My dad would guard forward air bases like this in Vietnam. He ended up in counter-battery artillery because he just barely washed out of the Air Cavalry at Fort Sill because of his vision. Oh well, it's for the best. Huey jockeys had to sit on their helmets to not get their bollocks blown off through the landing vision windows by Charlie and the NVA.
