My father was a radio operator/air gunner with 217 Sqdn. He joined up in 1938 and first flew in Ansons , then converted to Beauforts in 1940. “That is when the war became rather more serious”, as he took part in raids on German coastal installations along the French coast. I have recently received the Airfix kit of this aircraft and your video is a great help and very well presented.

White propeller tips before yellow. Genius! I've been at this since 1968, (on and off - more on now I've retired), and never thought of that one. Enjoyed the build and like your approach. This older modeller gets a little impatient with reviews that spend an eternity talking about the box and little time on the actual history of the subject. Subscribed 👍

Very attractive build. I appreciate your emphasizing the fitting of the individual parts, which is the heart of the kit, a bit more than than exterior painting, etc. Also, enjoyed the brief historical introduction. The gouge in the propeller at 1:38 is astounding. Looks like it was dressed by a mechanic and signed off as airworthy. I believe it would be out of limits in a present day setting. Thanks.

Nice build my friend. Couple thoughts. 1. Using the pre cut masks- Apply a mixture of dish soap and water (mix it in a small cup) to the clear parts. If you have trouble getting the Mask in position, the soap and water allows you to "push" the mask into position. Blot dry and let it dry completly. Wheels (applies to any parts)- For the center Hub, paint them in the approiate color, place a piece of painters tape over the Hub. With a sharp blade, cut around the Hub (the difference between the Hub and Tire allows for a almost perfect mask) and then you can airbrush/Brush the wheel.

Anyone know what the purpose of the blister turret was for? I’ve seen it on quite a few twin engined bombers from the late 30s to early 40s?

Taking on attackers who are coming from below and behind, one suspects, in planes where a tail or belly turret is not possible. Some Lancasters tried it too, just behind the bomb bay.

@@garys_stuff As a big admirer of your work and interesting videos, I wondered if this might be okay to ask a question here? I love aircraft interiors and it does grieve me to seal them away when building. You don't see a lot of mention out there of people leaving panels or roofs off? I'm tempted to go further and actually cut panels permanently out and leave them displayed like that. Could you mash up a couple of old kits and show me how that might best be done? Just perhaps, 1/72 or 1/48.

Well, who knows? We'll find out on the 10th what Airfix has in store. Certainly there is a Victor coming, and the new Vulcan and Beaufort kits have bits for other versions.
