My friend and fellow photographer, Gary Beaumont, joined me as we explored the rugged coastlines, searching for the best spots to photograph the wild waves.

Beautiful shots again Gary 👍 My local camera club judges would have dissed your initial wave images, saying a further point of interest would have completed the shot. Unfortunately as you know, we can’t just conjure up a surfer when we need one!🙄 Mind you, I am sure you wouldn’t have minded some surfers or wind surfers etc. Been on Norfolk coast all weekend but my only shots were band action as I was attending a rock and roll festival. 👍📸

Lovely shots Gary. I love going to the rocky area during a storm to get some big waves crashing over them. You can't help but stay there for hours because each wave is different, and I love the wild weather with the wind, but not too much wind.

Great video, Gary! I live about a 40 minute drive from the coast of Central California so will be using your info as I study our crashing waves. I see that you appear to be using the Canon 5D Mark IV. I have a 5D Mark III and wonder if it might be advantageous to trade for a Mark IV? I primarily perform landscape and macro flower photography, but occasionally car shows and shots of airplanes flying by and overhead. Thanks for your seaside video!

I'm using a Nikon Z8. I also have a 5D MKIV though. It's a great camera, but not a massive leap from the MKIII

Loved it, so exciting. A few weeks ago I went to Crosby when storm Ashley was giving us a battering up here in the NW. Took some half decent shots of the waves, nothing like these monsters here but I got a right drenching in the process. Good job the good old D810 was weather sealed, more than I could say for myself. A couple of gems there Mr Gough.

Gary, Which wide angle lens?

In order to get the dramatic shot you often need lively weather conditions. I find the wind buffets the camera on the tripod in those conditions therefore losing sharpness of image. Is my tripod just not good enough of is there a trick that I am not aware of?

Long exposures in windy conditions require a very sturdy tripod. Even then, you can struggle.

Sorry, but imo your enthusiasm surpassed the majority of your images! Too much piece to camera, not enough images. Sometimes 5 seconds works well. You have done better videos.
