I will always have respect for my magneto. Its been great but I am looking forward to eventually getting a garmin and not having to worry about strapping anything to the barrel / suppressor.

I was thinking the same thing, I have nothing but great experience with my Magneto, I am not a fan of it being strapped on the muzzle and coming loose every 3-4 shots.
@krapul0075 ай бұрын
Other problem with the magneto: it changes your barrel harmonics. So if you shoot bench rest or x long range the precision has to be tested separate from velocity. Twice as much ammo.

Just finally gave up trying to stick with my LabRadar. I’ve had it for years and have used it with decent results but it’s so picky and finicky that even though I’m experienced with it I STILL can’t get a full series of 10 shots in without losing connection/missing shots as of recently. It’s so stressful having a family and needing to optimize range time I finally pulled the trigger on the garmin. Thanks for your review brother. And thank you for speaking openly of your faith! Thank God for the precious blood of Jesus!!

It is pretty easy to use, and I have always got it to read as long as I did everything I was supposed to like to turn it on. Lol! Thank you! I bought a Garmin last week for a Bday present for myself, and brought it up to our Kids house Sunday w/a .177 pellet(8gr.), a rolled up pc of foil(1gr.) and a plastic straw. While the Garmin did not give a velocity, it detected every "shot". Good enough for me. It's a lot smaller than my old unit, which still works, but a pain to set up. Will be testing it at a range next week w/a couple long (8" & 9.5")bbl .44 mags. Be safe!

That Garmin is impressive and it's not really that much more expensive than the Magneto Speed. I've never been interested in the Magneto Speed because I don't want anything attached to my barrel as I'm doing load work-up. That Garmin seems to be worth the added expense. Great comparison video. God Bless and Happy New Year.

Your videos are obviously the product of a lot of work and thought and are very much appreciated. My Garmin should be arriving today. If it works as well for me, I’d say for the person who doesn’t have the money to save up until you do. It is more expensive to purchase an optical chronograph, find it to be clumsy and unreliable, and then get a Garmin.

I am brand new to precision rifle. I started in 2019. I bought a Lab Radar in 2020. It was my first time ever using a chronograph. I was inexperienced and out shooting alone. I set it up. I had to bring an external battery because I didn't like the fact it used so many AA's. Not a big deal. To me that was the obvious decision. Then I found it very difficult to get shots with my 6.5 PRC 147g ELD's. I found myself out there with my nose in the manual. I found myself constantly moving the unit around. I want to say I spent about 45 minutes or an hour going through the manual and moving it around. Finally, I started getting some readings. But then, all of a sudden, randomly I would not get a reading. And sometimes, I would forget to arm it. Needless to say, I didn't like the experience. I was a complete newbie with no prior knowledge of any chronograph and I just didn't like this unit. So I sold it after using it twice. Then I bought the MagneetoSpeed about a year ago. Then, I learned how the Magneetospeed creates POI shifts. So just last week, I decided I was going to bite the bullet and buy another Lab Radar for Load Development. But then I discovered this Garmin Unit just before I was about to buy! This unit is a true blessing and this is a great time for a new shooter to be getting into this discipline. The Lab Radar made me feel like I was doing everything wrong and that I was not enough of a Pro to be doing this sport. It turns out now I see it wasn't just me! I ordered my Garmin last week and it should be here at the end of January. I like the Area 419 arm that attaches to the ARCA rail too.

I have a LabRadar Lite (short-term solution they sold w/o Bluetooth when BT chips were nowhere to be found outside of phones and computers). Its large and I almost bought a new one w/Bluetooth, but I decided against because it wasn't that necessary. Now, the LabRadar does have a setting that allows to be triggered by the projectile and it works for about 15% of shots. This comparatively tiny Garmin unit is worth every penny and demonstrates what happens when you allow your product to stagnate because you are the only player. Now LabRadar has a lot of catching up to do! I will definitely upgrade to the Garmin and sell my LabRadar.

Garmin seems to be a great unit. Small and lightweight is great. Price a bit high for now. I will wait to buy one as they will most definitely release a 2.0 model with new features etc based upon feedback. I’ve seen side by side tests before and Magneto reads faster speeds than LabRadar. Yesterday I got an error that I haven’t seen covered anywhere (not even in the manual): “POSSIBLE INTERFERENCE DETECTED. MOVE AWAY FROM LIKELY SOURCES: FANS, HVAC, FLUORESCENT LIGHTS, OTHER RADARS OBSTRUCTED VIEW.” I was by myself at an open range during day time, the only electric/electronic devices close by were my cellphone and my ear protection (I turned it off and didn’t see the message anymore, but this could be a coincidence). The range is next to a highway and many trucks have short range radios… (the type that makes speakers go nuts) I also got some low velocity “ghost shots” with the unit calibrated for subsonic pistol rounds even when there were no rounds going down range. With rifles, it worked flawlessly from .22lr to 44 magnum.

