I got emotional when you were talking about failure and how you are your biggest critic even in a room full of people 🙏Thanks Gary ❤️ for always guiding me, watching your videos, listening to your podcasts during commute, I feel like you're talking to me and giving me advice and it has always steered me in the right direction (at least I feel like it is the right path) I've managed to REDUCE giving others the right to make decisions for me whether it is for university/work, to set aside my passion and live the exact life my parents did - school, college, university, good job and hate the rest of your life because I don't see me adding value to anyones life in that way at all ! So, thank you again for making me realise that sometimes it's better to try and fall/fail and try again or tweak the way you're going at it and just keep moving forward than to have never tried at all You're a beautiful soul Gary an angel put here on earth for sure !

at 16:10: "I am extroverted and high energy, so I am so worried about people thinking that that is important". This is perhaps a reply to what I wrote Gary on the nov 17th ("What does happiness look like" video), pointing out how Gary has very great innate advantages -- including extroversion and tremendous physical vitality -- over most other people, and it was those things PLUS HIS VERY HARD WORK that resulted in his great success. The problem comes when we focus only on the hard work, and ignore all the other essential ingredients. No one denies that hard work is important; LOTS of people deny the other essential ingredients. Gary, continued: "There are so many people who are incredible communicators who are massively reserved, they just found their authentic way to communicate". No, Gary, not many. But a few, yes. Like Eckhart Tolle, for example. THERE ARE A FEW. That is true. But focusing on those few, while ignoring the HUGE advantage, in this culture, of extroversion, is really not honest. Sorry to be so blunt, but that's the truth that I see. This general phenomenon occurs over and over in many sectors; that is, of placing sole focus on the (often very very few) successful persons, and ignoring all the failures. For one good example: no one ever mentions the very well-documented fact that 95% of people who attempt to lose weight (or rather maintain lost weight) FAIL. This is in spite of repeated attempts to sustain weight loss, and gigantic social and economic pressures to be thin (i.e. people have very powerful incentives to be successful). The very few -- indeed rare -- instances of success are endlessly trotted-out, with the implication always that "if THEY can do it, YOU can do it!". And that sounds very logical, doesn't it? You SHOULD be able to do it, right? But the truth is -- and again this is very well-documented, an indisputable fact -- that you, i.e. the average person (as opposed to the OCCASIONAL, EXCEPTIONAL person) -- CAN'T do it. Hence those rare instances of success that are bandied about amount to success porn: titillating, fascinating, but unreal for all but rare individuals. Everything in us WANTS to believe that we can do it, that we (as per our national quasi-religion of willed individual success) have unlimited potential, if only we [ believe | work hard | stay positive | etc., etc. ] , then we will succeed. The facts, however, derived from experience across the whole population over time, don't correspond to this. Gary, just in case you are reading this, I would like to give you an example of what I mean. Here is a personal story that illustrates some of what I am talking about regarding innate strengths and weaknesses, and how they impact the likelihood of success: www.socialanxietysupport.com/forum/f30/ssri-snri-mirtazapine-remeron-combination-too-optimistic-experiences-please-72807/ --- "I believe I've had some form of mental peculiarity since birth, which started out as heavy introversion, lack of social drive, no assertiveness and a general inability to 'thrive' and engage with / enjoy life as much as others. To this day I feel I lack some crucial 'spark' that drove everyone else forward, and with the increased social pressures of my teenage years came social anxiety, anhedonia, depression, and a lot more. Before those 'pressures' I was somewhat different, but still capable of happiness if I followed a certain lifestyle. I think that door is now closed and only a combination of meds, therapy and a lot of time will begin to re-open it." END QUOTE Dig it. "Heavy introversion, lack of social drive, no assertiveness.... social anxiety, anhedonia, depression, and a lot more". That's just one person, of course, but there are scores of millions of others out there with similar stories, more or less (some better, some worse; all with different particulars). It does not matter much how hard these people work, or whether or not they maintain a positive attitude. You'll note that I just said it does not matter MUCH; I did not say it does not matter AT ALL. Of course it matters. Just not much. Will the guy in the above testimonial benefit from hard work and positive thinking? YES. But not much. Certainly nothing even remotely like Gary V. That guy will be lucky, even with a huge effort of will over many years, to get off psychiatric disability (SSI) and hold down a normal job, let alone become a successful entrepreneur or youtuber or whatever. Again I stress that such stories are not at all uncommon. In fact most people have complexes of issues of like kind -- not as severe, but internally compromising nonetheless. For example, the lifetime prevalence of major depressive disorder in the U.S. is over 20%! And as anyone who has suffered from depression knows, it is all but impossible to be successful -- or even just barely function at all -- when you're depressed. That's JUST DEPRESSION. What about "heavy introversion, lack of social drive, no assertiveness, social anxiety, and anhedonia" as per the case described above? What about being on the autistic spectrum, or with Asperger's? What about PTSD and childhood trauma? What about chronic fatigue and partially-disabling physical health problems (often multiple)? What about low I.Q.? What about a whole bunch of other things? It is not going too far to say that a large majority of the population is compromised, internally, either innately (i.e. at birth, or by way of genetics) and/or as a result of traumatic early experiences and/or toxic exposures and/or dietary problems and/or a handful of other difficult-to-ponder influences. Any ONE of the things I mentioned -- depression, Asperger's, PTSD, social phobia, etc. -- is enough to abolish, or severely limit, any serious possibility of becoming successful as a self-starting entrepreneur. And combinations of them (and most people have some combination of them in some degree): well, hey, forget it! Sorry, but just forget it. You're too damaged. Only RARE individuals are Gary V-types with this incredible combination of advantages: -- good or superior intelligence -- superior mental health (no mood disorder, no serious personality disorder, etc.) -- superior physical health; fabulous physical vitality -- pronounced extroversion -- hyperthymia (innately super-positive outlook, the opposite of depression) -- great inner grit and resilience (impossible to quantify, but existing nevertheless) Every single one of those things is a HUGE advantage; the combination must be amazing beyond belief. IS amazing beyond belief. Super-human! Superman! Yes, hard work, too. But please let's be honest about the rest of the picture, and please let's stop pretending that everyone can be superman.

