And yes. I’m current and experienced on SEP too, being a SFI for a commercial flying school, having retired from airline service. @awuma5 жыл бұрын
It probably was too late for everybody except the flight attendant, so yes, he and the plane would have survived. A special rapid descent mode would need to be available for such high-flying aircraft; the detection of excessively low cabin pressure should be another necessary function, to alert the crew and if necessary to carry out the emergency descent and landing. A detection and alert system would have completely prevented Helios 522.

This could have prevented the Cerritos Aeromexico collision back in August 1986. The small plane pilot had a heart attack (discovered by autopsy) and the other passengers in the small plane could have "pushed a button" to control and land the Piper small aircraft. This happened at the same year I got my pilot's license which also changed some laws for private pilots.

This is an awesome system. Hopefully all future aircraft will have something like this. I assume that the Auto Land system contacts the ATC of the airport it’s going to try to land at with some sort of message to let them know what is going on and so they can clear any traffic for the plane to land safely.

This needs to become standardized technology in all planes one day and hopefully soon. For the military it could save pilots from blood clots or hypoxia. And in commercial imagine in a grim scenario like pilots not responding whether it be a terrorist attack or a rogue pilot, someone on the ground could just push an emergency button and the plane would fly itself safely down to the nearest airport.

If this system is made mandatory for all aircraft, it will put an incredible amount of cost into an already expensive endeavor. Regulating this system into wide distribution will harm the aviation industry and remove the incentives that would lower costs. If this system is a game changer (as it seems to be) and it is left to market forces, there will be an incentive for other avionics companies (new and legacy) to develop their own versions. That in turn will drive down costs and availability to more customers.
@KingOfBanks5 жыл бұрын
That's an uneducated comment. Not required or possible in most general aviation aircraft. 99.x% of general aviation aircraft would not be able to afford this or be compatible with it. The incredible degree of safety in aviation would (if you go by FAA/NTSB etc info) make this a statistical gimmick for actual use in its designed parameters (incapacitation). You're not mandated to drive a cutting edge Mercedes or Tesla because it has the highest safety rating, I'm guessing? Same principle applys here.

No technology is perfect it is obviously better than having no pilot. If this technology could safely get the plane on a highway it would still be awesome because it would still be better than no pilots Can all the techies stop busting my butt and thinking I am saying it is a bad technology. I never once said that in any of my posts across the entire comments section. I am just being realistic and recognizing it MAY have shortcomings. That doesn’t mean I think it is bad that just means I am using critical thinking skills and not just going OMG THIS IS PERFECT THIS MAKES PILOTLESS AIRPLANES POSSIBLE ALL CRASHES WILL COME TO AND END! Before we can use this for pilotless airliners or even single cockpit airliners we need to verify it can be used in all situations and people asking these questions “what about this situation?” “Can it do this?” “Can it this can it that?” Is a GOOD thing. Maybe there is something the people working on this didn’t see or couldn’t predict. So please stop thinking I am condemning the technology it is obviously better than having no pilot on board stop putting words into my mouth. Thank you

After installing all the required gear + pilot and one pax, you are already overweight. “Families” where an aircraft that this product would be a great idea could likely also afford a co-pilot in the right seat, and/or a trained spouse. Maybe in some small business aircraft this would be super neat. Will that pay the cost of product development plus earn a tidy company/shareholder profit? Maybe so.

I suspect it’ll save weight on most aircraft. Didn't your Garmin psychologist tell you that? No, they did not because they are not professional pilots. This is going to be a huge problem in the future. As it is very often in aviation: a good idea, but not fully understood. Good luck, George... oops, I touched the touch screen... oops, the autoland took over my manual landing... oops, the engine shut down automatically, in flight.... oops... Do you want more? This is exactly what happens when young computer geeks and non professionals work together as a team. This system will never get approval from the FAA. For very good reasons. Greets from the 747-8 cockpit. R

Obviously has never flown. Idiot

PastTime777 hilarious! Do you realize most controllers aren’t pilots? Furthermore flying fpv is extremely challenging too. I would rather see ballistic parachutes added to more general aviation planes. That would be a realistic idea.

@@1compaqedr8 Flying FPV ??? LPV you mean??
@1compaqedr85 жыл бұрын
@@maxou5757 FPV as in first person view. That was in reference to the original person's idea of an air traffic controller flying an aircraft remotely, similar to model airplanes that are flown FPV through video goggles.

I give it 10 years until airlines stop regularly hiring pilots.

Benny Kim yeah maybe I’m over estimating it but it’s very unlikely that planes will be carrying hundreds of passengers pilotless in our life time because this will not be as simple as a automatic car because there can be a lot of unpredictable things when flying a plane so maybe they will come out with an almost fully automated plane with atleast one pilot present at all times instead of two which can help lack of pilots issue

So much paying over $90K for flight training when all we pilots will all soon be replaced..

The next step to completely eliminating pilots. What could possibly go wrong?

An accident blamed on software with no one admitting fault and years of senate hearings...

David Comarow a lot of stuff that is why I don’t think pilots are gone anytime soon so much stuff can go wrong and people are coming to notice it ESPECIALLY after the MAX crash

Any pilot who contributed to this installation has directly torpedoed the entire profession.
