Fun fact: Garth’s original design had him tap to freecast the top card of your library if it’s a card first printed in Alpha.

I think the reason people are excited about Garth is that you effectively bypass the reserved list by printing cards like Garth that generate token versions of the card. who knows, maybe they can print a land that instead of entering the battlefield, generates a token version of an original dual land. It's a very smart way of bypassing the reserved list for people who want to play with the iconic cards of MTG, while also keeping collectors happy.

Asmo goes well with brash taunter and some damage multipliers imo. Have marauders out, taunter pings himself for 12 and you get to ping someone for 24. With fiery emancipation it's just a oneshot.

Does that double the dmg twice? deal 12 to the taunter (doubles to 24) and then the taunter deals 24 (doubles to 42) both with marauders effect

Yeah I was right in the middle of putting together an Azusa deck when I saw Garth. I stood up and said well 5 color toolbox deck with endless Shivan Dragons sounds way better than lands

Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar goes good with deathtouch stuff like Vial of Poison, Bladebrand, Alchemist's Gift, Coat with Venom, Lash of Thorns, Touch of Moonglove, Virulent Swipe, Aspect of Gorgon, Baleful Eidolon, Retreat to Hagra, and Rune of Mortality, since the creatures deal damage to themselves. Mayhem Devil and Havoc Jester are also a couple good ones. Also, Magnetic Theft can attach Gorgon Flail, Gorgon's Head, or Basilisk Collar to an opponent's creature before you sacrifice food for the death effect.

I think the answer how to build garth is 3 options 1. Flicker -- you can reload him with those and pretty much (Note: the other 2 themes need a tiny bit of this for that reason) 2. tokens -- clearly token tribal doesn't have a 5-color legend yet since all 5 colors can make fantastic tokens and garth is as close as it gets with Sylven Dragon and Black lotus tokens 3. Old border -- this deck is flavor he pretty much thee very first character ever made in magic and throwing spells is what he does.

there is another way for first commander. Play artifact deck so you can untap cookbook so you can get more food. red is good with artifacts,wheels and reanimation of artifacts. And then play creatures that do stuff when dealt dmg so you can poke your own creatures for value or if you are feeling evil you can play it as control element. :)

If you have Rythm of the Wild or Temur Acendency out, Garth will go infinite with Deadeye navigator. You can win by infinity tapping and making colored Mana with black lotus then you could just grab 3 brain geysers and make your oponenets draw out

At that point you could just as well make a ton of shivan dragons and attack... End result is the same but gives you more style points

I would consider using him with Brudiclad to turn treasures or whatever into Black Lotuses or Shivan Dragons. 1 5/5 for 6 is bad. A dozen is good.

With garth If you bounce it you can have a second black lotus If you have haste with you have infinite mana and you can kill everybody with braingeyser or shivan dragons It's a value commander with a wincon in it

yes but there's already a dozen commanders that go infinite with only one card if you're looking to do that.

use conspiracy or similar card to make him non-human then cast mutate on another creature and copy it with doublemajor so you mutate a token on top of him boom easy way to get infinite mana with a haste enabler and something that proliferates for 3 or less :l ez

Or the actually simple combo of using a quicksilver elemental paying a blue to target garth tap to make a blotus pay a blue to copy pilipala's abilities pay 2 to untap it and then pay to copy garth getting a new instance of garth's ability, repeat ad infinitum.

or the truly big brain play of having a necromancer's scourge and necrotic ooze on board and a horseshoe crab, anger, and garth in grave use necrotic ooze to make blotus sac the blotus for blue untap "the crab" ooze tap him and cast the regrowth (paying for regrowth with another green source for now) to grab garth. Now discard garth for a black due to Necromancer's scourge untap the ooze then tap it again for a blotus on blue again bringing up your blue mana to 4, untap again tap for regrowth targeting garth (once again paying for it out of your own pocket :P) discard garth and untap the ooze this time you tap him for green, you cycle between 2 blue 1 green this combo is mana neutral so you only get storm count. welcome to hell :P

Kenrith garth and mana reflections and a sac outlet gets infinite storm... (if you include an ability cost reducer then this actually gives mana.) Kenrith Garth Birgi a sac outlet and Zirda also technically goes infinite... Man sounds like alot of work to get infinite storm though.

It should be noted that blinking Garth resets his ability, so people are thinking of ways to go infinite with him, using the black lotus to pay to bounce him and then replay him or something like that, not exactly sure, just say it mentioned

Asmo can be insane just because phyrexian altar and pitiless plunderer. Or just sac outlet + huge mana. I think that really is the strongest about her that she is not affected by commander tax Definetely boring though

You can easily go infinite it Garth, you just have to blink him with deadeye navigator and use two of the black lotus manna to do it again and you will be left with one mana then do this infinity till you have infinite colored manna then go crazy with those dragons
