I'm an older dude but a relative neophyte when it comes to fishing. I don't have 25 more years to learn what a fish does and where they go. I need a short cut and Live Scope seems to be that tool that helps me figure it all out. Great video I really appreciate the insight keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

Great video, Gabe. Agree on all points. Livescope & Crappie isn't the slam dunk it's made out to be. More don't bite than do. I'd guess 90%+ don't commit on average. What that does give me is the knowledge to know i need to switch things up or move to another area. If they're not biting, they're probably not going to no matter what I do. Finding new cover is one of the major benefits i leverage it for, that I'd miss using sidescan.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge in what is obviously a very well planned and executed presentation. It looks like you picked a perfect day to film this "lesson" with little wind and sun glare to make the best quality video for us. I like the fact that you have learned more about fish behavior using the tool, and that you were able to share some specific situations and patterns that you learned to recognize on the screen (e.g. a bass in the middle of a bait ball appearing as the pupil of an eye).

Very good video. Very interesting on what’s underneath the water, brush piles, humps ect. Also loved how the fish reacted to your bait. Great for finding different places to fish. You have a tendency to fish where you normally catch, but the FFS definitely would tell you why the area appears as if the fish have “disappeared “ when they really haven’t. It could be like you said, they’re not feeding at that time. Would be great for Crappie fishing also. So cool to see what’s under the water. After watching this video, I can definitely see what I could possibly getting hung up on. GREAT video and content. Thanks Gabe. 🎣👍

It’s on my list of things for the boat. I’d definitely think of it as a tool but it’s definitely controversial subject for sure. Just because you can see them doesn’t mean you can catch them. Imo there’s a time and place for it. Great content as always Gabe. Ty
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shawn. I think I catch about 5% of the fish but I don't spend a lot of time casting to fish. IMO it's more useful for finding cover and fish relating to the cover. Then casting to the cover and just fishing. I think a lot of the controversy comes from people who don't understand it's limitation, the price tag and not using it for a few days to see what it's all about. It's just a tool. Hope you get it someday.

I run the Active Target but started with the Gen1 Panoptix and it definitely is an awesome tool ice fishing ! Just knowing how many more fish are around you is amazing and how it shows the mood they’re in. I agree too just because you see em doesn’t mean your gonna catch them. In ice fishing with this technology since your in one spot with no movement it’s amazing ! Great video 👍👍

For me greatest advantage is eliminating unproductive areas. I fish a shallow river a lot (2 to 4 foot feet) with perspective i can slowly go along a bank with the unit pointed at the bank and SEE if theres any fish there. Where as before i felt the need to pound every foot of the bank. Also really informative to see just how far out the fish react to my kayak.

Good video. My feelings on live scope and active target are this. They are a tool. Pro fishermen are basically in a blue color job. Some might argue that but follow their schedule. They have to make money to continue to work. If you're in a trade, let's say a carpenter, a tool comes out that gets the job done faster, and you have more time to get more business. You're going to buy it if not someone else will and be more efficient than you. You well get past up. So, given that if a fisherman wants to stay ahead of everyone else, he needs one. Recreational fishermen, if you have the money and want to learn how to use it, that's also fine. You have to spend many hours on the lake to learn and study the fish. And when you find fish, it's 50/50 they will cooperate. Bass fishermen usually catch and release their fish. I do believe, though, 5-10 years after surveys are done on crappie limits may change both size and amount of fish you keep. That's my thought.

Good stuff as always...only thing I would add is how fish react to lure retrieve speed, you can find out what "mood" the fish are in real quick. Sometimes I just like to watch the fish interact with their habitat and your dead on about how fish move around...they move around offshore way more than I thought.....I built a fold down mount that brings my sonar head about 2ft up off the deck. ..easier to see and easier to change settings which I run about 80ft out and when I find something bring that distance down to 40ft and it makes viewing much clearer......gamechanger...NO...thats hype imo....but definately a great tool IF you can justify the cost....us old guys dont care, our days are limited on the water.....my tournament days are over and will need to rely on my grandsons to take me for saftey reasons.

