Thanks for this. Your review actually made me go out and buy one. At around the 5:30 mark you mention needing to go back and redo your trip if you wanted to skip a waypoint. I actually found out how you can skip it without needing to do all that. On your nav screen, tap the 3 vertical dots in the bottom right corner of the screen, then tap edit route on the top, then skip next destination. Hope this helps and thanks for the review!

I figured out how to permanently avoid a route but how do I tell my GPS (DEZL 800) how not to avoid a route that Garmin mistakenly assumes is restricted for trucks? I know you are busy, so all help is much appreciated! I tried to shape a route to include a road that I knew was ok for trucks, but my Garmin refused to allow the route to go where I tried to shape it to go.
@ClutchTrucker2 жыл бұрын
I’ve run into that problem too and I haven’t found a fix around it unless I just go into the settings for my truck and put them all back down to like a car or a lower the height limit or lower the weight limit or something sometimes that works just so I can use that route or I just simply drive the route and let it keep yelling at me until it figures out I’m not gonna change

The compass thing, even before you said anything, I was thinking to myself "it must be pointing north and the letter is your direction". Maybe it is because I learned on an old compass that the 'arrow' will always point north (generally), but maybe that is just me.

@tangy3440 Жыл бұрын
Question...Does the unit spec out routes that are condusive for trucks alone? ie: most GPS systems are best route and closest route. as we all know, we have a much different route to follow...curious if this unit distinguishes these routes? bridges, road allowances, best route.....???

It does a decent job. But none are perfect. Use it as a tool only.

Does the weather feature include forecast weather? I would love to see a unit like this show you your three day trip and whoops! If I go the suggested route I'll hit that weather front tomorrow at five....buuuut if I drop south on highway x (reshape!) I'll skirt by it after it passes through. It would be really efficient to route yourself ahead of time for those kind of things rather than just a few hours before the weather event.
@ClutchTrucker2 жыл бұрын
It shows radar currently and slightly in the future. If u tap weather from main screen, it’ll show u a multi day forecast, but only where u are at the moment
@vendingdudes2 жыл бұрын
@@ClutchTrucker Great. So if you're stuck somewhere, you'll know how much snow will accumulate while on your windshield while you sit. Meanwhile, if you had known the path of the storm when planning the trip two days ago, you could have changed your route, or used split sleeper to keep rolling, or whatever. The infrastructure is there in this technology; this sort of next level planning would be uber helpful for everyone, but especially rookies.

You can access the "shape" function directly from the main map. Touch the screen, a box on the top right will pop up, select it and the whole route appears and it's ready for you to touch and shape it You forgot a very important part. How to transfer the saved places from one Garmin to the other.... And it's so quick, through the Garmin Express website.... the transfer was lighting fast,, hundreds of saved places right into the otr 1000 I got this model after 3 years with the 770 . I've had the OTR 1000 for 6 weeks. I loved the 770 and I love the 1000 Just like the 770, the live traffic feature is excellent, the re routing is excellent, but unlike the 770, it shows you in gray the alternate route along with current route It shows you both, simultaneously, the distance left for next stop and final destination or choose other readings instead, like DISTANCE REMAINING. Worth the cost. But just like the 770. The voice command feature truly sucks, but I still give this product 10 stars out of 10 I don't have to rely on Google much anymore for traffic conditions the otr 1000 is very accurate and warns you way ahead of time. The weather function is fantastic, gives all you need, current situation and forecast for the area you're driving in as you go. The radar feature is fantastic You will see ( for example) where the snow storm or anything else is passing though and gives you a time lapse This is a very awesome product

Does this thing ever do weird stuff like route you 100s of miles or so out of the way and back...just to avoid an area that it "thinks" is closed or weight restricted? For example, on an old a few years ago, if on I80 west from PA into OH, it would route me way up to I90w for a while, then back down to I80, instead of staying on I80... Anything like that?

In winter when there is snow and ice outside does Rusty have winter boots or a coat he can wear to stay warm? As a trucker how does one vote in elections? If you get really sick what happens if you are far from home? Have you ever actually gotten really sick over the years as a trucker? Thanks.

I usually looked on the back of my health insurance card for the website or customer service number to find a health care provider on route to my destination or present loacation. VOTING i always did early voting in person.

As far as question one Rusty just has to deal with it we’re not outside all that long for him to do his business so he has to be cold unfortunately I don’t have little doggy boots or anything like that. As for voting I try to always make sure I do the mail in ballots early I forgot this year so I don’t get a vote this time unfortunately. And as far as being sick on the road yes I have a few look back in my videos back in February when Covid started I had a bad recurrence of my necrotizing fasciitis I had to just find an urgent care that’s about my only option out here

I am wondering why it hasn't got much interest here in the UK. I might be interested but I don't know if the data it holds will be as good as it shows in your side of the world.

Yeah that’s a good question I have no idea

@@ClutchTrucker It truly looks really nice but I am a bit apprehensive in getting it. It is well known over here and I don't want to invest in something that might not use it's full potential.

Can you choose which email address pops up? Have 3 addresses and would only want ONE for work to pop up.

It works with a separate unit the plugs into your truck and then the E log portion of the OTR 1000 will be activated you have to buy the other piece separately I believe it’s around $150-$250 I can’t remember which exactly but there is no subscription fees after that point

I own few Garmin devices.Few MAJOR issues which nobody can fix or explain: 1. FREEZINGS. After few months of using,it becoming more and more worse(nothing more,apps or stuff instaled on it) After 9-11 months,it gets starting reboot yourself in middle of driving(imagine,in middle of big city,you became blind in 1 second,starting navigate looking to signs..) 2. STORAGE SPACE. Nobody can explain what is storage space using for...It has 8GB internal and its always 200Mb empty on it... Trying different ways to find all this heavy internal GBs (through device or PC)with information,and to clean useless files...YOU CAN DO NOTHING!! To prevent some childish comments,i would say,first few months,devices running great(so,no factory defects),not dropped,not hitted,every month updated... Take care of your money,even you spending fuel points(doesnt means its free). Make your own research before purchase(forums,sites,customers reviews.) There's no ideal devices,but just you can decide what weak sides you can live with.. Stay safe,colleagues!!

One serious downfall of OTR series is using 'Route Edit' in cities. The zoom feature will not zoom down to the individual street name level. Garmin says that this how it's supposed to work as "trucks are supposed to avoid cities". I'm really disappointed in my purchase. TomTom Trucker does not have this problem. If your destinations are big cities downtown, DO Not buy Garmin. OTR is a wonderfu piece of hardware. If only the programming and the useless Dezl app were designed with truck drivers in mind.
