I was born in 2008 and also grew up with 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s music and am absolutely in love with basically everything that has to do with those decades, such as the fashion, movies, music, tv shows, comics, etc. (mostly the 50s and 60s though) and I wish more than anything that the world had good music again like it did then! There was so much innocence in music then and so much talent too! I agree, oldies are the best!! Gary Lewis & The Playboys are such an amazing and underrated band too! It breaks my heart that Gary Lewis’ Dad (Jerry) was abusive and a terrible father to his kids because I love watching Jerry’s movies and they always make me smile and make me very happy. But I’m happy to see that Gary grew up a great and talented guy despite having a terrible father!

Many years ago I paid a visit to a Catholic church and there I heard two teenagers playing a great tune with their guitars. The melody was soooo beautiful that made me wonder what song it was. Thinking it would be presumptuous of me as a stranger to ask them about the song, I stayed around listening instead. As time went on I forgot that melody completely so there's no way I could find it anymore, what a shame. Then I've chanced on this Gary's song on YT and instantly all my memory about what I heard that day is back.

This song save your heart for me For the younger generation let me explain Ok Here I go During the 1950's into the 1960 college kids would go on summer break from last of May till middle of September for summer break Most highschool girls in states like California and Florida would never consider marriage until after college Why? Because they loved being free. Guys too Here in northwest Arkansas Girls often would get married at 16 But college kids had fun with going to the beach and summer parties They might get engaged Ok When they went home for summer break they might enjoy a fling or even look at a boy but never more than flirt Gary is singing save your heart for me When I see you in September we will still be sweet hearts In those colleges they had deans and older women who was mother's away from home Basically they behaved themselves It was common for young girls to wait till age 25 or older to marry Why Because when you get married you don't go out anymore Guys waited too The generation today is a little different Those days most girls never even went to college But where Gary Lewis lived they liked being free Gary is the son of Jerry Lewis and his mother was a good looking lady too Again it has to do with the summer time when college kids went home for summer break Save your heart for me Was a number one hit That song came out in 1964 For people over 70 years old this song was a way of life Look at how Gary is dressed and his band College was fun and you loved every moment being free Summer surf and beach parties Even in southern states college kids went 4 years of college They often got married the last year of college It was common to see marriage at 27 Save your heart for me

Same with me! I’m a huge fan of Jerry Lewis but I hate it that he was such a terrible guy. I forgot about his kids but knew they were treated terribly and then I found out his oldest son Gary was a singer. I checked out his hits and knew a few of them and was very shocked and impressed that that was Jerry Lewis’ son who sung those songs! And now I’ve dived deeper into listening to other music of Gary Lewis and the Playboys and have found soooo many amazingly good and catchy songs! I sure hit the jackpot with finding a new band to listen to at the moment!

By "Drafted" are you insinuating that he was in Vietnam ?? He was not.. Gary Lewis was in a safe, non combat area of South Korea.
@rdowning60 Жыл бұрын
@1953childstar no where in the word drafted is there any indication as to where your service will be used by the military...my comment was mentioned only to indicate that while serving his country he was not able to focus on his music. Tour with his band, or be in the studio to cut new music or album s .while he was not in the lime light of the music industry, new talent was showcased. And when Gary returned from military service, his chart topping status was never the same..
