I'm so happy you're reacting to Stef Broks. He plays with such ease and finesse. Dont stop at this one, Laments of an Icarus and Singularity are some of my favorite drum vids on KZbin. It's an absolute shame Textures isnt a band anymore. Their discography is flawless and it still keeps me up at night that we wont get any new music from them :(

I am so glad you reacted to this! Textures are one of the more overlooked bands in the modern prog scene in my opinion. Yeah literally everyone says everyone is underrated but I truly believe these guys were special. Large part of my love for them is Broks himself who is, as you can see, a complete beast haha. Unlike let's say Postones, he loves to groove but he approaches it from a completely different angle, more death-metaly due to his insane footwork! Shame they broke up but I am so glad people are still discovering them. As for my recommendations, think you'll dig Adam Janzi, respect Ben Koller and love Kenneth Schalk! Oh and absolutely check out Dirk Verbeuren and his Dirk blasts, the guy literally invented his own style of blastbeats and it's nuts.

Ben & Converge definitely worth mentioning. You just mentioned Ken Schalk too from Candiria ooof. Dude was doing polyrhythms and insane syncopation for Metal before it became a thing along with MESHUGGAH who requested they open up their first show ever in New York. It was the hardcore punk guys who were the first to experience ‘SHUG and truly give them a welcome here in the states they moshed to their breakdowns 🤘🏽 But yeah Kenneth was unique in the sense that he didn’t do the typical kick drum riff sync in Metal yet he still grooved hard and served the songs well while being flashy.

Stef is definitely one of the best drummers in the prog-scene (and beyond that) and very underrated I think. Growing up with the Textures albums it really helped me look at drums differently in general, and how to utilize drums more like a musical rather than just a rhythmical tool. I decided to learn this song in order to improve my skills (cover video is on my channel!) and it helped me massively. But it only took me about 1.5 years or so to learn the fucking thing, but hey 😂😂 Also, go check out his Laments of an Icarus and Singularity playthroughs if you haven't yet!

You lucky bastard - I never had the chance the see the band live sadly... However, I saw Daniel, theyre last vocalist perform with a band he left to join Textures, which was sad because I think he fitted that band better, And because I think Erik is The vocalist of Textures. Oh, and that band came to my country twice so I saw them both times they were in my area, and I have to say that they were a pretty kickass mathcore band - I got their first and only cd, shirt, some posters and stickers, which I still have to this day. Crazy to think it was 10 years ago...

First Textures song I ever heard was "Timeless" and I still remember getting goosebumps at the intro, with that delayed-sounding beat on top of the 5/4. @@doctajuice well, I wouldnt call it a monster of a part, but is quite awesome.
