I have been using an eTrex 10 for a few years now and just beginning to realize it's potential. I am enjoying it but can see myself upgrading to a 20 soon. Great product in my view.

I've had an eTrex way back when, one of the early models, might get one of these for my next trip to Tahoe. A lot of people do not realize that their cell phone and google maps will stop working once you're out of reach of cellphone towers, which is pretty much everywhere in the great outdoors. These things will keep working as they rely on satellites. If you get really lost you can always find your way back to wherever you started from.

That's not true. Smart phones have real GPS receivers just like a Garmin handheld here. You can even download apps and see which satellites you are receiving (I use GPS Test on my android phone). Cellular provides additional accuracy improvements. If your cell phone maps stop working when you aren't on cellular, it's because you didn't download the maps for offline use, a limitation any GPS handheld has as well. You can try it right now by turning on airplane mode on your phone, and your GPS will still work since GPS is unidirectional and your phone can just passively receive GPS signals without transmitting anything from its radios. Right now my phone is showing the exact same satellites my Garmin Dakota is receiving, except my phone can also see GLONASS satellites while my Dakota can't. That being said, my Dakota is still a better unit for outdoor use as it's more rugged and has better battery life.

I keep reading customer complaints about the size of the data files and the fact that you must buy a Micro SD for the unit to properly store or update all maps. I'm only going to a few places in the US that have been mapped out for decades. I've also read that leaving breadcrumbs or setting certain points, is difficult.

Thank you for your question. Yes, you can save Waypoints, Tracks, and Routes. You can also navigate saved tracks and routes, as well as navigate to saved waypoints. Thank you for your question. Yes, on the "map page" you can use the toggle and arrow to select a location. You then have the option to save that location as a waypoint and/or navigate to it. I hope this helps.

Wouldn't it be great if Garmin came out with a 5G cell phone that has a powerful built-in GPS too. This way we could navigate even when we don't have cell service on our phone. I'd love an all-in-one GPS/Cell Phone.

You could use apps like OsmAnd on your iOS/android-device for offline navigation. Depending on which device you are using the precision is not going to be as good as a dedicated GPS device but will be sufficient for basic navigation

I have an eTrex 32X. And I find its odometer data is not accurate. Once the odometer shows 32 kms but the true distance is about 19 kms. I don't know why.
