The way I figured it out was by tying on a LARGE swimbait and watching how it shows up on the fishfinder. This allowed me to see the "radius" of the finder... and gave me a better understanding of where I need to place by lures to hookup with a fish based on where it appears on the fish finder. This was an awesome explanation. This took less than 8 minutes but really explained what was going on and why... which makes my test make even more sense.

Hey 1Cast 1Fish, can't tell you how excited we are to see such smart analysis! I especially loved you tackling the math problems (and later making fun of it). Thanks. but, you're killing me... Your explanation assumes the boat is moving? and at a consistent speed? Why not say that? And what happens if your boat is in one place, and a fish swims by? Arrrrghhh. Could you tell me what a fish looks like if you're parked and waiting for a fish to swim by? So confused, and grateful at the same time. All best. Very inspiring.

Thank you for these videos! Super helpful. I think I understand that if a fish enters the cone from ANY direction, it will show the same 2D image in the screen. So if my boat is stationary, and if a fish enters the cone, and makes a 90° turn directly under the transducer, it would paint the same image as if the fish swam straight through the cone. I wouldn’t then know which direction to cast but would know there is a fish near by that just left the cone width.
@1Cast1Fish Жыл бұрын
In general that would all be correct, some things could alter the results some as there are always other variables at play as well. However this would be a good basic understanding.

Given that the sonar is a cone, how do you know if a fish is swimming Starboard to Port or Bow to Stern.
@1Cast1Fish Жыл бұрын
Age old question, and the reason we now have side and down view sonar along with 360 imaging and live scope. It is extremely difficult to know with only 2D sonar.
@1Cast1Fish Жыл бұрын
One thing that is useful is with 2D sonar knowing your cone size, you can at least get a general idea of how far the fish maybe. Generally actual cone size is kinda shocking how small it may be especially in shallow water.
