In Church for the funeral of a devout Christian and former President and the first two lines of the song are "Imagine there's no heaven. Imagine there's no country". Not saying its a bad song, just possibly a bad pick for this event.

@arjaysmithjr I'm a fan of the Beatles. That said, again, I don't think it was the right song. But then again, President Carter and the former first lady picked this song out a long while ago. Should he not have the right to choose his song for his own funeral?

This was President Carter's FAVORITE song. Seeing the deeper meaning and implications of the song requires opening one's heart and mind to universal spirit. When you embody goodness, when God's compassion is seated in your heart, there is no need for the human construct of religion. The lyrics serve as a model of perfection of the spirit, the overcoming of human foibles and vices. They poetically illustrate our collective yearning for peace and brotherly love, aspirations for wholeness, the manifestation of virtue and compassion.

The lyrics are not negative as you who only listened to (or picked) specific verses and think you know/understand the song. Read them and your mind/heart may be enlightened to find the song is about humans finally getting past being bigoted, petty, finding reasons to be separated and go to war, or [most commonly) power-hungry. Like religious legalism, ethnicity, age, looks, etc. "Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us, only sky Imagine all the people *Livin' for today* Ah Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do *Nothing to kill or die for* And no religion, too Imagine all the *people Livin' life in peace* You You may say *I'm a dreamer* But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one Imagine *no possessions* I wonder if you can No need for *greed or hunger* A brotherhood of man Imagine all the *people Sharing all the world* You You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And *the world will live as one*." It is atheistic, communistic, and globalistic. I hope NO ONE JOINS John Lennon in hell, but the left-wing vermin who are given over by God to REPROBATE MINDS, bound for hell themselves, will defend this OUTRAGEOUS ACT.

For you folks questioning the music, perhaps he (as people have been known to prepare for their own funerals way in advance...) selected the song With his First Lady, side by side, before their age caught up to them. Considering that they had loving, long lives from which to listen to many musical selections from which to choose. It isn't such a stretch. ❤ 🙏 Now, you folks with Garth Brooks barbs, it is inappropriate to cast stones in a solemn, respectful, Christian commentary of our late Fmr President Carter.
