I wonder if Airfix would consider making this elegant looking aircraft in 1/48 scale.?.I would totally get one in 1/48 and would suit the modern Airfix.Great video Gary and all the best.!👍

Gary , try the Tamiya etch saw blade's for the small parts. I built a mirage hobby flower class Corvette and every reviewer said they had trouble getting the parts off the sprues. I only broke one part using the miniature saws.

Anyone have a crushed velvet jacket i could borrow? Feel like I should be sitting in a sixtys airport or Vegas strip lounge watching this groovy video. Interesting style of gates and connectors instead of full on trees. Moulds certainly cleaned up well. Think I'll add it to my seeit-grab it list. Good price for getting to those free shipping limits etc. Looks like a fun quick build. ☕🐢

Such a beautiful aircraft, this is my next to do (it might change!) and I hope to really go to town on it up detailing it. We’ll see though! 😁 Looking forward to all your videos on the Beagle. All the best, Ian

Gosh, you've hit the nostalgia quotient squarely with this one, Gary. I think it was one of the first Series 2 kits I ever made. The subject had two engines and came in a box. Really thought I was going up in the world.😂 The hexagonal cross-section parts runners are pure Airfix of old and I think the use of exploded assembly diagrams is perhaps intentional, leading builders of a certain vintage into recalling more halcyon times? Very pleased to see they've updated the transparencies as well as the decals. Looking forward to the history and build. :)
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
Yes, they have kept the original diagrams in part but have re-set the type in the numbers and of course the rest of the sheet to give it the modern Airfix look. But they have made some mistakes as I'll mention in the build video (just decalling her right now...)

Hi Gary. I finally built this Beagle. Lovely looking plane, but I did find the build quiet hard, maybe these old classics should be skill level 2. Just wondering , when you paint your models do you, or do you recommend priming the entire body first in humbrol No1 grey primer before painting, or just apply the main colour straight to the plastic? Thanks .
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
With acrylics (water based) paints I always prime the plastic first. Generally with grey primer but sometimes with white.

The grey plastic's moulds get a clean up before they start casting them. As Gary mentioned in the video, they made new moulds for the clear parts because they were damaged/lost over the years.

Why not just appreciate the kit as a 1968 model kit, and build out of the box. If you want a kit with ribbons and bows, look for a new tooling.
@guaporeturns9472 Жыл бұрын
Why not just stop watching kit reviews if you don’t want to hear a kit review?
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
Well, for a start, Airfix have done the right thing with the Vintage Classics branding to manage expectations, but people might still get this and think they are getting a kit that is better than those they may remember from their youth. Or they may never have built a kit of this age and I just point out to them what they can expect. I have built it pretty much out of the box - as you'll see in the build video later this week. But I won't apologise for pointing out potential pitfalls so others might avoid them (like parts being difficult to remove from the frame). BTW, Airfix clearly think the occasional ribbon and bow is needed because they research, design and have printed new decal sheets which, for some kits, cost more than the rest put together (plastic, new instructions and new box). And there isn't a new tooling of the Basset from anyone.
@roncrowder4320 Жыл бұрын
It's called a classic for a reason. If you don't like kits with raised panel lines of rivets, don't buy it. I just font see the point in buying this kit, standing the lines flat and re scribing it.
@FinsburyPhil Жыл бұрын
@@roncrowder4320 Perhaps just for the enjoyment of it Ron or the sense of achievement? I think we all understand what we're going to get with a Classic kit - I don't think it's a case of not liking it.
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
Added to which, there isn't another Beagle 206 kit available! So if you like to do rivets and panel lines recessed, you can sand them off and rescribe them if you want to. If you don't care about that and just want a kit of a Basset (with snazzy new decals) then that's fine too. The biggest problem with this kit isn't the plastic, it's the instruction leaflet...
