Not overly a important fact, but I caught this channel a while back and really enjoyed the chap's tone of voice and his detailed model making posts to the point it remined me how enjoyable model making had been for me many years ago. Being over 30yrs since I made a model and it got me thinking 🤔!! Why not buy a few models and rekindle some youthful nostalgic passion 😇. So I Joined the Airfix club & have spent months building my model collection & convincing my wife the airbrush's & compressor ( I have never used one in my life ) is not only a essential modelling tools but also can be used to repaint the house 🤥saving us a fortune. The point being, without this channel I would not have had so much fun buying this collection as I dance the figures & hide the cost from my wife & I would also have never have known how much my grandson's enjoyed model making ( i.e I gave them some easy 1/72scale planes I didn't want to build & paint😁). A Big THANK YOU ! & I hope this channel goes from strength to strength !

Brilliant that you've rediscovered the joy of this hobby, and even better that you've got your grandson hooked as well! Happy to be a small part of it. All the best, Gary.

@@garys_stuff 100% Ty Gary. Weird how things have a ripple effect in life, but I just found it amusing that after watching a few of your posts it expanded to where I am today. It is actually all 3 grandson's now doing models😁. Kind regards, Steve

I only got back into this at the expense of my grandchildren. There was a free Airfix Spitfire given away with a newspaper about five or six years ago. My wife said the granddaughters could make it. I said they wouldn't want to but I would do the noble thing and build it on their behalf. Few years down the line and here I am! BTW, the girls forgave me years ago!!

A little tip I learned about for using the tubes of glue is to tear off two pieces of the box the kit came in, leave one piece flat to use as a pallet to squeeze some glue onto, and roll the other piece up so it’s fairly slim and dip the end into the glue and use it as an applicator, it allows you to control how much glue you apply.

Very good tip! I’ve been using an unbent paper clip as an applicator.

Nice and easy to build model without any fancy tools nor masking. The tips on how to paint with brush are really good.

Great build, I’m a beginner so all the help is fabulous and ideas. I’m 61 last time I done a model was when I was around 8 it was a King Kong model, I then had the Wolfman and Dracula models with optional glow in the dark heads and hands lol Memories are fab

Good video, this is my first aircraft build after a long layoff since 1980! The kit is great and so are 3 out of the 4 paints, the black is like tar and not even Humbrol Acrylic Thinners has revitalised it, checked the black in the Firefly Starter Set too, exactly the same... Good excuse to go and buy some real paint.

Glad you like the kit, if not the paint. I'm told that all new starter sets will have the new Humbrol Gen2 paints in them, we'll just see how well they last in warehouses!

Very nice build, I wish Airfix would include stands with all their kits.

I think you did a good job with that kit - i've got one of these but not yet started it

Thanks, means a lot coming from someone like you! Cheers, Gary

I built one of these up recently. The one thing it really benefits from a is a good decal softening solution to get the main wing roundels to snug down over the bumps. Other than that I was really impressed by the paints included and even the canopy snap fits so you avoid potential fogging from the glue.

I wish I got this kit earlier, my first kit was the triumph herald which was much more difficult
@garys_stuff3 жыл бұрын
The Herald is an old kit, the moulds were made in 1967! The starter set Spitfire is very new and has the benefit of modern design and production. The clip-on canopy is bit of genius, I think. The new RedArrows Hawk starter set has the same thing.

@An Ordinary Bloke Doing Stuff my Herald wasn’t too bad had a bit of flash but enjoyed making it

I'm building this at the moment and your video has proved invaluable. How do you make your acrylic washes for a pin wash?
@garys_stuff2 жыл бұрын
For this one I just diluted the black that came with the kit. Normally I use either some Revell black weathering powder mixed in a bit of water or some Vallejo black wash, again slightly diluted.

It builds to a pleasing model doesn’t it, when you first opened the box I did think they have made it already for the customer! Turns out that was the table stand 😂

hello just bought this kit, but what should i do with the brush when swapping colors, should i just wash it in water or do i need some special brush cleaner?
@garys_stuff3 жыл бұрын
The paints are acrylic so you can wash them in water. You can also dilute the paint with water if you need to.
