Garrett does a disservice to the metal detecting hobby by intentionally hosing newbies with the ATPro line.They would rather pay a few of the big KZbin channels to push the outdated model instead of actually coming up with a replacement for the antique detector. Should be boycotted really.

Don't get nay sayers that actually watch your videos. I have been watching you for years putting machines through the paces, and the hard work and time it takes. To be honest before I get any detector I will watch your reviews first. You save alot of us the headaches and gambling on new machines, so with that thanks for what you do! Thanks for keeping it real Calabash. I just received my Vortex 3 days ago. Yes, the vdi is wonky. I was testing coins laying on ground, scrubbing coil against a merc dime, getting a hint of an iron tone. Weird stuff for sure. Sunday I’m going out all day to hunt with vortex, at my old park. I will definitely shoot videos of my experience. Thanks again for testing. Jon from Indiana

I completely agree that sponsored YT creators should not be the testers for any company, their content will almost always be biased. Even their private correspondence and feedback with the company will be skewed by their desire to keep their privilege's. And if they do showcase the detector online, all of their videos should contain a disclaimer that they are sponsored by the company. A lot of us know who they are, but equally there are many people who don't know and base their buying decisions on content that is quite often not truthful or accurate.

This is one of the problems with manufacturers throwing machines at KZbin creators and then those so called experts, saying yes this machine is the conquer of all, release it now, so what happens they believe and release.. We'll done big chap, done it again 👍😁👌

I think you do a good job of finding and pointing out problem areas.Your problem is is the same as the one I have on occasions. That is when you know your right and feel no one is listening you tend to get caustic with the message to try to get people to listen. Like my wife always tells me calm down and be a little more diplomatic with how you present it and more people will listen.

Couple quick thoughts - Great job Calabash on testing! Would be nice if the first update included numbers for the notch segments. There was a youtuber who was pretty big about 10-12 years ago who threw his new company sponsored metal detector in the water to show how "weatherproof" and durable it was. When I got mine I all excited and went out in very light rain and it died. Called the company they told me to go through the dealer and I got a replacement. The replacement lasted about 4 months before the speaker died and the pinpoint button quit working. I'm buying a new machine in March and there are 3 in the running. IF Garrett is committed to improving the machine it might get bought.

I hope The update fixes the missing target “zones” both from which the Vortex and Apex seem to suffer at least for the Vortex.

Glad to hear they will be updating the machine ! The VDI range is very very important to us coin shooters ! Those deep silvers have to be as accurate as possible when it comes to VDI.. Hopefully they will (up)average just a tad bit.. The deep silvers do and can drop in VDI ... Great great work ! This is why I usually wait atliest 1 yr to purchase a new detector so folks like you can test it out...Keep up the good work ! ✌️

Would also be nice to change the angle of the plug in cable to the box. Maybe angled lower at a 45 to relieve stress on the rubber pull-out saver on the plug. My Minelab 900 has a nice angle to it. Cheers mate!

There’s a guy with a KZbin channel who hunts in shallow water, maybe 6-8’, with a DScore. I believe he hunts shallow swimming areas of one of the Great Lakes. He doesn’t use headphones, because he says that the volume turned all the way up allows him to easily hear the built in speaker. Looks like that wouldn’t be possible with the Vortex, because the built in speaker drowns out under water.

With shipping laws in the U.S. and battery fires. They are probably required to ship with the battery nearly dead. Hence the initial long charging time. I'm not an electrical engineer but I wonder if they will make charge to like 85% and show full and then trickle charge the remaining? I've seen that before on testing equipment.

Alot of folks say ID does not matter to them at all,,that they go on tone alone. Personally I love great ID, I love super great ID with tones also! So does ID matter to you, or are you just a tone guy?

garrett made a big mistake making a hi pitch tone detector. Your ears will be ringing if you wear phones might even give you tinnitus! no joke.That detector will be a real hater after a while see if im wrong .The older garrets like the Ace had a much more pleasant bell tone

I think garrett rushed this machine to keep up with Nokta and Minelab's new machines over the summer, I'm not impressed, too many problems with it in my opinion, maybe gen 2 will be better, I never buy a first generation electronics, they're always full of bugs, (I buy lots of electronics for my radio stations all the time and learned that first hand), best advice is to wait till garrett fixes all the bugs and rolls out the vortex gen 2, maybe they'll add a set of headphones and extra coil for the money they charge for this machine, a color choice would be nice too, I hate bright colors on a detector, makes it look like a toy.

@@calabashdiggeradventures You're good at testing detectors and getting companies to update them, it looks like it could be a great detector, but I'm not impressed enough to switch from my Triple Score to a Vortex, no salt water beaches in Northern Ohio and my Triple Score is a Beast on the fresh water beaches along Lake Erie. Thank you for what you do with detectors, you help alot of people decide on what machines to get and you bring to light problems detectors may have.
