Well this is the moment managers live for and are defined by, winning the european trophy against one of the worlds best teams currently would propel him to another stratosphere and rightly so. But on the other hand, if he loses it will just show that when it really comes down to it, Southgate is a bottler or just simply not good enough and will validate some fans criticisms that he cant do it against the really big teams. So yes some fans are fickle, but the majority are valid in their concerns about him. This is his defining moment.

I personally think that’s a bit harsh a lot of England fans are either really young and have no clue or are very forgetful he got us to our first semi final since 1966 in a World Cup and twice in a European competition and also 2 consecutive European competitions he got us to a final regardless of weather his fixtures was easy or not he deserves the credit England have not been to a final or semi final since 1966 prior to southgate however Southgate has got England to 2 in the space of 3 years am I going crazy or is this guy overachieving this just sums up the media and people in this country toxic, I never thought I would see England get to a final in my lifetime at one point I use to just hope we get to a semi final atleast which never happened btw and now that we’re getting to finals we’re criticising the guy that got us here like I said weather he wins or loses this final this guy deserves to stay as England manager and I highly doubt he would lose is job despite the media and social media critics

As far as some "pundits" are concerned, England can lose 0-5 to Spain on Sunday and these media people or ex-players will still praise Southgate as the best manager England has ever had simply because he took England to 2 consecutive Euro Finals. Southgate is already a god and can do no wrong in these people's (the FA included) eyes. Remaining trophy-less is not going to diminish his deity status. These pundits and ex-players are going to call for knighthood for him regardless of Sunday's performance and result. On the other hand, for supporters who want nothing less than an England trophy, keeping Southgate beyond this Euro will be an absolute disaster.