Just watched the whole video bro! So my question is how to install the process went. All so I have a Garmin that can get front facing sonar. Iv been wanting to mess with it. But I saw they have a box and a sonar arm and I just haven't looked much into it yet.

Can you explain model and set up of garmin and why you chose that brand also do you both graphs at same time. Or do they interfere with each other. Thanks

Good question Mark n thanks for checking out the video. I chose the Garmin 1022 GPSMAP because I wanted a 10". Lowrance offered a 9" and 12" at the time. A 9" is to small IMO and I could not afford a 12". I think Lowrance offers a 10 now that is Active Target compatible. I also chose Garmin because I feel like the picture is better. I've spent multiple days staring at Lowrance Active Target (my buddy has it on his boat) and it is a lot harder for me to find my bait. The Lowrance I have stacked next to my Garmin on the front of the boat is using Downscan, GPS and 2D. The transducer is mounted on the head of my trolling motor and all signals are firing DOWN. The LiveScope transducer is mounted on the shaft and is firing FORWARD so there is no interference.

Does the livescope make alot of noise? high pitched or fast ticks? Are fish in anyway disturbed by the livescope? Doesnt seem so in your videos.
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty Жыл бұрын
It does make noise. I’ve seen it have a negative effect on fish. On Some lakes that have a lot of fishing pressure and a lot of LiveScope fishing you have to make very long casts to keep from spooking the fish.

Excellent video. I recently got a Garmin Livescope also. I am still learning. The forward casting distance and casting accuracy is challenging. It is neat to watch your bait approach structures and cover and fish. You can accurately work your bait over and around cover. I would guess before livescope, at best only 25% of the time your cast and bait were on the structure.

It's a amazing tool Bill. I'd say you're right on the 25%. It makes one more efficient on the water. Glad you enjoy using it and thanks for the feedback and for checking out the channel. Tight lines.

Super video and thanks for taking time out of your own fishing to help the rest of us out! Were these views Perspective or Forward facing? Was going to hold off on LS until next year to get better acquainted with side/down view. You're making it tough however! Couple questions: on a livestream, you and J stated you still had 32 transducers. There are several out there on Marketplace from sellers who apparently upgraded to the 34 units. Have you experienced LS with the 34 transducer and do you see a marked difference that is worth the extra fmoney? Would you go with the 34 if you were starting from scratch? Other question was whether you are using the stock Garmin transducer mount and how long it takes to adjust the transducer between down/forward/perspective modes? Another Garmin user suggested the Summit mount which permits adjusting the transducer and thus the beam. Do you have any opinion on that? Keep up the great work and I'm sure we'll cross paths again this year!

Thanks Kevin. You are welcome. These videos take a lot of work so I appreciate the feedback. I was using forward not perspective. I haven't used the perspective. I just pan with my TM. I haven't personally seen the 34 in action but trusted friends have told me you can see your bait about 20 feet further and the fish/cover separation is better. I'm happy with the 32 but if I was buying new I would go with the 34 if I had the money. Either way you will be impressed with the 32. I have the stock mount. The 34 comes with an adjustable bracket and it's easy to switch between all the views. Hope to see you on the water.

What are your thoughts on mounting the FFS transducer on the trolling motor shaft or a second pole that you can control separate from the trolling motor.
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty 2 жыл бұрын
I like it on the shaft so I can use the foot pedal to scan. I think a pole is another thing to mess with. Some poles have a foot pedal but you would have to mess with it and the TM pedal. If you use a manual pole you have to have a free hand to turn it. Spot Lock in conjunction with a pole is probably the best use. If I crappie fished a bunch I would consider a pole.

It just comes with practice. If I see a bright blip on side scan I can always drop my trolling motor and use LiveScope to investigate. A fish will have a harder return than grass.

