I never really thought about that..but when it comes right down to it, it's actually true...sitcoms really didnt become a major staple in TV programs until the 90's, more or less. There were in general, far more popular and recognizable cartoons in the 1980's than there were sitcoms or other live-action shows.

James, the glow effect on the ghosts was an animation trick. They would cut a hole in every frame in the shape they want the glow to be, and they project a bright light behind it! The fact that it is pictures of actual light gives it that otherworldly jump-out-the-TV glow!

btw, little bit of Trivia, but Film Roman was the animation studio that would later do Simpsons, Family guy and King of the Hill. The Started doing the Garfeild cartoons and later went off to do other works, ended around 2004, like most 2d animation did poorly on cable TV and syndication. I really love the Lou Rawls music especially the "Scared cat" one.

Every year I’m more amazed how similar our childhoods were. This is just another example of something that also stuck with me as a kid, and imagery from the book is still locked to memory. I loved this as a kid and I should watch it again this year.

I can't decide whether Halloween or Christmas is my favorite holiday. But, my love for Halloween is a little different I think. I love observing Halloween. Seeing other people dress up in costumes, watching spooky movies/tv, enjoying the cooler weather, and the fun colors that come with it. I don't actually enjoy wearing costumes or going out to haunted houses myself, but I really like observing others. Anyone else love Halloween, but too lame to participate, like me? Edit: Oh, and watching Monster Madness. That's been a huge tradition of mine for over a decade. Thanks, James!

I remember being very scared of the three ghosts chasing them as a kid. I was also scared or at least disturbed by the segment in Garfield’s 9 Lives when he’s a cat in medical testing labs and becomes a dog at the end, very disconcerting! -Cast

Wow! I had TOTALLY forgotten about these two features! I think charlie browns pumpkin patch was kinda hokey to me but something about Garfield's feature was so...not like itself in ways that seemed so much more scary. And I agree, when they get to the haunted house is when it was so unsettling.
