I’m a licensed cosmetologist, and honestly it came out a lot more even than I thought it would. You didn’t do a bad job!! But if you want it to be lighter you need to do another round of bleach because purple shampoo won’t make it lighter, it will simply neutralize the brassy color in your hair. Also since you were confused about not putting it on your roots first, the reason you put it on the rest of your hair first and not the roots right away is because the heat from your scalp will make the roots process faster, which will make it lighter than the rest of your hair if you put it all on at once. But it lightened pretty evenly 😊 For a first timer, you did pretty good!

The hair looks great!! especally for not having any experience. I've been dying my hair for over 12 years, (since I was 8, thats crazy) and I'll never stop. Hi Garrett! I’m a licensed hairstylist, I absolutely love this light copper/strawberry blonde on you! But if you want a cooler toned blonde you can counter the brassy orange/copper tones with a blue tinted toner, but please don’t use box dyes as they aren’t regulated and can contain heavy metals that will be absorbed by your scalp. I’d say something from Sally’s beauty supply store like Wella Colorcharm toner in the color T28, or Ion white creme toner in Platinum pearl or platinum lace, or Bondbar in color cool ash or Smokey blonde. For a shampoo like toner I’d suggest Blonde Brilliance Temporary Color Care Cool Blond Lathering Toner. I look forward to your hair journey! I always watch your videos they always make me laugh, they help me keep going sometimes, keep being awesome and keep taking care of yourself.

Had the same “what am I doing I can’t do this I’m doing this I’m gonna be sorry about this its only hair for God’s sake it’ll be fine it’s probably gonna be great if its not I’m ok with a buzzcut” yarn ball of emotions. And it turned out great! It was so easy and it worked! Bless all you hairdressers who say we can’t do it at home, but yeah, no, we totally can. Mine came out super blonde like the box- my hair has always lightened really easily- and I did the crazy color thing after that. Lesson, like you said: life is short. Do something fun with your hair. It’s totally possible. Especially if you’re ok with a buzzcut, if worse comes to worst. But you’re probably gonna be fine.

Hey Garrett! Hair dresser here .. you did a dream job applying it evenly!!! It does look great!! A few tips just for reference if you want to go even blonder!! First start at the ends leave that on for 20ish mins then do you roots closest to your scalp. You probably didn't leave it on long enough or it was a lower developer. Either way that's ok!!! You always learn from experience, right? I'd suggest fanola shampoo from Amazon. I have white hair and I use it when I get brassy. I've used just about every purple shampoo out there. You'd probably be better off with a blue shampoo unless you go little lighter. Blue cancels orange and purple cancels yellow. Also you're hairs not that dark so if you put on a cap or even a plastic bag to keep the head warm it'll process a little faster. Mine takes 50mins. You can also try getting a powder and either a 20 vol developer or a 30 vol. Do not use 40 on scalp. You can also use a toner but thats a little more complicated then leaving on shampoo for 10 mins. Make sure you keep up with conditioning treatments so you keep your hair healthy!!! It looks so good and it looks very healthy!! I've seen alot worse on ppl who have experience so give yourself a huge pat on the back!!! It is fun to do with a friend or a mirror to see the back of your head. I'm waiting for you to do hulk blue!!!!!!! Go Garrett

You can say that about most things. For some of us, a lot of our confidence comes from our hair. My hair is one of the only things I like about my appearance. And I don't like shaved hair on guys, let alone women. I am willing to dye my hair from time to time, but only unnatural colors like purple. As a redhead, it bugs me when dudes claim to be into redheads but only date fake ones. You aren't a redhead if it's fake. Not meaning hate, btw. It just bugs me when people essentially say we're wrong for caring about our natural hair. I have accidentally cut my hair super short and it looked awful. I change my hair color every few months on my own at home. I currently have my ends bleached and pick different colors. Ive done the under half of my hair and had some streaks before. I teach dance to children and my students are strongly convinced my hair is magic 😁😁

Had long hair for years and never felt comfortable. Got it cut asymmetrical and short when I was 14, and I loved it. Recently turned 18 and I felt like as it’s a new chapter of my life I needed a new haircut, and had all my hair cut off so it is super short now. Absolutely love it! I gained so much confidence and it’s the best decision I ever made. I still get giddy about it even though it’s been like this for five months.

GARRETT! What the heck dude, that looks really good! It looks so natural! I love it! I was braced for it to go so bad, everytime I’ve tried to bleach my own hair it’s gone SO BAD. Currently my hair is dark brown, blue & green! I had a psychotic break last year, pierced my nose & ears & dyed my (naturally brown) hair blue, purple & pink and have felt SO Confident ever since! Genuinely shocked at how well it came out. I thought that it was going to lighten to an unnatural looking level but I think I looks like he easily could’ve grown that color himself 😂 it looks adorable! I have experienced quite a few bleach disasters, but with some patience and effort I was always able to fix them to a point where I was happy with them. I think people take it to seriously sometimes, but also I typically am just lifting so I can color, which usually covers the mistakes anyways, but I also am a firm believer that with youth, it’s always gonna grow out and you can start over. Do it all the time. Just have fun 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've never understood how people were so attached to keeping their hair the same. I've done a whole lot of crazy things to my hair, dyed it, chopped it, buzzed it, IT'S SO MUCH FUN!! I always liked surprising people at school with a sudden hair change. Kept people on their toes lol!
