I've been enjoying using the Daily Suggested Workouts on my watch (FR955). It will show the next week's worth of training there and typically this is offering up the kind of sessions I'd normally expect. The sessions are based on a target race I've set in Garmin Connect and it shows base > build > peak, etc phases. Again, as I would expect in any good plan. One feature I really like is that it automatically adjusts the plan if I go off piste and over (or under) do a session. So, for a lot of folks, I would expect this kind of training to be far better than from some downloaded/book plan as the Garmin suggestions are based on the individual's observed performance, rather than just be generic session. The Garmin also will "auto-correct" if you have additional time off due to illness/work/family or inkury. Still, I think a good human coach will always be preferable to anything a watch could suggest!

Thanks for watching. The FR955 is a solid piece of kit, with price to match! I had heard the the FR watches do what you have said and that is what i wanted to demonstrate in a part 2 of this video, but sadly not available on my Enduro and not even sure if available on Enduro 2. As you say, for many runners, they would need to be told to slow down or pick up based on previous workouts, which if just following a strict off shelf plan, could result in injury. I agree, there is not a replacement to a top human coach, as they are with their weight in gold! Have you used the suggested workouts all way through to a race yet?

Cheers Donato. A marathon video indeed but I did enjoy it. Super dedication to stick at it, despite the flooding issues. To answer the question you asked. 1- Interesting but I'd have no desire at all to do this. Too much messing about and too much uncertainty of what the training on that that particular day would be. Prefer to just run on feel myself. 2- No, I don't find it difficult to run slow, unless it's ridiculously slow. 3- The knee niggle could easily be the shoes, rather than the workload. Many people struggle in trail shoes and only wear them when they have no choice. Thanks again. I'll look forward to part 2. Ps. (9:50). Was your running top expensive? Lots of tops claim to be waterproof but are not.
@PoetWithPace Жыл бұрын
Indeed a marathon video Colin and thanks for watching all the way through! The Goretex running top was indeed expensive even at over 50% was around £80. It does keep me bone dry and works a treat. Bought it straight after Boston marathon 2018, from a recommendation from fellow Boston marathon finisher that year as we both swore not to get as soaked during a marathon like that again!

I just ran in the new ASICS MAGIC 2 shoes. There was not much of an arch so I put in inserts. They feel ok. I must say...I do get a better feel in the Nike...a bit more of a bounce. I felt a tad tired today as had a tougher interval run yesterday. I plan to try them again without the inserts...they may take a while to break in. Thanks for your videos...this old dude appreciates them. Going to Hollywood Saturday night at Musso and Franks...will keep you in mind if I see a friend in the know.

Thanks for the feedback. If you are used to the Nike arch support, then ASICS shoes will feel very different, with the Nike foam being different also. Having not tried the Magic Speed 2 i can't comment on how stiff they are, but with a full carbon plate, i would guess, more stiff than my current Magic Speed!

Running slow and easy is a bit difficult for me as a very beginner runner. Your recovery is my max tempo, My base run is right over 10 min/km which is so slow that a couple of people (walking for excercise) have actually walked passed me. I do the suggested workour from BPM, not speed. I've just gotten to the point where I'm able to actually run the entire time, and not walk inbetween. So progress!
@PoetWithPace2 ай бұрын
Great to hear about your progress and thank you for sharing. Are you training for any events?
@IngriddenDigre2 ай бұрын
@@PoetWithPace Not really. Just to get up to 10 K. I'm trying the daily challanges, with this week adding some extra hillrunning. I live quite close to work, with a steep hill between. So when I can match my base runs with a round about way to work, I jog up that hill on my way home. It only takes 13-14 min to jog home, and I'm quite pleased with my progress. Last winter I had to take breaks walking up the hill. Two months ago, I didn't want to think about hill running, now I'm exited because I can manage! I've also lost 15 kg during that time, so it's less weight to run with. That's diet related, I'm actually using the jogging as a way to measure my results, not the other way around. My VO2Max is still quite low. It went from 35 to 36 right after I started the daily challenges instead of the running coach. I've done the daily challenge (missing some days because of other things going on) since the end of July. I therefore didn't expect you, with your high VO2Max score would see any change there. But seeing as this video is over 1 year old, perhaps you continued and have had a change?
@PoetWithPace2 ай бұрын
@@IngriddenDigre whilst my VO2 doesn’t change much it does go up and down depending on my training schedule. Best of luck to you with your training and hope my videos here continue to help 👍🏼

My f7 gives an adherence score at the end, also found it works best when I have a race planned in the calendar and the suggested workouts build me up to that race, you can see a weeks suggested workouts in advance

The 'base' it keeps suggesting are similar to 'foundation runs' in fitzgeralds 80/20 model, pretty good.. if you followed this long term it would keep you ticking over nicely, like you I never train to pace so would take some getting used to!

I use the suggested workouts on my Enduro 2 as a base for my training Donato and I find them very useful. At close to the same age as yourself (I am 63) but not at your level I do find the suggested sprints paces hard (around 3:20 per K pace, and for further example my suggested threshold pace is 5 min per K pace). I did notice that you said your sprints were for 100m but I am sure it was showing a time of 10 seconds not a distance. Your channel is one of my favourites as you are around the same age as myself and therefore an inspiration for what is achievable at the age of 60+.

That is interesting to hear Gary. I tend to focus on my easy breathing and the form takes care of itself as i shorten my strides to keep at slow pace, but cadence is pretty much same as a steady run. Have you tried that?
