I've spoke with Dawn over the years on and off , she is indeed a lovely lady , However Dawn does not have experience with any other brand , Dawn started like most of us with ace 250 , from there to A.T pro , A.T max which she bought with her own money , when the Apex dropped Garrett sent her a unit ( on loan ) which had to be returned later , I'd bet money that the vortex is the same deal . I'd suspect a N.D.A as she wasn't allowed show the screen or let us hear the Audio . But to sum up Dawn has only used Garretts from the beginning .

Not sure if it's brand loyalty or just the simplicity of the older Garretts , who knows . It's probable that she'll return to the A.T max after the loan agreement runs dry , that certainly was the case with the Apex .

I used to watch digger Dawn and it soon became clear that she's a total amateur and has only ever used garret machines, which are the worst brand of metal detectors on the market and I've used them all over the 30 odd years that I've been detecting in the uk.

Dawn is indeed a lovely lady but she is a brand loyalist, with a clear bias stemming from her sponsorship and exclusivity to Garrett products. As far as I am aware she has never used any other brand? Her connection with Garrett and the UK Garrett distributor reflects a conflict of interest, as her financial or promotional ties to Garrett discourage impartiality and constructive critique. There is also a certain level of tribalism in defending the brand at all costs, potentially at the expense of honest discussions in the metal-detecting community. By attacking independent testers such as yourself CB, she is prioritizing loyalty to the brand over the broader interests of the community or consumers who are seeking unbiased insights. It's that old crowd mentality that seems to pervade metal detecting these days. And I think the brands stoke all this up. That is why they give away free machines to their loyal promoters/followers. If you are getting a free machine and being made to feel like you are "part of the team" then of course you are not going to highlight any failings in the machine. Just keep doing what you do CB. It keeps the industry honest and lets the rest of us hold these companies to account👍

I have personally been with CD on many occasions while testing and comparing various detectors and I can tell you that he is a straight up honest man!!! He gives the facts and there is NO sneaky crap in how he does his testing. CD has integrity!!!

I just watch there faces! I remember screaming from rooftops how the Minelab Equinox 800 was a Complete game changer when it hit the market late 2017! How it would transform the industry from VLF machines to Multi at a fairly affordable price! Watching a lot of the top channels start to use them was the funniest! It was like a alien ray gun was put at there feet! I would laugh at some of the comments " I don't know about this" or "everything sounds good" that's because they missed so much with those old school tech and outdated machines! Calabash your not a embarrassment! you speak the truth and deliver a honest review! I bet if you had a beer summit with the Chigs and the Digger Dawns, Brandons and nugget noggins they would tell you the truth that Garrett is fallen behind! The Vortex has caused a storm of controversy. It's so good that we are having a conversation about brand-loyal youtubers leading people down the wrong path. It's okay to go out and have fun with your metal detector and take a camera to show people what a good time you are having. Been detecting for over 53 years, l mainly hunt with the Deus 2 and the Manticore. I bought the Deus 2 after watching Calabash. Why would i hunt with anything else unless it will beat those two machines.

I’ve been detecting for about 32 years and am currently using the D2. But it is not without its faults. The rc precariously mounted on the stem and constantly falling off causing after market fixes. I bought it as an all terrain machine and the antenna is a pain in the ass. Having said that, it is one of the go to detectors for advanced users that are going after fringe depths or unmasking in extreme trash. For many hobbyists, the Garrett machines is more than adequate for their scope of detecting. I own a Garrett and have had a lot of success with it. Garrett has been a leading innovator over the years and is a very large manufacturer. Don’t count them out. This is all good discussion.

They really are doing a disservice to the MD community . No experienced detectorist is going to buy their product for the purpose of detecting., why would you unless you want to dig tons of trash and get a lot less good finds.

