Just in case anyone was wondering, the optimal rate is 4 parts oil to 1 part soap. This will help to avoid phytotoxicity because it won’t be so viscous on plant leaves. It also helps if you mix it prior to adding it to your sprayer, it will turn into a milky white liquid, this will help it to spray easily once you add it to your sprayer. When adding your newly made concentrate it is best to use 1 tablespoon (15 mls) per litre as a summer spray.

@StaceyHerewegrowagain6 жыл бұрын
@@curtflirt2 hi there! Great question.. I use 2 tbs of organic Neem Oil per gallon of water (preferably rain water) I add about 1/4 tsp of dawn dish soap (non scented) to incorporate and the oil and water together better. Remember to always test Spray on a piece of the foilage before using, if you have never used the product on a specific plant before. Always keep out of direct sunlight when applying neem oil or any foilage spray. That's It! 🤗 Hope that helps! I use it for everything here in florida and we get a lot of pests and diseases. Never spray directly on bees because it can harm them. I usually only spray at night when the sun goes down. Good luck and happy planting!

Gary, I've spent the past 2 months or so watching your videos. The information you provide is both deep in its information, yet presented in a way. that is easy to understand. I took up gardening on my own because of an interesting need (growing up, my Dad was great with our small family garden). My Wife and I visited the Caribbean island of Antigua (we got married there a few years later) and I was introduced to an amazing, locally produced hot sauce. Upon our return to New York, I promised myself I would some day make my own hot sauce. There was a problem though. The hot/super hot peppers used weren't readily available up here. Well I think the rest is history. Thank you so much for these videos. Vince. Peekskill, NY

Gary I'm really learning a lot from your DIY series! I'm kind of new to your channel and edible gardening, so your recipes are going to come in handy. I'm starting small, I only started a few seeds of things I would definitely eat, but from what I'm reading and watching, tomatoes and cucumbers might prove to be a challenge here in Texas with very hot & humid spring & summers. At least I'll have your recipes to help me just in case, much appreciated!! ;)

Small is the way to start. Sometimes you plant them around your high summer months. Good luck.

Interesting and the only difference I see between the White Oil and the Neem Oil is the water content.

Psychotic white butterfly! Haha that made my day. My dad used to give us a quarter for each one we caught out of the garden. Definitely more expensive than making your own neem oil. :)

My be real nice in Maryland with those 50 degree days and 40 degree nights. Just this morning I had to brush ice of my cabbage plants. At least I don't have to worry about pests yet because of the freezes.

Gotta hand it to you, ever sine I got this oil kit including neem oil nad peppermint from you, it has all but eliminated the damage being done by biting insects :-) That cheap junk fake neem oil I first bought from walmart didnt do anything to stop the bugs from eating and damaging my pepper plants, and ever since I started using the neem oil I got from you a month ago, the damage has stopped 99% and all my damaged plants healed nicely and are looking spectacular. Thanks again Gary :-)

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Ill have to buy alot more neem oil here in about a month because at the moment, just using this neem oil once a week on just the first 20 plants that have grown quite a bit outside has used up 1/3 of that container of neem oil, and I have about 120 more plants on the way to be repotted in just couple months and moved outdoors, and I'm gonna need lots more neem oil lol.

Great video new subscriber! Lots of good info , I didn’t know that neem would not harm beneficial insects and targets the leaf chewers. One thing I would advise is to spray early in the morning or after sunset to avoid phototoxicity . Thanks a lot

Thanks for the recipes. One question, does spraying your plants with oil cause them to fry in the sunshine?
@clopez3892 жыл бұрын
Definitely! if it’s in the middle of the day. Make sure you spray when the suns setting or early sunrise. If it rains after application make sure re-apply after
@simpinainteasyRHEC2 жыл бұрын
I think thats why hes mentioned to test on a few leaves and wait a few days to see the outcome. Im not being rude, just thought id clarify, maybe. I canspeaktothe frying in the sun, ive learned the hard way, sadly. I can't tell you how wonderful and kind this man is to share his experiences, a TREASURE TROVE of knowledge with us for for free. This is a true gem. Good luck!

Thank you very much for you very detail and informative instruction. Will the neem oil spray help with the apricot tree blight problem ?If so, how to apply them ?
@THERUSTEDGARDEN6 жыл бұрын
I don't use it on fruit trees. So I cant give you advice. If the blight is fungal oil sprays do help. I would make sure you test spay some leaves and wait 72 hours to look for damage anytime you try new sprays.

Excellent advice! I have personally sent plants to the next earth by adding too much oil, too much neem oil. Even though they say neem oil is so good and all, if you use too much it will kill plants and I personally have unfortunately learned this the hard way....:)
