It eased the pain by giving us the way to think about it for the rest of our lives. Sometimes a song transcends simple entertainment and communicates something for the ages. Same here.... I had to say goodbye to my FURBABY SPORTY in 1/30/2009 and I was in so much unbearable pain I did not know how I could go on without him. I was driving home , dreading the part that I will be coming to an empty and cold house, without him waiting for me at the door. I never heard the song by Garth Brooks before. Suddenly the song "The Dance" by Garth Brooks played on and I immediately realized it was a message from beyond the grave, my Baby Boy Sporty who used to love to sing along with me in the car. He loved to go for rides in the car, sitting or standing on the passenger seat and singing along with me and the radio. I knew then he was there with me telling me that I could have missed all the pain of losing him, but I would also have to had to miss the beautiful love and life we shared together. The song brings tears to my eyes every time, but also it gives me some peace and eased the pain as I try to hang on .....until we meet again.

My God Bless you also. The pain of losing someone you love is difficult. The pain of trying to move forward is even more difficult. The guilt of looking at another person and wanting to be loved is hard to deal with. You don't want to do anything to interfere with the memory of the one you lost. I still think of my former wife daily but, I thank God that I was given the opportunity to find someone that shared the same pain that I did. We both allow each other to remember the past. But, we are thankful that God gave us someone that understood. I pray that you find someone that understands.

I was 17 (48 now) It was our high school dance in the gymnasium... My sweetheart was not allowed to come to the dance... Her stepfather who was molesting her (NOBODY knew that at the time) Wouldn't let her near me... I went to the dance anyway... Hoping she would be there... The dance was almost over... I sat there watching the other students dance with their boyfriends and girlfriends... This song came on... I was standing in front of the bleachers... All of a sudden these little hands covered my eyes from behind me... It was her... Somehow she talked her stepfather into letting her come... I turned around and we hugged... Then we danced to this song... It was MAGICAL... 30 years later... She's married with kids... I'm married to a great woman and have three kids of my own... Her and I dated off and on for over ten years... It's been twenty years since we broke up... There were moments of love and hate... Lots of pain... But glad I didn't know the way it all would end... Or I'd have missed the chance... For the DANCE.... ❤

@@garthbrooks9663 Hello. I have been a fan ever since your first album. I love your music. I was also on your jury at your trial in Claremore when you wanted your money back from the hospital who was going to make a memorial wing in your mom's name in your hometown. Do you know that the foreman who was chosen actually said that you have no case because you don't have anything in writing? I told her this is Oklahoma. A man's word should be enough. She never had a leg to stand on after that. I would have met you but I didn't know you were coming into the jury room after the trial and I left because I was having trouble with my leg and actually had to go to ER the day before because it was hurting so bad. I have always regretted that I never met you. I so love your music. I lived in Inola at the time and always wished I knew where you lived. You have been my go to for music forever. I only listen to K95 Bigcountry in Tulsa and I get to hear your songs daily. I am a hospice nurse and so I drive many miles a day and always listen to this station. They play all the good ones, George, Tammy, Judds, Johnny, Travis, too many to name. I know almost all your songs by heart and they move me. Trisha is a lucky girl. I always wish you the absolute best. Wish I could have met you that day. Love you Beverly from Oklahoma

1year ago, my best friend of 50 years, passed away in her sleep. Kathy had some health issues she struggled with. When she passed away, this song immediately came to mind. It's so true. I would have loved for Kathy to be pain free, but maybe it would have been missing the dance. The dance being the many hours we would talk about her pain, her procedures, but beyond that the love for her children, grandchildren, her siblings and their families and her friends was amazing. she seldom complained, always moved forward. I will miss her forever, but the memories of 50 years of laughter, tears, triumphs, I will carry in my heart forever and I am forever I thankful I didn't miss the dance Love you Kel !

My husband and I met with this song. It started with a dance. If you really knew what this song really means, you would know what this song really means. My husband and I started our lives with a dance. After 49 years the dance ended but it started with the dance. It didn't hit home until he went home to the Lord. This song is very prophet. God told me everything happened because of the dance. HE told me that it wasn't us that started with the dance but HE ordained"the first dance.". It's been almost a year and a half ago since he went home to the Lord but it all happened with the first dance. My husband thought it was him but God showed me that it was HE that started the dance with me and my husband.

It's about being glad not knowing, our lives are better left to chance. I've lost soo many people that I love, and maybe I would change a few things if I could really get the chance to go back. But that's just nostalgia and wishful thinking talking bc I miss those people soo greatly. I wish I had all the answers, but I don't. And neither does anyone else. And that's the beauty and overwhelming sadness of The Dance.

I had this beautiful dance with a lover. We were on the beach with a fire going and the stars were like holes in the floor of heaven. We gently swayed to the song playing on my cell phone. I thought we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. Both of us middle aged, we had our share of pain and disappointment. I thought that God had brought me the gift of finally experiencing unconditional love with a man. We had been in a long distance relationship, but I held on to hope that God would bridge the gap between us. I didn't want to let go, but God asked me to trust Him. I told God that I trusted Him with my heart, even if He had to break it. Not long after I spoke that prayer, we broke up during a horrible fight. I couldn't breath. My whole body shook as I tried to pack my belongings and go to the airport. In a flash of a moment, I went from having the love of my life to having a hole in my soul. Flash forward several months...I was driving in my car when this song came on. Feeling punched in the stomach, I had to pull over. The tears flowed and I was inconsolable. Still, given the choice, I would choose the dance...

Hello, my name is Elaine. This song was dedicated to my my brother in law , Coke, he was a bodybuilder, a gentle soul, but on September 2006, his life was cut short. He was cut off by another truck, tried to prevent an accident, ended up giving his life to save another vehicle. He was thrown from his truck, and died on scene. Was a tragedy to someone so kind and gentle. Was September long weekend in Calgary, Alta. I saw it on the news, and remember thinking, thank god, I don’t know anyone with a truck. Five hours later the police called . Never , ever did I think when I thought things were safe , someone was gone. So, always, always, hold your love ones close, because you just never know when things happen. This song is for Coke.

My oldest brother died today (04-12-2021) and I must say that his life was a dance like eveybody else there was many ups and downs but He was a great MAN and I'm confident that he lived the life/ the dance. MAY JESUS CHRIST BE WITH HIM AS HE LEAVES THIS LIFE AND GOES TO THE NEXT ONE ! . I love you big brother and I'll miss you until my death ! ! May you go rest high on that mountain !
