In 1992 I was a Marine stationed on Okinawa, Japan for 12 months at my first duty station. My roomy, Mathew was a white kid from Fremont, Ohio and I was a black kid from Bronx, NY (by way of Trinidad). He would play country music and watch NASCAR every chance he got. I was going crazy. Garth Brooks was his favorite. Then he started listening to Reggae and R&B (just a little). My son was born while I was overseas, Mathew is the one who told me I had a boy because my leg was broken and I couldn't get to the Duty phone on the 4th deck (floor) of our barracks. Mathew was also at my side during the funeral service for my son 29 years later. Music.

I lost my husband after 26 years of marriage. My daughter had this song played at his funeral. I shared of a special date her dad and I had on top of a mountain. That day it was snowing and he asked me if I would like to dance. I told him what if a car comes. No one is on this mountain. This was our favorite song to dance to. We got out and danced with snow flakes hitting our faces. He would spin me around. We kissed off and on throughout the song. At the end we did a deep, laid in the snow and made snow angels. Rolled around and told each other how much we loved each other. Kissed again. What a beautiful memory he left me with. I will never forget it ❤

My sister fighting cancer one day we spend time with that will forever be etched in our hearts. She wanted to listen to music. She danced with her children. This song came on when then she asked my brother to dance with her. They danced the whole song. She rested her head on our brother’s shoulder/chest area like that’s where she just wanted to feel comfort & that she got for the rest of the song. My brother gave her comfort that her idiot husband wouldn’t give her. He was to busy starting to replace her. Her family her core family will never replace her. She’ll forever be missed. She took a piece of all our heart with her. We love you sis more than words can say. ❤

I worked as the forklift driver for two weeks at the texas stadium in the early nineties for mr brooks. He would jump on my fork and ask me to to take him whereever. I was the last person to drop him off at his bus on the final night. I love this man. Met his father his mother and had a smoke with his sister. When the trellis fell garth showed up with mr mcbride. I was in the stands he was wearing a george strait hat and gym shorts and saw heard garth say: “when will enough be enough. That’s when I knew this man was the real deal, and I will always love him for his care for humankind. He visited the hospital of the injured people. I was not one of them. His love for mankind will always resonate with me in my heart. I love this man as a brother from another mother.

I cried uncontrollably. This song speaks to me deeply.

The first time I heard this song, a very special relationship had just ended. My 12 year old son was seated next to me in the car as it played. I felt every word and somehow I knew he did, too. Fast forward 13 years. It wasn't long after that break up that I did meet 'him.' We were married and while we raised are 3 combined children (and adopted a fourth), good and bad happened, but we were so glad we were together. I think my son and his daughter did better in life because of it. Unfortunately, he had contracted Interstatial Lung disease where he worked. After 20 months of difficult, painful bouts, he died only a few months after our 11th anniversary and our fourth child's graduation. It has taken years (20) to get where I'm at. This song takes me back, and makes me glad that original dance had ended.

26 years ago I lost my baby. I went through hell but I made it back. This song reminds me of our journey together. Although it may not mean exactly what the song is saying, it fits my story. They say life goes on, and I agree, but so does the pain. I thought about posting a tribute to John David, but instead I figured this was the best way to honor a life that never got to experience what the world has to offer. My prayers he is in heaven greeting all the other babies that were taken from their loving parents. I pray he is dancing in heaven with Jesus and his family members that are there with him. I will count the days until I finally get to hold and dance with you again. I love you son!!
