Thank you for this great and useful data. I am currently using an Optishot 2 device, and my room allows me to be 7 foot from the net, and I have 6 foot behind to put the Garmin. Your work here convinced ne that I can use the R10 without modifying my current setup. Thank you VERY much, great work.

Great review. It would be also good to confirm if the R10 was actually reading spin or estimating spin as you got closer to the screen. I believe the Garmin golf app will show this with either non-italics or italics on the spin number in the app.
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate yes I was going to confirm this later on next week. But I would hazard a guess to say it is estimating the spin especially with driver as the spin I'm seeing from 6ft ball to screen matches when I use a regular pro v1 from my usual 9 to 10ft ball to screen. Cheers

I've only had my Garmin for a few days but so far it has been great. Outdoors I found that it was within 2-3 yards on 99% of the balls I hit (balls that I could easily verify distance anyway, LW through 6 iron). In my garage where I have 6.75 feet from unit to ball and 9 to 9.5 feet from ball to net I find I'm about 5 yards longer than outdoors at the range. I'm hitting expensive balls in the garage and range balls at the range though, so I think that is pretty good agreement and good results inside. Also, I'm just using the garmin range app at the moment. Very happy so far.

Nice break down. I wonder if the results would have been better on the 6ft ball to screen if you had moved to 7 ft ball to device. The field of view for the Garmin might expand and be able to read the 9 iron launch a bit better. Also, I wonder if the RCT ball was making a difference. Would have liked to see a series of shots with a regular ball to see if there's a difference in the data at each position. Maybe a follow up video of just 7ft ball to screen setup comparing results between the RCT and a regular ball...
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Nicholas yes both very good points! The wider field of view point was good I hadn't thought about that but if I was in that situation and had that extra foot I would definitely put it on the ball to screen side vs ball to unit side. Honestly it was a bit scary hitting that close to the screen! Lol. I had planned to do a follow up video to see if the R10 was calculating the spin with the RCT from closer as I am almost certain it isn't as you get to that 7 and 6 ft ball to screen. I think it's definitely still usable from 7ft.. but like the results showed it was just starting to see some degradation in the carry length (due to spin being a little higher). But yes I'll definitely add that in to the follow up video in the new year. Thanks for the comment!

Great video and very helpful. I would be interested to see what the results would be if Almost balls or SCI-Core balls were used. Building a small sim in my garage with limited space. I will be 7' from the screen with 6' from the R10 and using SCI-Core Balls. Still a gamble to purchase everything without certainty it will work properly lol.
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Жыл бұрын
Hey Kerry thank you! In my further testing the SCI CORE are just not getting consistent reads and really seem to struggle with club data which is strange. With that kind of space hmmmm it's probably a lot easier and more functional to get a camera based unit like skytrak or used GC2. The GC2 data with the sci core looked better and more consistent than the R10 data.

Great content as usual from your channel! Thanks! I wonder if your distance to the screen is adequite when using rct balls and that may cause misreads of the best drives. Thats because rct balls need minimum 2 rounds of spin before the screen according to Garmin info. If you smash hard with minimum spin like 2000 rpm, it may be on the edge.

Hey Tony my ceilings are 2.7m so almost 9 feet. I would assume that wiling height would only impact what club you could hit unless there is something on the ceilings that could potentially cause interference. @@JLagGOLF Hey Joe, thanks for doing this comprehensive test. I just received my r10 and tested mostly with 8 iron outside from various swing lengths (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full). Used the Garmin app and distances displayed matched spot on to what I stepped off as part of my testing. I have 6’ from r11 to ball and 10’ from ball to net in garage, however shot distances where shorter by 10-15 yards. I have a lot of metal shelving and stuff on the sides, plus concrete floor, and hitting closer to one side, so assume I need to clear some space, maybe get closer to the middle of my garage to see if that helps get same indoor to outdoor results. I have also tried the E6 Connect simulator and distances are still not matching. There are differences with the Garmin app and E6, but haven’t really recorded result deviations yet. Any thoughts on interferences that impacts indoor data? I did see an altitude, temperature and humidity adjustment does change results, so if 8 iron outside is 160 yards compared to 145 yards inside, then adjust these three settings as needed to get inside distance to the same 160 yards. I haven’t done this, nor calibrated the r10, but would like your insight if this is valid. Lastly, you can swing a full driver with 9’ ceilings? I have the same, yet to give it a go out of fear of hitting the ceiling💥 🙁

@@RWCARC Hey Randal no problems mate and thanks for the comment. Yes I would definitely say try cover or clean up the shelving. I have metal shelves both sides of my garage and those black curtains serve as a dual purpose to prevent shanks hitting the walls (from the kids) but more importantly block all that potential interference caused by the shelves. I have heard a lot of people talk about concrete causing interference I haven't found this but I covered it up mostly for looks and also sound proofing. A lot of people play with the altitude setting to match outside results however for me this would be a last resort because I really don't think it's necessary. Indoor swing syndrome is also a very real thing. I hope you can figure it out and let me know how you go! Yes driver indoors for me is sporting haha I've hit the ceiling a few times when I'm absolutely trying to kill it. Cheers

