I've heard a lot about MVL's Najdorf. Agadmator says that MVL is one of the best practitioners of the Najdorf Variation. Made me wonder who are some of the other top players known for their skill in this opening?

As strange it is, I'm struggling with opening from the White side more than I do with Black. With Black, I feel that I control the game more than I opponent - for example, I can play Caro-Kann against all e4s. However, with White, my opponent chooses what opening will we play...I'm a d4 player, so I have to be prepared in the Tarrash, the KID, the Slav, the Benko...how am I supposed to learn all of these?... So I'm really looking forward to openings from the White side to get some stable repertoire:)
@tomasscholtus4 ай бұрын
I agree with you! I am also a d4 player, and with black I play the Caro-Kann against e4 and the KID against d4. I think that you just have to learn to play against all these openings with white. I think its even worse if you play e4 with white, there are so many different options for black. If someone chooses to play the Sicilian or the Italian game its a nightmare…

The game against Korchnoi is also featured in Shankland's small steps to giant improvement I believe. At least from g5 onwards

Kasparov GAVE UP kings Indian in 1994. So it can't possibly be that great
@Musicrafter1215 күн бұрын
1997, after Kramnik beat him over the head with 9. b4. But close enough. Then he gave up the Gruenfeld in 2001 too and started playing exclusively Nimzos, QGAs and Semi-Slavs.

Im pirc player the defence i see wit KiD is just delaying d6 move i wonder can i benefit from this KiD games?
@ziggy47094 ай бұрын
Yes 1.the difference between the KiD and Pirc is the C pawn. The KID player as white plays C4 taking up space and threatening to play on the queen side with B4 A4 while in the pirc white doesn't play C4 because they plan to play in the center. 2.because of this, it's easy for Pirc players to transpose into KID positions without C4(which should be advantageous because black gets all the king side play and play is one move(C4) behind. Pirc players can learn from KID defense strategies of kingside attacks And KID players can learn from Porc players on how else to play for the center if you don't play E4. Overall if you're a Pirc player I'd say just take up the king's Indian and have a solid repertoire against anything. You'll always be in familiar position regardless of what white plays.

Anything he didn't demonstrate seemed pretty simple and trivial to visualize. His analysis videos are some of the finest on KZbin, better than most titled players.
@sgrey91814 ай бұрын
What rating are you? Not to rating-shame, but if you can’t visualize the stuff he’s saying, either pause the video and try to figure it out by yourself, use an engine to understand the ideas, or just don’t watch his videos. Stjepan doesn’t baby his viewers, he targets his videos towards player rated similarly to him. He has such a big following because there are a lot of players, myself included, from the 1400-2200ish range who want interesting chess content without any amount of pandering to lower rated players.