"It's a great tool for finding cover and baitfish..." That exact phrase can be said about an entry level $200 fish-finder today. To be clear, I don't "hate" Livescope. If a fisherman has the money, and has fun with it, then all the power to him. It seems to me that there's a generation (or two) of fisherman today, that just loves gadgets. I'm a musician, and that industry is being consumed with the same mindset. There wasn't anything said in this video that can't be done to some degree with a budget fish-finder. At best it looks like Livescope gives you more control over what you see, assuming you want to sit there turning your trolling motor back and forth. Spot-lock, i-Pilot...THOSE are game changers. This video, ironically, is in many ways an argument on why you DON'T need it. Just because you see a bunch of fish, doesn't mean you're going to catch them...a lesson that was learned centuries ago, and a logic that applies again, to a garden variety sonar. So, after 4 videos, to see what all the excitement's about, from differenet channels, I just don't see anything that warrants the purchase.....not even remotely. Looking forward to the new Force, and two 126sv's installed. Again, not being hateful, or unappreciative of the video, just not impressed, especially for the money. *But, a big salute to you for taking the time to film this and share your thoughts and experiences. That's worth hitting the like button, in-and-of itself.*

@phillamoore respectable comment & all the best to you.🤝 However you will NEVER be able to catch the fish with Forward Facing Technology that you can without it. Impossible. Live sonar allows you to Open Water. Your best option would be Spider Rigging. But where & you could target that certain fish. Live sonar allows you to determine the species. Your Side Imaginge, 2D, & Down Imaging is showing you constant OLD DATA where the fish could literally be gone by the time you drop a line in the water. Your choice Your rules.❤ I can respect it. However, in 2023 I've not seen any Horse & Carriages galloping down the highways in Tx vs cars. I've seen no people getting water from wells & heating it up from for baths vs using current plumbing. You actually sound like a guy who catches & has caught fish & will still continue to. I Salute that Sir.🤝 However you won't catch the fish without it like you would with it. JUST FACTS.✅️ Forward Facing Technology has taught Fisherman we were absolutely wrong about tons of things in regards to ALL SPECIES OF FISH & FORWARD FACING TECHNOLOGY ALLOWS ANGLERS TO ENJOY FISHING MORE BY ELIMINATING DEAD WATER TO ENJOY THE SPORT. 👍 Some people don't like change. Great. It's not going to stop CHANGE. CHANGE IS INEVITABLE! Best to ya @phil. 🤝 No hard feelings. But for people who have caught over 10,000 fish that get Forward Facing Technology, it has made it a Game within a Game, within a Game & its a BLAST😂. People fail to realize all the people catching HIGH YIELDS OF QUALITY FISH using Forward Facing Technology are people who understand fish & were catching plenty before it.😉🙃🤪

I have Live Scope. I have a ton of success with. With that said long term on are fisheries in United States I think it will hurt these lakes. I’m in Missouri and the amount of limits I see people taking every time they go fishing has to hurt in time, crappie especially. For some reason lately I see more people eating bass. Missouri needs better limits, slots something to get a head of this before it gets out of hand.

If haters of FFS would watch this video, they may not be hating so much. Most of the haters off FFS have just been told its bad and most don't like any type of new tech. with fishing or just everyday live. FFS is a part of fishing now, there' s no turning back.

I know this is cliche but it really is just another tool in the arsenal. I think most haters haven’t used it for a day. It is expensive so that keeps some people from buying it. It can hurt the crappie population in some lakes so folks need to fish n harvest responsibly.

Great video Gabe, so my question is do you think livescope enhances you chances in most tournaments or do you see it as better as a practice aid. And then with all your focus on the screen are you missing what your eyes on the water would tell you.
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty 2 жыл бұрын
I think it applies to both situations. It can definitely eat up a lot of time. The key is to use it in conjunction with traditional fishing. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything by watching the screen from time to time. If I’m truly fishing shallow I’m not using it much.
