Did I just hear Mr Gough say 'Get out of bed, don't be lazy', 'get there earlier'? My God, you've changed (those that know, know). Brilliant location, brilliant advice. Just read an excellent article about the benefits of photography in mental wellness - think this video just put those words into stunning pictures. Love it!

I know you encourage people to dislike your images but I simply can't!! Can take or leave the one of the geese maybe but as for the rest of them....just stunning. One tip I would add (which you seem to achieve anyway) is to "make it an adventure".

"Shoot for you" That's the very thing i did when i moved away from motorsports photography. I did it for everyone else, motorsport teams, riders, riders friends and family, sponsors, spectators, you name it. I rarely did it for myself. Then i just packed in, went cold turkey. I started actually learning other areas of photography and the only person i was trying to impress was ME. Funny that the last one would be Practice. I tell my daughter that one all the time for her artwork. When she looks at my drawings or paintings and says "I will never ba able to do that" I tell her that she can, she just needs to practice, practice, practice. Excellent video, Gary. Some great tips there.

Great video and what a great community we belong to to produce such straight forward simple tips. My three word tips are : #1 Look behind you --- #2 Keep Camera out-----#3 Take a Break. #1 Many times have I gone to a specific place to get a shot and was too focused on the intended shot to really look around and see what was literally behind me. #2 Once I have my shot I pack up my gear and head back only to find a shot on the trail back but was to lazy to pull out all the gear again... Keep it out! #3 After getting your shot, take a moment to sit and enjoy the reason you are there in the first place. You will remember the experience long after the image has faded. Thanks again Gary for another excellent video.

Great tips and a great video, and I loved your selection of favourites at the end. My one additional three-worded advice: Wear comfortable shoes! Whether it's a landscape shoot, a wedding shoot, being a news photographer, a fashion shoot, you might be on your feet all day, so do your feet a favour by wearing comfortable shoes that are appropriate for the conditions.

Hi Gary, been a subscriber to your channel since I found you doing tree and forest shoots with fellow Photographer Mike Browne who is another favourite of mine especially like yourself in the way you explain things. So, here I am watching this video some 5 years after you posting it and those tips will be just as relevant in 20 years time as they are today so thankyou for the reminder on the approach to Photography. The only thing I'd add to the "Gear Doesn't matter" tip is well in some ways it does matter and while you can take these images with any camera, it's also good to have helping accessories such as ND Filters and really good sturdy tripods. Nice fast wide lenses doesn't hurt either.

My new tip: check your settings. Just the other day I was shooting landscapes at one location, with aperture locked at F/11. Then I went to another spot to shoot birds. I changed lenses, shutter speed, and ISO to auto. But I forgot to open the aperture. I only realized midway through the shoot that my ISO was way too high because of the small aperture and fast shutter speed. Some really grainy shots resulted; very disappointing, but a lesson re-learned. Great video and a nice set of seascapes!

Gary, I think the most honest critiques I ever received were from clients when I shot commercially. If they liked the work, they paid my fee and expenses! It does us no good when, after looking at our work, the viewer is more prone to the polite than the honest. The tips you offer today are pearls and gold! As common sense, they are, sometimes, not so common. The teacher part of your persona benefits the rest of us mightily. Your accompanying imagery today kicks ass, Sir! (and love the light jazz audio). Thank-You, Mike P.S. -- Apropos of nothin' the tips I remember from earlier in my life both pertain to a state of being nekkid(!). When nekkid, never squat with your spurs on, and never, never, never fry bacon...

Never fry anything when nekkid :) Cheers Mike 👍
