Garth's best song/video as far as I'm concerned and I'll never forget when it got censored everywhere and I mean everywhere as it was deemed 'too violent', give me a fucking break....look at our world/society today and how dare they censor a message clear about the tragedy and horrors of domestic violence. Shame on those who took it off of their stations and platforms when he came out with the song. Number one on the billboard charts by the way. It's a great video and incredible message....no one has the right to put a hand on anyone, self defense is one thing.....being a monster and beating your wife is another. Oh and screwing around too right.....toss men like this in the trash where they belong.
@emilywolfe73198 ай бұрын
I didn't realize it had been censored so broadly until I tried to sing it at karaoke last night. I had heard the all that remains cover and thought they just dropped the ball by not singing the third verse, but was shocked when even garths version at karaoke omitted the last verse... Insanity. Totally destroys the climax of the story being told, and with all the gangster rap and what not a country song about a crime of passion has to be censored... Pathetic.

In the controversial music video for the Garth Brooks song "The Thunder Rolls" (1991), Brooks portrays an abusive husband cheating on his wife. When the husband came home from visiting his mistress, everything comes to a violent end. Throughout the video, Brooks and his band perform outside in the rain. The music video was banned from TNN and CMT for its portrayal of domestic violence. The music video won a Grammy award in 1991, nominated for "Best Music Video - Short Form". That same year, the music video won a CMA award, nominated for "Music Video of the Year". The music video was directed by Bud Schaetzle, and produced by Martin Fischer. It premiered on CMT on May 1, 1991, when CMT named it a "Pick Hit". TNN banned the music video, and Brooks filmed a disclaimer. CMT banned the music video shortly thereafter. On May 7, 1991, VH1 aired "The Thunder Rolls", which became Brooks first #1 hit. On December 31, 1995, "The Thunder Rolls" was the first video to air on Great American Country.

Me too. I wasn't really into country music but as a kid in a small town in the early/mid 90s this was a memorable country song. His bad wig and glasses, so corny but corny works in the entertainment world and it's such a great song. Very memorable. I think I really saw the impact of the video years later in a VH1 "Pop Up Video" episode.

This video should have never been banned. It brought comfort to children dealing with domestic violence because they knew that at least one person understood what they were going through. It brought much needed attention to the issue of domestic violence in general and comforted many women dealing with it. I wish they would bring it back to the mainstream viewing. Thank you for recording it and posting it for us. May the God of Israel bless you, dear Daniel. Thank you again for bringing this video to the public view once again. ♥♥♥♥

I remember years later, in the late 90s, they showed this on VH1 on that "Pop Up Video" show. I used to love that show, it was so informative, gave all the background about a video. I recently learned VH1 was one of the only stations that would show the video.

@ClayMorrow912 жыл бұрын
Very fun fact about that: Garth called up Bud Schaetzle, the director, and said: ‘How about let me play two roles in this video: one as the singer and one as the husband?’ Bud fell in love with that idea. When they went out to California to make this video, it took 3.5 days to shoot. It was about 4 hours every day in makeup to get Garth to look like the husband, the villain. The glasses, the beard.. Garth grew a beard for about a month, but it’s not as heavy as the husband’s is so they had to piece it in on his face. And if anybody who’s ever Garth take his hat off knows he doesn’t have any kind of hair like the villain so they had a wig for him. The wedding ring is different and his eyes have brown contacts in them.
