GARUDA WISNU KENCANA (GWK): BALI'S BIGGEST CULTURAL PARK

GWK Cultural Park (Garuda Wisnu Kencana) or Mandala Garuda Wisnu Kencana, is a unique cultural park with a breathtaking monument.
Currently, the statue of Vishnu is 23 meters (75.5 ft) high, the original plan was for a 146-metre (479 ft) gold-plated Vishnu riding Garuda to be erected a top an 11-story entertainment complex. Garuda’s wing span will be 64 meters (210.0 ft) across, and when it's completed it will be the largest statue in the world.
There was some controversy about the idea to build a statue so large. Some religious authorities complained that its massive size might disrupt the spiritual balance of the island, and also that its commercial nature was inappropriate.
