How young Cooper and Raft are! The Violinist also became a big name later: Paul Fix. Action packed with some scenes at Sea that must have been tough to shoot and Hell for the actors. A lost gem.

What brings a tears to my eyes watching these old beautiful movies, is that... All the actors and staff , extras included, are gone 😢 If only... Hollywood had these actors today!! Our children would have morals having watched no sex no vulgar no nonsense real stories!! Alas, only we old people watch in awe of the greatness of the story and morals!? 😢 ☘️☘️☘️

They had quite a few bloopers in this old flick. My favorite around 52 minutes they are in calm water docked around docked ships and then they are on the high seas and Cooper is trying to hold the damsel in distress. Equally entertaining is the one just Pryor as she walks tops turvey below deck as the ship slants and Cooper slants with it and follows her up on the still ship docked in calm water next to other docked ships all under a clear, calm sky and then we go to the stormy sea. Two fine entertaining bloopers sandwiching a calm deck walk. Good movie, great cast; good old fashioned bloopers for the old time great flicks. Now that's fun and adventure old school.

Olympe Bradna was the daughter of Fred and Ella Bradna. She was a sickly child, left in Europe with relatives, while Fred served 42 seasons as Equestrian Director (which the public calls Ringmaster) for Ringling Bros. Circus. Ella was a great star there with elegant horse acts. The parents seldom saw Olympe, and her becoming the actress we see here was through her own perseverance.

good film .sadly at the time more famous for the record breaking deal that paramount paid warners for the loanout of raft .he and cooper were then the hottest stars on the planet . problem was having paired the two with great publicity they then realised they didnt have a picture to put them in. a cb demille epic reap the wild wind was intended but de mille hated raft and thought him a poor actor.he went ahead and made union pacific with joel mcrea standing in for cooper who now was tied up in souls at sea.reap the wild wind was later a huge hit for john wayne and ray milland.hathaway said souls at sea had been kicking around for years and they rushed it into production as rafts loan out period was runnung out.henry said they picked it because it had sailing ships in it like reap the wild wind! in the event it was a good movie but did poorly.put simply there was nothing wrong with it but it wasnt the actionfest the two huge stars promised . not enough fighting and shooting in it was hathaways opinion!

“Another sailing movie with mostly text?” I didn’t see any text, unless you watched it with subtitles. Perhaps you meant dialogue, but there wasn’t too much of that, just enough. As for being just another ‘sailing’ movie, I don’t know how to respond to that. But it was a worthwhile early movie, and quite unique, in that it highlighted the inhumanity of the slave trade. Perhaps you’d best stick with Marvel Comics movies and films like Armageddon instead?
