Not sad. Gary Sinise gives back to a good cause without a lot of fanfare. Most others in Hollywood are overpaid, self absorbed individuals who because they are famous try to shove their woke way of thinking down our throats. What they don’t realize is that most Americans don’t care what they think.

It really is a shame Gary Sinise didn’t win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this performance. It’s worth noting that the category was very tough that year, 1994, with two of the other nominees being Martin Landau in “Ed Wood” (the winner) and Samuel L. Jackson in “Pulp Fiction.”

I am sure my childhood sweetheart would have liked to have done the same, but her father killed the entire family before she was able. Drove the family station wagon off an interstate overpass into Bayou Plaquemine Brule May 17, 1969. Six perished including the girl I'm sure I would have married. Dana Thibodeaux sleep in peace until we see one another again.

As a veteran I knew of his tireless work for US veterans for many years. He is one of the few famous people who care about those who sacrifice so much so that we can enjoy a (relatively) peaceful & free society. I am however forever jealous that the US gets many amazing celebrities to champion their cause. Being from Canada, our society, & our celebrities, could not care less about our struggles against government oppression & systemic mistreatment of us veterans. Since no celebrities care about us, we have no voice within society because Canadians have very little respect for the CAF, or us veterans.

In that scene you mention, Lt. Dan gives Jenny a quick look that says "I'll be nice to you for Forrest's sake. But I got your number, sister. " It's quick and fleeting, but one of those details that subtly adds to a scene.

I met Gary Sinise in 2014. He is one of the most humble, honest, nice guys I’ve ever met. Unlike many in Hollywood, he is not arrogant and he cares about every single fan with whom he speaks. I met two other actors many years ago who acted arrogant and only going through the motions appearing uncaring to their fans. Gary is truly a man who cares.

That probably has alot to do with the fact that he probably doesn’t consider himself a movie star. I don’t know for sure, but it just strongly seems like he doesn’t. Most of the “big name” entertainers (not just in movies, but also music) probably act arrogant

Gary Sinise should receive every metal possible for his passion of helping all others in need. The most thoughtful, caring man ever and is considered a true HERO to all mankind. The whole world loves you and so do I. Thank you so very much for your kind heartedness and concern for others. God Bless YOU.

No I didn’t. But I always thought that because of the way the movie took the Vietnam war into the story something good had to come out of it. My father went two tours to Vietnam. I never understood why he went two times. He never talked about that time there. My mother was angry about how people would spit at my dad. She should have been proud of the men that got hero’s welcome coming home from afghan war but she never did. She said it was because the pain that the men felt never healed from the way they were received coming home from Vietnam. The pain must have been extra hard for the ones hurt mentally and physically. I’m proud of all of the men and women that serve our country. My grandson is now going through boot camp in the marine corp. thank you to all that have overcome so many obstacles for your country and for yourself.

@@wildbill7081 my beloved brother did two tours starting in 1968 in Vietnam as a Marine. He did the second tour because he wanted to go back because of all the losses he had witnessed. I don't know that he ever overcame his survivor's guilt. This was so much more complicated for these men and women than was let on. A finer person I've never known. Agent orange got him in the end as well as poor service from the VA. I wish there were some way to go back and educate the American people better regarding the sacrifices that were made by such young men that carried through their whole lives. They were treated terribly on return.

Gary Sinise has been a huge supporter of disabled veterans and of the Disabled American Veterans organization, even entertaining it's national convention one year with his Lt. Dan Band. He's done so much for so many organizations and individuals that I think it's safe to say he holds a special place in the hearts of the veteran/military community for the compassion and loyalty he's shown to us all.
