And the BAFTA for the same role... Damn him, he's too perfect at everything...

Wonderful! But, why weren't they standing in an ovation, for him?!

Vesper Oldman’s never been truly appreciated by the film industry. That’s most likely the reason.

I think Jason Isaacs, one of many admirers of Oldman, nailed it when he said real chameleons are never duly appreciated in movie business, especially in Hollywood. It's hard to be a top-billing crowd-pleasing "star" when viewers don't even realize it's the same guy from this one to that one

Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Sam Rockwell, and DDL would be the acting god brothers

It probably was Gary Oldman's absolute film... and he's not even in it. I thought his BAFTA was well-deserved. Richard E. Grant said: "When an actor asks you to read his script, your heart sinks. The number of scripts I've been given by actors that are so unbelievably terrible! It's well known that actors are lousy writers." Not Oldman. And he was a fine filmmaker overall as well. Every Brit who's been around that area of the South London ghetto where NIL BY MOUTH takes place says the film was "spot-on". Oldman himself later said that the film was not autobiographical--more what happened to other people where he grew up and lived. He is one of the best actors there is working today. And after NIL BY MOUTH... he instantly became one of the best filmmakers...
