Ive tried golden cane palm in NorCal many times…. Dead…..This said dypsis baronii which looks very similar does does fine in my yard for past 20 years

I planted some under some evergreen Oaks in Steve Young's garden in Palo Alto. They're doing really well. They are open to the afternoon low angle sun, but have total canopy above them

I think they do well. I have some that look really well except for some of the older fronds looked a little shredded and burned after a super windy storm last year plus maybe being right on the beach with the salty air but in general they look good.
