My first 1998 Windstar was retired at 412,000 miles with virgin trans, and my second 1998 Windstar was retired with 350,000 miles with virgin trans. Both were for work, full of tools and parts, weighing in at 5000 pounds fully loaded. I never hotrod them, always warm up before drive off, and service every 50,000 miles.

You surely do a great job explaining everything. I was wondering if you could give me your intake. My neighbor and I are working on a 4f50n from a 2005 taurus. It has no forward nor reverse. We checked if there was oil pressure and there is. Also, the pump shaft and chain are in good condition. Is the anything else that could cause a no forward/reverse on any gear?

Did this happen suddenly with no warning?
@450mijaou1 Жыл бұрын
@@GaryFerraro It did. The driver says she had been driving about an hour with no issues when all of the sudden she felt the car jerk a little and then it would not respond when she tried to go.

@@450mijaou1 Before you dig into the trans, look at the pump splines in the converter, may have stripped out

I guess my neighbor found out what is wrong with it over night. He took it apart and found out that the part that you take off at 34:30 is stripped.
@450mijaou1 Жыл бұрын
Do you know what could have caused that to happen?

Hey Gary, thanx for the video! I'm doing a 2004 Freestar 4.2 ltr 4F50N / AX4N . Can you suggest a vendor list? These suppliers in Spring, Tx have supply deficiency syndrome.

I've got a grocery list. Piston and seal install tool, round plastic. Master rebuild kit with Pistons and bushings. All. All three shift solenoids PCP Solenoid. Lock up Solenoid Correct chain Drive gears? Solenoid wiring harness. Planet Ford $123.22 Overdrive band Overdrive band plastic retainer Coast band Pump shaft bearing with integral seal Valve body upgrade kit & resizing tool. Correct Torque converter Need to insure the chain and valve body are correct. This is the original trans, however it's been worked over by a shop I shouldn't have trusted.

This trans was setting the P0732 while the salvage ones they installed all set P0741. I believe they scavenged this one for good parts and assembled a Frankenstein. It all appears to be wasted and untrustworthy.

Well , yes sir. I'm in my 50th year paying taxes as an auto repair tech, teacher / instructor and concourse restorations, even to our super bowl,Pebble Beach. Nowadays, I'm too old to keep up. But I'm OCD enough to fix what others do not. This will be a challenge and I'm seeing things that just shouldn't be in a recently reman trans.

Ah the unplug it test... with these modules and CANBus if a module has short to ground it can bleed into CANBus system and causes all kinds of problems. If the car has multiple CANBus (multiple power train canbus, linbus, etc) you will need the wiring diagram to see what is on the bus, then you can unplug modules while having an oscilloscope connected to CANbus and look for signal to return to normal.

Probably water got behind it-- and then it froze over a cold winter night... and ice expands. Classic destruction though water freezing

I wouldn't hit it with a metal hammer myself. Either a plastic dead blow hammer-- or maybe use a wooden dowel as a punch. Tapping cast with metal hammers, I always break something. lol
