Gary LeFebvre plays so well on this sadly out of print LP that it is difficult to believe that he had only had one further opportunity to lead his own date, and that was for the tiny Figueroa label in 1985. Often overdubbing to fill in the ensembles, LeFebvre plays both tenor and soprano on four superior jazz standards (a lyrical "Some Other Time" dedicated to Bill Evans, "Footprints," Chick Corea's "Windows," and "Milestones"), plus his own "Walkin' the Sunrise" and "Autumn Shades" (based closely on "Autumn Leaves"). The leader is assisted by pianist Kei Akagi (in one of his earlier recordings), bassist Leroy Vinnegar, and drummer Frank Butler throughout this well-planned and memorable outing. If only it would be reissued on CD!
