Gary discusses his favorite fruits growing up: plums, as well as cherries, apricots, and hybrids between these (Pluot, Pluerry, Aprium). These are some of our favorite fruits, as long as we get the right amount of chill in the winter (as mentioned in the video). We go over some of the varieties that seem to do the best in our area, and still maintain excellence in terms of taste.

I planted Candy Heart and Sweet Treat April 2023. CH blooms first and ST began blooming about 2 weeks later sparcely. However, I have Flavor King pluot which bloomed at the same time as CH. They polinated each other. CH keeps blooming and blooming by then SW gets going but if I didn't have FK, I would have lost a lot of fruit. On a side note, Flavor Punch Pluerry is a late bloomer. May 1st and it's in full bloom. The only other tree capable of pollinating still making new blooms is Flavor King pluot. I have pretty much all the pluot varieties in my yard. Just thought I would share that.

I'm in 7b. I had a generic apricot in 8 before I moved. That tree bloomed well and fruited bit green fruits always dropped. I want to try again an with a Blenheim. Any suggestions?

In this video, you have mentioned some predictions about the weather getting cooler. You've said that if you don't get cold by 2022, the predictions were wrong. Well, it's 2022 now. How was the winter this year? Any truth to those predictions?
@GarysBestGardening

It was the coldest winter since 2008...however because of the Tonga volcano the coolness over the next few years can be explained for a different reason. We'll have to wait until 2025 now.

@@GarysBestGardening I haven't previously heard of that, so I did a quick search, and I've found that the current predictions are that it will have a cooling effect of only 0.014 F in the northern hemisphere. So it doesn't seem like it will have an significant impact on the air temperature.

if a nectarine is a bald peach maybe a plum is a bald apricot lol

Except an apricot is nothing like a plumb where as nectarines are similar to peaches just not as good.

Will the poison from amdro be absorbed by the fruit trees and then kill me???
@GarysBestGardening
@GarysBestGardening 5 жыл бұрын
You do not have to worry about that for a variety of reasons. First off, amdro has a very small half life- approximately 1 hour in water. This means that after 1 hour, the Hydramethlnon (which is the active ingredient) concentration will be reduced by half. This means after about 5-6 hours, virtually all of it will be gone. Since the amdro has to be dissolved in water for it to be absorbed into the plant, you do not have to worry about getting poisoned from the absorption. Also, there would need to be a vary large amount of amdro consumed in order to do some damage, probably around 4-5 pounds of the product at one time, which is impossible.
