Thanks for this reaction video. I’m a fan of Gary V too- not only is he a wonderful singer and composer, he is also a good example who practices his faith. Another favorite song Gary sang is entitled “Lead me Lord”. I think he has recorded a video singing during the pandemic too and uploaded it on his YT channel. Thank you for featuring Gary V on your channel. I was expecting this to be one of the usual reaction videos about vocal technique et cetera but you both shared very good reflections about the message of the song. Gary V has been in the industry for 40 years, a certified icon in OPM (Original Pilipino Music). This song was originally written and released back in the mid-80s as part of his second pop album titled "Moving Thoughts". He had just become a born again Christian back then and wrote this song as his a personal testimony of his relationship with the Lord. It was included in the album with no real expectations of commercial success but they (he and his team) were quite apprehensive of how it will be received since the album was a pop/dance one. It turned out to be a monster hit and became a staple in almost all of Gary's shows and concerts. Over the years, he has rearranged and re-released the song to make it sound more contemporary but the lyrics, its message and impact to listeners have remained the same. This particular version is a stripped down version of the original, and was released during the pandemic lockdowns. As Gary himself said in another interview/podcast, it was his way of giving hope and comfort during those early and very uncertain times of the pandemic. The forced inactivity caused by the lockdowns also gave him the opportunity to be more creative with his craft. Again, without really much expectation, this particular version resonated with a new generation of younger listeners (mostly online and abroad). A true testament to the powerful and enduring message contained within the lyrics and music of this song. Gary V was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in his teens and those with this condition usually have a lifespan of 30 years from diagnosis. He has undergone open heart surgery about 5 years ago due to a heart blockage only to discover that he also has cancer of the kidney barely a month after surgery. He is now cancer free, in his late 50's and a grandfather. His immense faith has allowed him to pull through and he expresses a lot of these in his compositions. He may be more known for being a pop, jazz singer and dancer but it's his gospel songs that I continue to listen to. This song was part of his album released in the early 90's together with other songs, including "Could you be Messiah" which he rearranged for Morissette, that continue to inspire me up to this day.

You're right about people seeming to have a perfect life on the outside just because that's what the people see. But Gary V has type 1 diabetes so it's been rough for him since childhood with all the medications that he needed to maintain to function and perform. A few years ago, he had a hart attack when he was about to perform with his son and got an open heart surgery. With all of his health issues, he never once lose faith and kept going. He was up and about, performing heavy choerography just weeks after his open heart surgery. I was never really a fan of him musically speaking but his faith is something else coz I am not religious myself and if I had to endure what he has been enduring all of his life, I would've easily given up. That's why his songs are so heartfelt.

This song IS, if not one of the top tear-jerker songs in the country of all time. This video was released during at the start of the Pandemic, about few days after the total lockdown in the Philippines. I remember there was so much confusion at that time as we here the number of casualties rise and a lot of people lost or about to lose their jobs. Not to mention, Holy Week was around the corner. This brought tears to a lot of watchers. I guess he was also scared at the time since he is at high risk of getting the severe effects of the virus. He could've died a few times before the Pandemic so this song really means a lot to him and everyone who knows about him.

this is his original song, which is in his Christian album "shout for joy". and although it's a religious song, it was a big hit in the philippines. the album also contains the song "could you be messiah?" which was covered by morissette.

You guys should hear his life story as well. He is successful and happy with his family in the Lord amidst his battle with his type 2 diabetes and yet because of God's grace he is still with us and living as a testimony of God's greatness and goodness. This song was his own composition way back in the 90s. Yet he remixed it for this pandemic situation 2 years ago to uplift people in their hearts and faith amidst the dark times. This song has passed generations already and yet it always speaks to people at their right time and moment.
