Great video Garry!..❤ And this tree is a favourite of mine, though I haven't got one as in the UK it's very difficult to even get seed. 🇬🇧🇺🇲👍.. 🙏. For all affected by the wild fires in California!..

Was looking at the Wikipedia trees pics and they look straight up to the moon type of trees, sort of like the trunk on a Tulip Poplar if you have seen them around. Pretty nice looking smooth bark.

Highly recommend the best selling book and tv series, Barkskins, by Annie Proulx. The historical fiction book details logging of the unique Kauri forests in New Zealand. It’s a very special and sacred tree. Gary, it’s wonderful that you are preserving these trees. Some of them are under threat from fungal disease in their native land.

OK, another item on my bucket list. I literally wrote it down so hopefully I will order that book and check it off the list. I'm sure I'll love that book. Thanks for the recommendation. And yes, always trying to promote diversity in the landscape.

Hi Gary. I live in New Zealand and kauris are native here. There is a native forest next to my house that includes a whole hillside covered in kauris. They are such a cool tree.

There are two species, Agathis robusta is from Australia. Agathis australis is from NZ (confusing)

me too. Going back tomorrow with another load. I'm so sad about the whole thing. Trying not to think about it. I really don't want to drive through the fire zone as I may get super depressed upon seeing all of my favorite places, plants, trees, architecture, and landscapes gone.

I hear the fires are still burning, hopefully you guys made it safely and that your nursery was unaffected Also, do you have any information on the Bolivian mountain coconut and are they hardy to zone 8b (I’m in Mississippi)
@ScaryHairyGary10 күн бұрын
Those Bolivian coconuts are probably hardy to 20°. I’m not sure how they would handle the humidity out there though. I do know that the Chilean Wine Palm does not like the humidity.

My search says these trees are highly flammable and used as fire starters. So why are you planting them in Beverly Hills as neighboring Pacific Palisades is ablaze?
@ScaryHairyGary15 күн бұрын
Everything is flammable that is vegetative. A Saguaro cactus full of water will eventually burn if given enough heat and time. Under your argument, we would bulldoze all plants in Beverly Hills and install rock and sculpture gardens in their place. The plants I'm installing on this landscape are a drop in the bucket compared to everything around them.