How many users have the Garrett Carrot? Seems like everybody and their grandma. It will depend on how much emphasis that they want to put into their recreational metal detector division. In my 25 years of metal detecting and watching youtube video about metal detector , this chanel is doing the right thing by testing and comparing performance of detector like no one ever did and are not bias or paid to do so ... respect my friend and keep doing what you are doing. Garrett is the embarestment in the metal detecting industries by bringing low performance hight price metal detector with so many years they are in business and guess what they will be the next manufacturer closing down their doors if they don't listen to customer like you about how to improuve their tech and detector... Started out with a Fisher 1266 when they first hit the ground a long time ago in the early 90's and have gone through several machines in the past 30 plus years, Fishers, Whites,Teknetics, Deeptech, Rutus, Golden Mask, Nokta XP etc (No Minelabs yet, strange really) and have followed you over many years, your experience speaks for itself...I wouldn't worry what "Digger Garrett" Dawn" has to say, bless her....anyone deep in the game knows she has no real experience in the various machines and their abilities that have been available over the years. She is just sticking up for a brand, but has no real concept of its abilities to the current market developments. She's harmless and fun and should be taken as such....unfortunately, sometimes the truth hurts her. keep doing what your doing, and bringing us these unbiased tests and reviews 😉✌

In my opinion now, the biggest metal detector innovation in recent years was not multi frequency or a thousand multi tone options but was when Garrett Metal Detectors made popular the double D coil configuration. This innovation allowed the coil to only be affected by a narrow slice of ground mineralization but yet have maximum detection range into the soil the complete width of the coil, unlike the inverted cone detection of the concentric coil design. This allowed people that mostly hunt in relatively high mineralization ground to fully use their sensitivity and gain settings. Just a bit of history of Garrett’s contribution to recreational metal detecting.

sorry Chris but your mistaken Garrett did not create the DD coil configuration it was Minelab that introduced that back in the 1990s thats right 1990s Garrett was the first detector manufacturer to add imaging to a machine 1999 but that was there last great innovation!

My only question is take all the testers out of the equation, where was the internal Quality Control before this machine was released? Where I work we have to watch training videos on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) that stresses the importance of Quality and how it affects a company’s reputation…I hope they straighten out all the issues.

i was surprised how positive you were and feel like you were more than fair about the smurf. My experience with garrett, iv had aces and stuff but once bought a new at max when it came out instead of the equinox .. it was too heavy , extremley basic , iron audio was pointless feature that does nothing except confuse you (especially when looking for hammered coins in 2000 year iron infested ground) gives absolutley 0 advantage of seperation of the low conductive targets around iron ... machine was pretty much faulty wouldnt work properly with unstable results.. took it out 20 odd times for full days and it just wouldnt get signals other machines did , i sold it in the end .... just dated tec and no thought gone into them. it was a mis sold dream ... and here we are again ... garrett are toys to me ... where is there real pro machines ..they dont exist

Calabash at some point could you do an update on the current top machines and where they are in terms of updates "needed" in your opinion. Is the Deus II still showing low VDI numbers like a 6 in certain scenarios and does the Manticore false more than the DII? Would you say it's fair that those two machines were released with 95 percent of all the "bugs" resolved to the public. If I recall you might have been one of the first to point out the Equinox 800 had issues with a coin on edge and that's been 5-6 years ago. Your also directly responsible for making my Legend the machine it is today. In fact, I'll go so far to say I won't purchase a machine unless it has been tested and reviewed by you or Iffy because I trust your methods and unbiased opinion.

If your buying and paying full price you need tester that tell the truth about that machine no just been a tester so they get a free metal detector and use once or twice and just lie about its performance that's what happened with apex

My X-Terra Pro beats the Vortex and is only $260 or less. The XTP beach modes must be multi frequency and I use them on land and surf 😊👍

@@Bertminator that literally makes NO sense. He compares ALL detectors & doesn’t just show the bad or good on one brand. This is what made his channel successful. I’m pretty sure he was simply replying to a comment made by another metal detecting KZbinr & explaining his point.
