottom of the hinge for raising or lowering the height slightly? Thanks.

Its unlikely there will be no reinforcing as it has been a standard requirement for doors for in excess of 20 plus years. However if the door has been made without any you could perhaps fit jackleg fixings which will spread behind the upvc just like cavity fixings. not ideal but an option
