Happy New Year Gary. Just now stumbled on this video… the first one of yours I have seen. What an informative and thoroughly delightful video, along with gorgeous photos. I am immediately subscribing, and I have got to see your tutorials on blending horizons! I have never seen that technique before! Hope you feel better soon. Cheers! P.S. - love the new Stealth Van. That cracked me up 🤣🤣🤣

Great video as usual mate. Don't know about the colour of the van, they will be able to see you from space. I keep saying and haven't done it yet, try this style of photography. Great image's as usual. I liked the Colour and B & W image's. Hope Lee is feeling better after the fall. Catch you on the next one.

I hope Lee is ok and you are feeling better😊Loved the video and I still think it’s fine art when turned into B&W.

Speaking as someone who has a Renault Trafic camper van in the same colour, Gary - very good choice, Sir! You can't lose it in a car park 🙂love your videos and thanks for doing what you do

I’ve tried blending skies. I just can’t get it as good as you. I don’t know why. More practice is needed I think! Like you said some nice images and I’m really surprised you got what you did out of that last image great shot hope you get better soon. Good luck with that very sharp looking Van keep safe.

G'day Gaz. 19:20 19:24 Years ago, I had a bike in the same color, I put red flames on each side, and I didn't think it went faster. it just looked better. Always great video thoroughly enjoy your blogs. Thankfully, our wives don't realise how bad man flu can be.

Absolutely love the new van Gary. I have a very similar metallic coloured Transporter and, from all the very nice cars I have in my history, it’s by far the one which brings me the most compliments. People continually approach me, especially when I’m filling up, they just have to comment, and I see people look and point all the time. Vans are the in thing in a big way 😂😂

Wonderful images, Gary! You now need to acquire a lime green jacket to match the van! The orange clashes a little!😂 But seriously, that was one great image of those groins. Worth all the effort.

08:57 - what was the reasoning behind the post poking above the horizon being a bad composition ?
@capturesintime7080Ай бұрын
Gary loved this... how do you blend the horizon in post...? I guess you prob have said in a previous video... if you could let me know what one id be keen to learn... im not that great at PP and use affinity... but generally if photoshop does it affinity can too... id just need to work out how... but knowing how you do it in adobe is a good start!

I did indeed. In this instance, I only used it to reduce the light. They consume around one and half stops of light.

I love your work Gary, but I can't help thinking that always calling black and white, long exposure images fine art is a bit lazy. For me, fine art images can be created in any condition (boring skies, epic skies, no sky) and with a wide variety of techniques. Surely the distinction comes from the purpose or intent of the photography, and with that in mind, many, if not most of your non-black and white long exposure images could also be considered fine art. Pigeon-holing fine art photography as black and white , long exposure images does a disservice to not only your viewers (who may develop the wrong idea of what fine art photography is) but also your own work.
@GaryGoughАй бұрын
I never claimed that fine art must be in black and white. I simply explained that, in the situation I faced, where the sky had no clouds or detail, it was challenging to blend the horizon effectively. In this case, converting the image to black and white helped to mask the lack of detail in the sky. I’m always open to differing opinions, though!👍
@magkjeldАй бұрын
Agreed. BW, minimalistic and long exposure can be art but not always, and it´s certainly not a condition for «fine» as in «better» art. I think «fine art» is a former way of categorizing these kinds of images, but it´s very misleading, since you can´t really call any form of art or photography finer/better than other artforms. ALways had issues with that expression, but I got to say I really like Garys photos and videos :)
@grahamjgreenАй бұрын
@GaryGough I think you've missed the point I was trying to make (my fault, not yours). This isn't just about this video, go back and look at your back catalog, almost every one of your videos where you've taken long exposure, black and white images, you've referred to them as fine art, but I've never seen you call any of your other work that does not have those characteristics fine art. And to clarify, I'm genuinely not trying to have a go at you or be a troll, I love your work and the vast knowledge you share with your audience every week. I just feel like you're a) selling yourself a bit short b) giving some of your audience the wrong impression about what fine art is, and can be.
