Adventurous routing is my favorite feature. Just route to whatever POI you want then hit adventure button then move the slide left for less adventure and right for more then hit go. Quadlock with the vibration dampener, wireless charger and a drone hood. It’s basically replaced my GPS, quick camera, rider perspective camera, log book, voice recorder for diary and much more. It’s nice to have one device you can voice control to navigate, listen to music and all that good stuff.
@roolebo2 жыл бұрын
Quad lock kit like this is worth 3/4 of Zumo’s price. You need to get: 1. A case for your phone or universal adapter 2. Wireless charging head 3. Vibration damper 4. Handlebar mount 5. 12V to USB adapter This would be around $300. And it’s just a mount system, without device cost.
@Kavika-xh1qj2 жыл бұрын
@@roolebo look at it objectively. I have 4 motorcycles, 2 vehicles and a boat. Not to mention 10 bicycles. And a drone. By using the quadlock, I can transfer my device as I switch vehicles or activity. I use the same nav apps on my bicycle car or on foot. One device to rule them all. The quadlock let’s you transfer from vehicle to vehicles to home, no fuss. The phone case is a very good one, and you need a case anyway. You need to buy mounts regardless. Might as well buy a mounting system that gives you 100% flexibility. Getting one more electronic device that does just one thing, is not economical, it’s more things to buy, update, keep track of. And my phone gets better and better every year. All I have to do is get a new phone case and I’m back in business. Meanwhile the nav has no solution against obsolescence. I’m still using quadlock mounts I purchased in 2017. I started using them with an IPhone 7, I’m on the 13 now.

It is the best standalone NAV for ADV riding, but it has so many issues with BT connections, and I can't use "OK google" with a Cardio unit connected directly to the XT. I just bought a new Zumo XT and couldn't get the unit to charge the internal battery. Two days of trying several cables and chargers could only get the charge to barely into the green and immediately would sink back into the yellow then red. So, the unit had to be returned. I bought it through Cabela's on line and I'm guessing because Cabela's doesn't stock the unit it is drop shipped from Garmin and Cabela's will not accept a return on this item. That is a bite. So, called Garmin and received a return UPS label. The situation is considered a warranty claim and I fear I'm going to get a used unit that was been recycled. That sucks.

Great review man! One thing I picked up on was that one of your nit-picks was that the XT didn't have any external temp. However, I've watched other reviews, (Cruiseman' Garage specifically) that showed an ambient temp readout on top bar, so maybe its just a display option that needs to be enabled? I've been in the market for a GPS that I can use on my 1290 for road adventures but also swap over to the 950 for off road fun and I think your review just pushed me over the top. Thanks again. Next time you and "Mr. XLADV" are in my neck of the woods we'll need to go for a rip around the mountains...
@backcountryadvmoto2 жыл бұрын
I’ll take a look. The only external air temperature thing that I found is the one from the Weather app that is on there that shows the temperature but you have to have some type of phone or Wi-Fi service to be able to have that to work. But I’ll definitely take a look and see if maybe it’s a display capability that is disabled

My argument against that is you always want to have your gps tracker on your person in case of a situation where you might be thrown from the bike and injured/unable to move
@backcountryadvmoto2 жыл бұрын
I agree with that. If the injury is bad enough, chances are you will not be able to get back to the bike so an inreach capable device is on you is better. the nice thing about pairing it to the XT is that if someone messages you on your in inreach when you are in the backcountry , it will pop up on the XT.

When I bought my GSA, I sprung for the Garmin Nav6. Little did I know that it was going to be so cumbersome and non-intuitive. For the most direct way of uploading specifically designed route-tracks, Basecamp is the preferred source. It has a STEEP and lengthy learning curve and Garmin no longer supports it. I've since moved over to MRA and use their companion MRA Navigator with offline maps on my android for roadwork. I don't like using my phone for the very reasons you outlined. If the ZUMO XT was sufficiently smooth to use for MRA GPX uploads, I'd consider using one full time.

Haha no not even close. That was from riding my ADV bike like a dirt bike. Doesn’t quite handle the same 😂

Just 1 question, does it support every country or just USA or European?

Here is a link to the garmin website. Here you will find a tool where you can search by continent and region to see if your map is available to download www.garmin.com/en-US/p/679804#maps

Been a few months since you did this great review. Is everything still working as it should? I see lots of complaints on FB about trouble when it rains, trouble with power connection, concerns about the unit bouncing loose. Also, have your tried to use it in your car? I used my old 550 (before it bricked) in my truck and on my bike, sometimes on each one in the same day. You mentioned a wireless camera feed, would this be a good alternative to mounting a gopro for scenery shots? Hey, thanks for the review.

I can't speak for use in the car, but it has performed 100% flawless for me. Ive used it in the rain, snow, mud and everything in between and love it. I use the locking mount from Touratech to keep it secure from sticky fingers when parked, but haven't haven't heard of anyone having one come loose with the factory mount.

Question: How can you get a route to a location without a street address?
@backcountryadvmoto2 жыл бұрын
You can either press and hold on the map at any point and it will create a route to that location, or enter in a coordinate if you have that

Thanks! I was thinking only the 276 and 478 series had that capability.

You know the Zumo xt Will not leave a way point On the fly like the 276cx I have both gone back To the 276cx. You should Figure out how to leave A way point on the fly I call Garmin and they said It will not do that

Whoever you talked to at garmin is wrong. All you do is long press the screen and it will leave a way point where your finger presses.

My understanding is the screen will jump when in navigation mode when it is raining or rain droplets hit the screen. Can anyone confirm this? If this is true, see this as a huge issue and wish Garmin would have locking function by simple one button activation so screen wouldn't jump rendering GPS map useless. Anyone experience this?
@backcountryadvmoto2 жыл бұрын
No I have not had that issue at all. I have ridden in rain, snow, had it covered in mud and dust with no issues

I kinda wish I bought this one over the BMW Nav 6. The Nav 6 has reliability issues.
@backcountryadvmoto2 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard several people say that. There is a company that makes a conversion plate that allows you to use the Zumo XT with your factory GPS mount and connection.

@@backcountryadvmoto I'll have to look into that. Do you have a link to that mount by chance? I'd definitely consider switching over.
