I’m so ready to add a garmin to my kayak! I think I’m going to start with a Striker 4 but it will make such a difference just knowing the depth!

You must be running it on a bass boat... for those who aren't running it through 15 feet of hull, I expected more than the cheap plastic solution they provided on a $1K Unit.

Great install Darren. I did purchase the naqqua from a prev vids, and i love that battery. Four years ago i purchased my striker 4. It's good for learning, and depth. Especially for my pdl drive, and my Bixpy. I do love that upgrade, because it's live scope compatible. I Can't wait to see future vids on you using it. 💯 🎣 🛶

does the transducer arm mount that comes with the garmin connect to the yakattack switchblade?
@Jose-e6h9f Жыл бұрын
Great video! One question. You mounted the transducer flush with the boat. Does the transducer not need to be mounted lower than the hull for the side scan to work properly? It wont interfere with side scan ability mounted like that?

Awesome, good to hear! I was originally going to use a switchblade for my transducer because I car top my kayak so didn't want to be banging the transducer around if it was mounted below the hull but now I will try to flush mount it. Thanks!@@wendellfishing

Hey awesome info! (Also your podcast with the “Garmin Guru” was great as well! One question for you that I’m having a hard time answering (can’t get my hands on one as of yet) what is the measurement for that transducer. I have a kayak with a similar mount but I’m limited on length so I’m not wanting to order the wrong FF

Can the transducer be mounted on the inside hull of the kayak along the bottom instead of having to run it to the bottom? I have a Ocean Kayak scrambler that I use for salt and fresh water fishing. Primarily, its used for deploying shark baits and kayaking them out thru the surf and dropping them a few hundred yards offshore. Because Im running thru surf, I want something that can stay on the inside of the yak and be secured when not being used for the fish finder.

I have read it was possible but I have never tried through the hull transducing. Doesn't make sense that it would but never tried it so I don't know for sure.
@SpicyAngler Жыл бұрын
great videos. regarding your echomap instalation, the way you mounted your ducer, is it reading sidescan? seems u have put it flash with the hull.

@SpicyAngler Жыл бұрын
@@wendellfishing can I ask you that, from your experience are there any kayaks which the ducer frequency can sidescan through the plastic and some kayaks don’t? Or, the ducer always must prochude little bit under the hull to work sidescan? Thanks
@wendellfishing Жыл бұрын
@@SpicyAngler Hey Boss, Side Imaging transducers have beams that shoot out to the side of the transducer therefore they cannot be epoxied into the hull and work properly.
@SpicyAngler Жыл бұрын
@@wendellfishing thanks for reply I appreciate it. I didn’t mean to apoxy it inside I have a transducer scupper place under the hull but if I put it in a protected manner and it doesn’t prochude a bit under and expose (then also can damaged) would it possible work?
@miken7275 Жыл бұрын
Question for you. I heard for sidescan to work properly in a yak the transducer has to hang out a little from the hull. I have a Native Slayer and it’s a heavy beast and always hitting gravel so I went with a side mounted transducer mount. I would prefer to mount it like how you did, and now that you have had time you experiment have you made any adjustments to the mount or good to go? Also I just bought the Garmin 93SV and also thought the sonar plug was ridiculous and glad I am not the only one to think so.

Hey Boss.. I have had no issue and it reads great on my P127. Glad I'm not the only one that things there should have been a better solution than what I was looking at.. especially for the $$$

The removeable nut is a good idea actually. I wish the power cable had the removeable nut as well. I couldn't get the power cord through my fitting or opening in the hull because that nut was so fat. The only way I could get it installed was to work backwards and put the other end through first but in doing that I had to cut the fuse housing off and then resplice it together once everything was wired. Pain in the rear.

That clip on threaded part on the unit end of the transducer cable isnt dumb!!! Its brilliant! You only think its dumb because you have not tried to run all that cable thru the hull of a bass boat! But not putting the normal threaded nut on the end it makes it much easier to fish your cable thru the hull of a full blown bass rig.
@wendellfishing Жыл бұрын
Couple reasons I still think it's dumb. You would only be saving 1/8th inch. 2: For someone who may be putting it on something other than a bass boat, it's a really cheap design on a $1K unit. 3: Not intuitive for install. A waterproof click connect makes more sense to me than the cheap plastic connector they made.

I just bought the 7-in version myself, I'm curious if you have any ideas how to do a center mount on a autopilot 136?. I feel like I would much rather have the screen directly in front of me as opposed to my left or right side. I wondered if you had any kind of ideas? I thought about mounting some sort of pole in front of me using the gear tracks and maybe attaching with robo grips? Any help would be appreciated

I don't believe so, as the listing shares that it is compatible with the Echomap 6-7", 9" but stops there. You can see it in one of the photo listings here: www.amazon.com/Attack-Finder-Mount-System-Large/dp/B07G7DT3BX?psc=1&pd_rd_w=HfmxN&content-id=amzn1.sym.ea1d9533-fbb7-4608-bb6f-bfdceb6f6336&pf_rd_p=ea1d9533-fbb7-4608-bb6f-bfdceb6f6336&pf_rd_r=M6PGWAR3FG0HSR7GTJ6G&pd_rd_wg=1Tfdy&pd_rd_r=65cb2f5f-be6d-4499-8e75-b25c1db547b5&ref_=sspa_dk_detail_1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWM=

I’m trying to have as clean a set up as possible. So I have a NuCanoe unlimited and I’m thinking about running the battery and transducer (using that puddy method) inside the rear internal storage. And then run the wires up thru the yak and out the gear plate next to the seat. Anyone have any thoughts or advice
@wendellfishing Жыл бұрын
I have yet to use the putty method but I have read (like you) that it is supposed to work. Eveything else makes sense to me. The tranducer plug would be a pretty big hole.

Question. With mounting the transducer under the kayak, is there enough clearance from the hull for side imaging to work properly? I have a slayer max 10 and am thinking of getting the same electronics. Deciding between using the switchblade or going with the mounting area that's already there. Awesome video btw!

Ok so here’s the million dollar question. If I get the g56 transducer will it automatically upgrade my 93sv? The guy at bass pro when explaining it made it sound like if you bought the combo with the 56 not only was the transducer better but the processor was faster. I’m not sure if he meant it just processes faster cause of the transducer or if the unit was also faster then the 93sv combo that came with the 54. Do you have the answer for that Wendell
@wendellfishing5 ай бұрын
here is what I found: THe GT56 & GT 54 will perform pretty equally in most uses, the GT56 has a deeper usable range, but if you are fishing in less than 75' of water, that won't matter. The GT54 has UHD clear view, which is great in shallow water (under 30') that the GT56 lacks, but the GT 56 will be a better performer once you get to about 60' of water depth. There is a reason it costs more, and that is because it uses somewhat bigger elements.

The cell block isn’t that big. It will hold a 12v 10ah battery and the whole purpose of it is to not drill holes in your yak if you don’t want. It also makes it so you can take your rig off and put it on another one without install and deconstruction.
