Manchester United head to Selhurst Park tomorrow afternoon, in a big game against Crystal Palace. We’re currently 10th in the Premier League, with 2 wins and 2 losses. Palace come into this one having drawn 2 and lost two of their last league matches. They haven’t started as well as some might have expected of them, they’re currently 16th. Their coach Oliver Glasner has started very well with them, but it seems there’s still an adjustment period to be had after pre-season, they’ve been pretty unlucky to not register at least one win up to this point. Here is my tactical preview for the game...

You can’t make a case for a player to start based on a game against Barnsley. Casemiro has to prove in PL games, that he can be trusted. Also what do you mean, “one more opportunity for Amad?” He’s been one of our best players this season.

Personally think that at some point this season we need to pull Mainoo back, send him off for a week in the sun and operate with Ugarte, Mount and Bruno which would be plenty quality legs and ability to press with a great way to control or transition whilst we look after Mainoo worried we having to give him too many games and don’t want him to be a player who breaks down over the years. Garna gives the opposition no breathing room off the bench, amad doesn’t apply that shock value so stick with it. Gives us options and levels of intensity to apply to the opposition. Some games will be better for Garnacho to start across the season

For now Garnacho should come on from the bench, this way we dont put extra pressure on him and keep him fit enough for the whole season, also this can be kind of a push/test for Rashford to deliver, gradually over the season we can start garnacho if Rashford continues to blank

Garnacho had a whole season to play and show us what he has, and despite scoring some good goals and few assists, he isn't a finished product. It's Amad's turn to show us what he can do and so far he has massively impressed. Forget the goals, he's a heavy teamplayer, technical and ability to improve the whole team and make us actually play like city arsenal and liverpool. He truly needs more time to truly see his real potential.

@crysflake we did not concede possession to Liverpool. They had less than 60% possession for most of the game. That game swung some key mistakes by us, but they did not dominate us. I was thinking more like City or Arsenal maybe. Teams that religiously get over 60% possession. I'm not saying play like that all the time, but even Sir Alex changed to a more defensive style a few games a season like Chelsea away, Liverpool away and Arsenal away. Then some Europe away legs. ETA: I'm saying we should not play them both this game because we should not be conceding possession to them.

I think the defence picks itself. I like the "headaches" in midfield and attack. I think it means we now have enough depth for Ten Hag to start to shoulder tap someone Fergie style and say "I'm going to start you against Twente, which means you'll be on the bench against Palace." and vice versa. We have not had that for so so long.

I think you made a good summary of the teams. Although the palace wingers are very good and much will come from them. Having mainoo and Ugarte in midfield will hopefully prevent the supply to the palace wingers but Ugarte has to be careful in his aggressive play as sets pieces could be challenging for us. It's quite simple for me: We need Rashy for his goal threat and ability to run the channels also seems to have a good link up play with Zirkzee We need Zirkzee to help us overload the midfield, keep the ball and link our attack as well as to create space for the wingers. We need Amad for his mix and blend of cutting inside and going on the outside, linking up play in and around the box as well as his ability to play off of his teammates. Those 3 should start Midfield is tricky I don't know there tbh 😅

This is who I think Ten Haag will select: Rashford Zirkzee Amad Fernandez Ugarte Casemiro Dalot Martinez de Ligt Mazraoui Onana Subs: Bayindir, Evans, Maguire, Collyer, Mainoo, Erikson, Garnacho, Keeper and back four pick themselves at the moment. Collyer did well at LB but he doesnt offer the same kind of support to Rashford as Dalot. Palace away is always a feisty game and they are a physical team therefore, as well as Erikson played against Barnsley, Casemiro's physicality, nous and shithousery make him the better fit. I dont think Ten Haag will risk starting both Ugarte and Mainoo together and expect Ugarte to start, but if he is struggling and/or on a booking Collyer would be a solid replacement from the bench. Ideally you'd want Ugarte to be a bit sharper than he looks atm before starting him in a game like this but Mainoo hasn't looked that impressive so far this season, the Palace midfield would probably try and rough him up and hes on 3 bookings already, I expect Zirkzee to drop deep and help alleviate the pressure and Bruno to take up an inside right position with Amad a bit more central but with a lot of interchanging between them. I think the first goal will be hugely important to the outcome of this game; if Palace take the lead early doors United will struggle to come away with more than a single point but if we can get to half time at 0 - 0 or a goal up Id fancy our chances to snatch a late win but If it were down to me I'd drop Bruno, who isnt as press resistant as Zirkzee, to the bench, start Collyer in a double pivot and use Dalot, Mazraoui to overlap when possible and Casemiro and Zirkzee to beat Palaces midfield press. Marcus and Garnacho (to come off the bench) to score in a hard fought 2 - 1 win for United with multiple bookings and more knocks.

Eriksen is not combative or defensive and should not be sitting deep IMO, Yes, with easier opposition he can play that midfield role but I think he is better further up the field. In tougher games, i would like to see Ugarte and Casemiro together (Cementing that midfield) and Eriksen, Bruno or Mainoo can be ahead of them. But yea there are a few options

Not sure Ugarte will start. I think you start Casemiro and Mainoo. We cant spend two years talking about Eriksen needing "one game a week" then start talking about him playing him back to back after a good game against Barnsley.. Ugarte will be making his first "Proper" start in the EPL, think he needs to be eased in a bit. He looks like he wants to make a name for himself. And he might go a bit heavy early doors. Bring him on for the second half. The idea of dropping Rashford seems mental. Ten Hag has continued to pick him through poor form for basically a year. Dropping him now he's confident would be like shooting him in the knee. I think ten Hag still maintains the belief that Marcus is a frustrated centre forward... don't be surprised to see Garnacho Left, Amad Right and Rashford through the middle.

Ste, when it comes to your analysis and opinion, you do you, but I write this as a huge fan of the channel, for all the praise and positive comments you dish out for Rashford and Dalot, there are also extremely poor parts of their games too, and this isn't the odd game, this is near enough every game. Time to start talking about the good and the bad of the players you talk about, and not just ignore the bad. When you chose Dalot, you stated that "he's got alot of assets that wr really like", he also has alot of assets that we really don't like, the main one being his lack of defensive awareness as a defender and clumsiness have but the team under unnecessary pressure many many times, but that's never been spoken about by you, and I wonder why that is. You're fair and honest about alot of what you talk about, but I feel that you have a clear bias when it comes to certain or possibly all United players, you seem to have an aversion to criticising united players even if it's honest and constructive.

Garnacho is way too raw to be considered our best player imo. Not sure hes even in our top 5 for me. Amad, Licha, Bruno and Mainoo are better and more important for us than Garnacho. You have the likes of Rashford who has done more overall and has previously hit a level that I doubt Garnacho will ever hit for us. Signings like Mazraoui and de Ligt already look mega and has elevated us a lot more than Garnacho has.

My biggest worry is the law of averages. There is very little chance that Palace will lose or not win any of their first 5 games of the season. This could be the one where they scrap for a result to get their first win so it is not as easy as some of these predicted scores I have been seeing doing the rounds on various fan channels. I don't like the fact we have not got a settled 11 and new players are either yet to play with others in the squad and are seeing each other on the pitch for either the first or second time. Also, not necessarily this game but can Hoijlund play with Zirk beside/behind him to create for him, where does bruno play because I don't Like him out wide, maybe in CM beside Kobs but in tougher games Ugarte will likely be needed
