This channel is awesome! Been binging all your tech reviews. Great work! One question, i REALLY wanna buy an HRM pro plus so i have been researching for DAYS. I am worried that since the pod is attached permanently that if it craps out im stuck and have to buy another, and they are EXPENSIVE!! But if you had your hrm pro for 3 years with no issues, those dead straps might be user error? How is the longevity for these?

Great insights into the new HRM Pro Plus strap. I ordered one and am excited that I can just wear the strap to track my steps and do yard work without wearing my watch! I like this option because I get concerned about damaging the watch while working in the yard. I ordered the HRM Pro + to use with my new 955 after upgrading from a 405 and HRM1B Heart Rate Monitor. The HRM Pro + is not as comfortable as the HRM1B, and I don't believe the attachment clip will last. The HRM1B was sculptured to your body, you could just replace the stretch band, and it was easier to clean. The HRM Pro + is a throw-away device if the strap wears out or the attachment clip breaks! The production cost of this device is definitely less than the HRM1B. The little pad that goes between your body and the attachment clip on the Pro is not large enough to prevent the clip from digging into you. Unfortunately, the HRM Pro + is the strap to have if you own the 955, but I wish it was more comfortable as I also want to wear it without my watch to track activities like yard work (steps). I like the fact that you can do this with the HRM Pro +, and I can ditch the foot pod for indoor treadmill runs. Maybe I will get used to the strap, but after seeing many reports of the HRM Pro failing in a year or so, I am concerned about its longevity. Cross my fingers. I wore the new HRM Pro + for the first time today while doing yard work, and it tracked my steps and heart rate, but it also cut into my side at the clip! I know have a welt there after wearing it for five hours. The strap is as tight as my older HRM1B, and I have loosened it as far as possible. I don't believe it is too tight, but the design is flawed. The clip does not stay under the small flap on the band but rides up and contacts my chest digging into it! Not sure the benefits outweigh the lack of comfort while wearing.

I'm kinda gun-shy about buying the integrated straps over the modular. I have an older (red) heart strap and after a while, it stopped providing consistent data. Lots of drop-outs. I washed the strap the best I could and it didn't get better. I went back to the older monitor that attaches to the strap. I can buy additional straps and the monitor is still going strong. Back when I was having problems with it I thought it was the monitor so I bought a couple additional. However, I've since discovered it was the strap. I wash the strap about once a week in with my regular laundry and hang it to dry. Plus, I bought the Powrlabs replacement straps. I haven't had the first issue with drop-outs since. I use a foot pod for running dynamics. I like the idea of the strap recording data without the watch. But just how reliable are the newer straps?

@DesFit
@DesFit 2 жыл бұрын
The only thing the Venu 2 could take advantage of is the indoor running pace/distance. That should be supported a bit later via software update. The Venu 2 doesn’t support all the other running dynamics and HR download features though, so if you don’t need any of those, an HRM dual could be a better bet. Thanks!

How long did you run with the strap outside to get those results for pace/distance? DC Rainmaker says he did it for a few weeks to get the results that are close to Stryd. I've just done about two hours, and the pace and distance still seem pretty off running on an indoor track. The lane 1 of the indoor track should be 12 laps for one mile, but I just got .97 after 12 laps in lane 4, not to mention the pace read on my watch seemed really off as well the whole time. The results after showed more similar to what the pace likely was, but still seemed a little off. The pace was a tad faster than I have done on my outdoor runs though as it was cadence training while my outdoor runs were all longer distances, even though I tried to do some quicker paces at the end of the runs. How does it bucket these paces? Do I need to run intervals at exact paces to get the strap to track? Really love the idea of using this instead of buying a Stryd pod, but I'm just trying to get it to match up as closely as possible. Thank you so much for the review! It's appreciated!

The HRM Pro/Pro Plus can collect your HR and steps throughout the day, so you'd have a pretty good estimate of your calories and steps for the day if you were to wear it all day but you wouldn't be able to manually log individual activities, at least with Garmin Connect. However, for activities, you could use something like the Strava app on your phone which can pair with the strap to log individual activities.

Pretty much any bluetooth HR strap would work but you wouldn't necessarily need the HRM Pro/HRM Pro Plus since the more advanced features of the strap require a Garmin watch to collect that data.

From what I heard there is no new functions with the pro+, when they released the pro+ they also released new software for the pro, so it got all the new features that the pro+ has. Only difference should be the battery compartment. right?
@DesFit

Yup, the battery compartment is the difference now.

do i get the full suite of function available on the hrm pro+ if connected on the garmin connect app ?

Connecting it with the Garmin Connect app will sync over your heart rate and steps from the strap but all other functions require a compatible Garmin watch.

I am just looking for a way to measure heart rate and calories burnt. Would I be able to pull that off with this or do I need the Wrist watch as well?

I guess what I am saying is if it is practical or not.

With the Garmin watch off, does the app use the data from the HRM to track body battery? It would be a good option where we can wear a dress watch and continue to monitor heart rate through the day.

It doesn’t look like it has any affect on body battery.

Offline Heart Rate: Does this really work? I also have a HRM pro + and as far as I can see I only get a few stats in my activity in the App (hear rate and steps for example) but my watch isn't showing heart rate and burned calories for example. I've downloaded the heart rate on the watch manually and received a confirm but most of the stats are looking wrong or most of the period is missing. Further the measurement has no impact on my training form and load (1h work out and my watch tells me i'm in recovery mode). Someone with the same issues here?

Do you know if this will connect to regular smart watches like the Samsung Galaxy watch 4?
@DesFit
@DesFit Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that's a limitation with Samsung Watches is that they don't natively pair to any external heart rate monitor. There is a watch face called Sporty Watch Face that can pair with external HRMs but it's not part of Samsung Health.

Any thoughts as to how it compares to the polar H10 for cycling purposes?

The second time I replaced battery on HRM-pro. It's completely dead.

I did 121 hours of running with my HRM-Pro (not Plus) over 13 months until it reported "battery low". It took 5 minutes to change the battery. If you have HRM-Pro, don't upgrade it to Plus.

I have a garmin edge and HRM Dual, but do not have a watch, nor do I really want one. Can I use this completely stand alone e with the connect app and still store indoor/outdoor running dynamics if I use say Strava? Ie do I lose any functionality, data by not using a watch? Thanks for a great video!
@DesFit
@DesFit 2 жыл бұрын
You’ll have to use a Garmin watch that has the capability of collecting that data from the HRM Pro/Pro Plus, HRM Tri/Run, or RD Pod. Can’t collect it with just the app. Thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply. Follow up question.. What the cheapest or most suitable watch I can get away with then? I’ve owned an Apple Watch and Samsung but gave them both away as I don’t like Wearing them and I’m 90% a cyclist that wants to run a bit. I just want to analyse the data when I’m back home. See trends. Thanks again.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if I use Strava, and don't want to run with my phone or watch, can I use this strap to track my distance and pace? Like after a run will I be able to get the pace and distance synced to Strava without wearing a watch or running with my phone?
@DesFit
@DesFit 11 ай бұрын
The strap won't work independently to track distance and pace - it will need to be paired to a Garmin watch to collect those metrics. The only metrics it provides while not paired to a device are heart rate and steps which can be synced to Garmin Connect.