Does it make a difference hitting into a net versus a screen?
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Жыл бұрын
Hey Dave very good question mate I can only speak to the impact screen. Even my Spornia net has a blank sheet that the ball hits so its not a traditional net. Sorry I cant give you a definitive answer but hopefully someone in the comments can. I will say the Garmin has become a really great unit with all the updates hitting in to a net I don’t think would be to different from an impact screen as long as there isn’t a lot of metal and things radars don’t like behind the net. If you stick to Garmins recommendations you cant go wrong! Cheers

@@JLagGOLF Thanks for the reply. Since it is radar I can’t imagine why a net versus impact screen would make a difference but I’ve seen this persistently in videos and posts. I have a Net Return golf net and an impact screen defeats it’s purpose.

What would you suggest for distances ( garmin - ball, ball- screen) if space wasnt an issue, as using an out door set up..
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Жыл бұрын
Hey Lewis that's a luxury few have! Haha 🤣 it's always the other way trying to squeeze it in with less room. So for an outdoor setup you're hitting in to a net so the same distances apply. I would personally set it up at 7ft unit to ball and then maximise distance to net try 10-12 feet and see how you go with that. Just make sure the net is big enough to move back that far! Don't want to send any balls into other houses. Garmin still recommends 8 feet as a minimum outdoors into a net but they say increasing the distance may help with accuracy. The big thing you have to watch out for outside is exposed concrete as it can cause interference sometimes. Let me know how you go! Cheers

Hey Jonathan thanks for that mate. So I did try and do that for a subscriber and I started to get a lot of no reads especially the higher launching shots and lower launching shots. I suspect this is because it's outside the window the Garmin can "see". If you imagine a cone of radar energy coming out of the Garmin if you start putting the ball too close to it then if you hit too high or low it will be outside that window. Cheers

I gotta say how disappointed I am with my garmin. I’ve had it a week and cannot seem to get accurate numbers above 9 iron. I’ve hung curtains over metal, turned lights out, built a faraday cage, 8 ft from ball to screen, unit is 6 feet behind ball, bought a laser level for alignment. I just cannot get my irons or driver to read over 150 yards consistently. It must be my room setup, but I can’t stretch it out any more. Sad to say after months of research and finally committing to buy, this thing will be for sale soon if I can’t figure it out.
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Жыл бұрын
Hey mate that's very odd.. you should have enough room as you are still within the minimum requirements of the Garmin! Are you able to test it outdoors? Have you played golf indoors before? Whenever I go to a new indoor place I'm really scared to swing hard. It would be also really good if you had the opportunity to take it to say an indoor golf centre and test it in a different environment. I have found indoors photometric based launch monitors easier as you don't need to worry about any interference with the radar. Hope you can get it sorted! I love my R10

@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF 2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate unfortunately I can't give you a concrete answer on this. What I will say is that it's a radar unit so as long as the wall is clear and there are no metal shelves or anything against the wall it should be fine. I have metal storage racks on either side of my garage and that's half the reason I put the black curtains up to stop any potential issues. Cheers

You also get e6 driving ranges, chipping area and 5 free courses that you can enter practice mode in and use them like a range (the e6 licence is for iOS only though so you will need an iPhone or iPad to use it). When I built my screen I did make it go all the way to the ceiling as you can see in videos I have that empty space at the top the projector doesn't fill. One of the reasons for this was I thought I needed a bit more height on my impact screen for higher lofted clubs. My screen height is 8feet 7 inches for reference. I’m personally limited to 12ft combined launch to ball and ball to net so I’m 5ft launch to ball and 7ft ball to net. Thanks Pete! I didn't have that in the plans but I could put mine at 5 and 7 feet and see how that works if you're interested? Then you can compare it to my baseline data. I was measuring up distances this arvo as I am space limited (approx 6m/20ft), and was kinda bummed seeing the general recommendation for distances and thought the R10 would be a no go for me once I take into account a hitting net. I know you have the Spornia SPG7, do you know the length from the rear of the net to the actual 'impact' net/screen? I am hoping to grab a Spornia too, but it seems like it may be a bit too long in my limited space and maybe I need to go for something such as the Net Return (only 1.1m deep). What are your thoughts? Seeing this video, now I am pumped again lol. Love your work Joe!

Thanks mate! Yeah it's a video I wanted when I was going to get mine so I was like I'm going to make it! Lol. I can do a measurement on Saturday as I'll have the Spornia up but it's roughly 2 feet I'm gonna say from the back to the actual drop sheet that you hit into. I'll get a more accurate measurement Saturday. The R10 is great.. 6ft unit to ball and 8ft ball to screen. Yes you're most likely not going to get accurate backspin numbers even with an RCT ball with driver as depending on speed the ball won't do its required number of revolutions.. but the estimate is not too far off and you will lose a bit of distance from it. Irons though should be accurate! I was amazed when I filmed the video I kept thinking ok surely this is where I'm going to see some massive difference and nope.
