Just finished a 7-day bivac hike using my trusty FR255 as a recording/navigation device. Only had to charge it once as each day it was using about 20% of charge. I would say that the Enduro is really for the most extreme users, the 150 km ultra runners who don't want to charge their watch at any point. Otherwise the 955 Solar might be the better/cheaper option !

I am on my second enduro 3. The best I have gotten so far is 7% battery drain in one day. That is with hitting the gym 2x a day and no GPS. With GPS 2-3 hours tracking, nothing less than 11 percent at the end of the day. That is with the stock watch faces, continuous heart monitoring and o2 readings while sleeping. To say this watch will last over a month is simply not true, it won't get even close. You will be lucky to get 1.5 to 2 weeks. Also, the first one, I left outside in direct sunlight for just over 3 hours, and it never gained even 1% battery life. On the positive side, it's very light and a dream to wear.

SpO2 tracking eats a lot, even when set to sleeping only. In my experience with fenix 6x 24/7 SpO2 literally halves the battery live, if not worth, and "sleeping only" reduces battery life by a quarter or so. Speaking of SpO2 - is it useful now? I find it almost useless in fenix 6 and saw the same feedback for the Elevate V4 (fenix 7 non-pro)... Is it better with Elevate V5? With my watches the difference in readings when sleeping in a place with horrible ventilation is barely visible, though I could clearly feel that I wasn't getting enough air when sleeping. I'm not a climber and I don't hike high enough, though. I was hoping it could help with sleep analysis and in case of illness or other non-altitude related stuff that can affect SpO2. Also with fenix 5x and fenix 6x I found out that auto backlight can reduce battery live in some cases.

I don't know how I have managed myself with an Apple Watch for all these years, petting the AW like a Tamagotchi... taking the cable and charger everywhere charging and hoping it would last for a few more hours... I am done! Hopefully I will get the Enduro 3. I wonder how good is the refresh rate of the maps rendering on the Enduro 3? something I have to admit is that An Apple Watch series 5 (4 years old) can render maps pretty well using the app Work Out Doors (the best app for AW), the catch is that it would kill the battery in a few hours. So that's my only concern: How does the Enduro 3 renders maps (is the processor good?) and with the (new) MIP display?

Have you tested the battery life or are these just the data spec sheets from garmin nicely rendered? Specs are one thing, but real life is what I am looking for. Most of the time the spec data promises too much, as the required lux ist most of the time not there in normal weather conditions and use on a wrist.
@mlegrandАй бұрын
These are 100% spec numbers from Garmin. I’ve found them to be pretty accurate. I haven’t done a 90 hour GPS activity and I also typically set the GPS mode into SatIQ mode instead of what’s being quoted here. But Garmin also reports on battery drain within the .fit file so I can extract that to make sure the estimates aim to matches their listed specs.

As long as it is not wireless. I love the fact that I can recharge my watch to pretty much 100% in just about 20 mins.
@Blackwing23456359 күн бұрын
@@claudiojaramillo5177 On contrary - I would like to see a wireless charging OPTION (not wireless only). Their proprietary port is pretty robust, especially if you buy a cover for it, but I have started getting some slight inconsistencies with any cables in my ancient Fenix 5X Plus a couple of years ago and pins look awful xD Even in Fenix 6X I can see some pins losing gold plating and going matte, but works perfectly still. Unfortunately it will require a non-metal back, so IDK if it worth it actually.

Does it lag as the Fenix 8 this one?
@mlegrand2 ай бұрын
I'm not seeing any noticeable lag in this watch. My theory on the lag is that Garmin is slowing down the refresh rates to a really low level and even potentially slowing down the clock speed of the cpu and then speeding things up once it knows it's being used and interacted with. This is common among all modern Garmin watches and even other brands like COROS.
@Blackwing23456359 күн бұрын
@@mlegrand Garmins are not as snappy and smooth in animations, as "nice" regular smartwatches, like Samsung or Apple. That's the part of the reason they live so long, and I personally don't mind considering how pathetic battery life is for those. If you are using buttons - it doesn't matter at all, because with buttons it goes as fast as you can press them (it will just skip animations if needed) and the visual part doesn't matter - you typically still can do things quicker with buttons than on other touch-oriented watches with their touchscreens) As for dynamic clocks and power - oh for sure, everything has it, not only watches. The difference is - how it is tuned and what is the maximum CPU is allowed to reach + some other details. For any device (from watches to phones to laptops and PCs) - if power efficiency is in the highest priority, the device will feel more laggy and sluggish. P.S. It goes from a high refresh rate and sped up animations freak in both phones and PCs xD

I have a Fenix 7 Pro and was looking for the new Fenix 8, but now the Enduro3 is for me the better option, because my focus was always the longer battery live ad I dont care for a microfone in a watch. I do not talk to my devices, neither to my phone, Alexa or my car. Because most of the time the devices dont understand the commands and in public I find it stupid. So why should I now start talking to my watch.
@mlegrand2 ай бұрын
If that's the case than this Enduro 3 is really the way to go. It's pretty similar to your Fenix but with a really nice long battery life. There's really not much to dislike here. It's just a work horse! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

For the love of god why does garmin always gave a leading zero on the time. When it's 2pm it said 0200... I don't understand.
@mlegrandАй бұрын
Good point. I’m guessing someone over at Garmin thinks it looks better 🤷🏻♂️. I think it should only show the zero if you’ve set your watch to read in military time style. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment Max!. I really appreciate it. 👍

All I care about is the screen. Is it easier to read than the fenix 7 series or enduro 2? Those screens were foggy and reflective.
@bb4prelude732 ай бұрын
From all the review and reddit post. They say it is easier to read. I also hate the reflection of the 7 series..

It's hard to tell if it's easier to read than the Enduro 2. I put both of those screens next to each other a few times during this video but I'd say it might be a little bit better for visibility. 🤷♂️
@bsmukler2 ай бұрын
In my opinion, the screen IS clearer than the previous Power Sapphire lens, and doubling the width of the black solar cell ring without reducing screen real estate was ingenious. The fiber reinforced polymer case is actually on almost all of their watches, with or without screwed on metal back plates. One difference in this instance is that the sides of the lugs (triangular openings) have been much more hollowed out than on previous models and on the Fenix 8. We will have to see if that area is hard to clean over time.

An everyday watch. Just because there is no great battery life smartwatch AT ALL. Garmin should make a solar MIPS Android wear watch geared towards battery life. For some reason no one makes one and everyone wants one. Their stock would immediately skyrocket. And yes, I consider it. I will receive mine in 4 days.

Good point! Yeah, I'll be curious to hear what you think about this watch after you've had it for a while. It'd definitely geared towards ultramarathon runners. Ugly. I guess if you really really need insane amounts of battery its great but would rather have a really nice looking watch with a little less battery. Fenix 8 AMOLED is probably going to be my upgrade. The Epix 2 would last on my 13 hour hikes no problem without using any real battery saving options.