Gary, I don’t know if you will ever read this but if you are please can you give me some advice. I’m doing A Levels in the UK (the last stage of higher education before you decide what college/uni you want to go to) and I’m constantly SCARED that I’ve closed doors on myself or that I will end up in a career that I don’t love and am not passionate about. I’ve picked subjects that are practical and not necessarily ones that I love and it’s too late to change that now. It’s been eating away at me because I have absolutely NO bloody idea what I am meant to do in my life. I’m worried about being unfulfilled in life and feel as though I have 0 direction. I’m meant to know by the end of the year because that’s when I have to decide what I want to do at college/university. I’m constantly comparing myself to other people and how they all seem to have it figured out, even my friends know exactly what they want to do. There is just an immense pressure from society as a whole and I feel as though everyone’s telling me different things and because I’m an indecisive person it’s hard to figure out what I truly want for myself. I know that you constantly say that no one has to have their life figured out until they’re around 40 but I want to go to university so I need to figure it out quick. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Today I had a really big realization. I was talking to this guy that got a background on marketing, but became CEO of a 3 locations store that sells phones and plans and we were talking about his marketing strategy. Basically he was talking about investing in radio and some stuff like that. In the end I believe I convinced him to go all in on Google Ads, but the point that stuck with me was how far ahead I was compared to a normal person. I mean, that guy had a background in marketing, graduated marketing, worked as marketing manager and still had this philosophy. Now I understand why Gary keeps pushing on it. Most people ain’t following it. There is some real opportunity in here!!

This is it, no one wants to put the work in or sacrifice leisure for the future. Im working on starting my own business and been trying to build my social media networks and KZbin but Entrepreneurship is HARD, you got to put in hours of work and you have to be smart with work and an expert in your field. That also takes years of work and I'm working on it every day. In my opinion if you aren't willing to put in the work then YOU don't want it.
