Certainly, having a camera like the Sony FX3 Cinema Line in the hands of skilled filmmakers provides a strong foundation for creating visually stunning films. The FX3 is indeed a fantastic compact cinema camera that can produce truly outstanding results for any kind of production. Naturally, pairing it with talented filmmakers contributed to the movie’s incredible visuals. It’s a great example of the right tools in skilled hands.

It was the Sony PMW EX3 that made me turn from film to the "digital darkside". I got one in 2008. Great camera. Still have it, but I was lucky enough to be able to upgrade to the Sony FX9. Even better. Now I'm actually able to use a couple Canon still lenses that I bought 35 years ago. Perhaps I'll get an FX3 as a "B" camera. The "cheap" anamorphic lens options we're spoiled with today are also great. I have the Sirui 50mm 1.6x squeeze lens. Incredible for the price.

@@kidcoma1340 The question becomes, would you have known the movie was shot using an FX-3, would you have known or even cared? What if it was shot with the FX-30 in parts? Would that blow your mind? I feel/think/guess we are at a crossroads where the small inexpensive cameras will be used more to keep cost down while maintaining quality? What is good is that our youngsters who have the movie making bug will find there are a many inexpensive cameras, like the Sony ZV-E10, available at their finger tips. These kids can overcome the bloated Hollywood image, filled with crybabies with no talent. We need new blood to create exciting movies that are not remakes, and these kids with their FX-30s, ZV-E10s, Fujis, Canons will surprise us. This movie is a testament one needs not spend money like it there is no end to make an engrossing movie.

Finally, One person who understands. First of all, he may like Sony skin tones but Sony Venice is way more superior then FX3 in color science. And 12800 ISO performance is not the reason to use a camera on 80m dollar movie. They have plenty of lights.
@tim298

@@dathofilmsThey actually didnt have that much light. Almost all scenes were shot on location with a light rig that was basically held like the boom microphone. So the scene at the beach was pretty much only lit with moonlight.

I dont understand the hype, don't get me wrong the special fx are very very good but some scenes show the drawback and limitations of using such limited capability camera as the sony fx3, actually some scene footage seems to be more like indie to me to be honest and the compression artifacts really show, he did an amazing job on using this camera in low light situations but that was it in my opinion.

Man, I've just gotta critique this. Sony looks NOTHING like Kodak film stock. Think Fujifilm instead. Sony color science is NOT great on skin tones. There is no warmth, faces look jaundiced, and you can only color correct this so far. Venice is the only thing that really addresses Sony issues with yellow and magenta, and it STILL doesn't look ANYTHING like ARRI / Kodak.

@@alexiskobalt7450 listen my dude, your whole life can go by if you are just obsessing about pixels, or "chroma blocking"...this dude even made his first film with such a camera and never looked back. It's all about making the idea a reality, with whatever means possible, be it a gimmick or not.
@alexiskobalt7450
@alexiskobalt7450 Жыл бұрын
@@deniss.6205 His first film, made guerilla-style with a Sony EX3, was completely different. He had zero budget and there were really few other options. And then he did all his VFX in his bedroom. Totally respect all that. But this time, Edwards DID have other small cam options (sigma fp, Canon C70, to name a couple) and he chose the crapiest one possible. Should I give him a pat on the back for that? No. He wasn't shooting in cave tunnels where he couldn't take a bigger camera because it would get stuck! This whole thing was done as a gimmick, not out of necessity. If he had been honest about that, I would have kept me mouth shut.