I have a Labradar. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. I’ve missed shots mostly due to the misplacement of the muzzle and the shot not recording. I just got a trigger for mine. We’ll see how that works. As for repeatedly resetting the Labradar for those missed shots above 4000fps in this video , the unit has a limitation of 3900fps at the top end. I’m not apologizing for it, you just have to understand each unit’s limitations and features to decide which one you want to use. If I were to buy another one I’d probably get the Garmin as my first choice and then the Labradar as my second. The Magnetospeed while a great option isn’t feasible for me as it won’t work well with rifles that have little to no barrel protrusion beyond the fore-stock (I’m talking about you Mr. SMLE). I still have my Shooting Chrony as a backup.

Great to see this info from you. I waited when I heard about the Garmin, ended up getting 1 of the first batch from Area419 on the release day. To me, it's been perfect. I don't have a need for the down range speeds the Lab Radar can do, so for my use it's the way to go. I am noticing that the Lab seems to have consistently slower speeds shown. Is that something I need to consider when using my Garmin? Or better to just trust the info I get from my Garmin and use it for my Kestrel data? In my mind, as long as I'm using the same chrono I should have the same consistency in readings for my own uses. I am getting started on my own loads for my PRS rifle, so I am hoping that just trusting the Garmin will give me the comparative speeds I need to find my best powder charge for my rifle. If you get a chance, let me know what you think. I figure I am good to go and just get out and use it, but confirmation from you with your many years of experience and knowledge would be great. I hope your 2023 was great and you and your family have an awesome 2024!! Thanks for all you do and I have had a good time this last week showing off my CPS on my little videos as I'm starting this load work for my 6 Creedmoor. The comments are good, they like your tool!
@primalrights Жыл бұрын
Personally, I would trust the numbers the Garmin gives. If you notice in my video, the Garmin and the Magnetospeed agreed very closely with each other quite frequently, while the number the labradar gave was often quite a bit off from those two, in comparison. I have had very good luck trusting the numbers the Magnetospeed puts out, and so with the Garmin reading out very similar numbers... that leads me to believe the garmin is fairly adept at providing actual functional muzzle velocities for use in our ballistic solvers. Thanks for your promotion of the CPS on your channel. I'll have to go take a look at the videos. Perhaps give me a call at the shop during the week sometime for a conversation.
@ChadKelly7 Жыл бұрын
@primalrights Thanks for the confirmation! I was noticing Magneto and Garmin very close, likely not enough difference to miss a PRS target if I do my part right! Still working on that 🤣. 4 matches into my journey and working on my mistakes between each match! Lots to learn still of course. I am trying to document it all with a match review video and pointing out what I notice my biggest issues were, then working to correct them before the next match. Then find the next 2 or 3 glaring mistakes I make and work on those. I will get it all pulled together in the next months of practice!! It is fun! I should also tell you, for some reason the video I made about cleaning with rice kinda blew up for me! It was one of my earliest videos this year and I think I need to do an updated, more refined version, but people still find it and comment. I really appreciate that tip you guys gave me when I was very new to this. If I can, I will try to call in to you. Probably have to try next week, though. I work Tuesdays thru Saturdays, my weekend Sundays and Mondays. Maybe I can get a chance to call ya the 8th. I figure everyone will take this Monday the 1st to relax and recharge for the coming year. I do want to get more info on the Prime Where and figure out when I should be looking to add that tool to my bench for added precision. I mentioned it in my last video, where I tried to show the poor man's version by using a caliper to attempt to get pocket depth. Not nearly as accurate I'm sure!! I appreciate your response. It gives me more confidence in my decision to go with the Garmin!! I hope you and the family have a blessed weekend and 2024!!

Read a bit about Labradar and been on the fence after reading some online reviews! Very interested in Labradar new small chronograph as well as Garmin. Make sense the original large Labradar unit doesn’t pickup lead projectiles but didn’t think about it until you pointed it out! I’m not sure about their new small unit soon to be available has same issue? Nonetheless your video definitely helps me to decide between Garmin and new smaller Labradar, thanks!
